Review of Missing

Missing (2012)
6/10
Such promise, but so disappointing...
16 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Missing starts off great, an emotional and somewhat realistic depiction of a former CIA operative trying to locate her missing son, through some cunning and non-to-high tech stuff, an excellent first fight scene showing the former operative has some fighting chops, but no dumb ass kung fu moves... until she escapes 3 bad guys on a Vespa doing a wheelie and taking down two bad guys on motor bikes in the process, the scene gave me goosebumps it was so lame... and by the way she was of course wearing high heel cork shoes the entire time! Then we go downhill even more... we are introduced to her Italian former contact, whom she obviously slept with, and this guy is extremely uninteresting and boring. We are also introduced to the CIA field office chief in Paris who is trying to track her down, and this guy is a walking, talking, breathing blob of the worst spy clichés there ever were... and on top of that extremely annoying.

On the up side Ashley Judd delivers on the acting here as Rebecca Winstone, making it easy to root for her and sympathise with her struggle, she's even somewhat believable in the fight scenes, not something I thought Judd would pull off but she does. The show is green screen heavy but aside from that has some good actual locations, obviously not shot in downtown LA like everything these days...

I hope it gets to live long enough to show some improvement, but I don't think it will, this is going in the cancellation toilet after half a season max...
