Supergirl: Exodus (2017)
Season 2, Episode 15

Good episode, but a few wrong (arguably) ideas were conveyed

Warning: Spoilers
Overall, "Exodus" was kind of good in terms of the action and the character development, though I disagree with some of the ideas conveyed in this episode.

Firstly, regarding the way J'onn tried to determine whether Alex was biased or not, I think it was a smart (and totally unexpected!) move on his part and he was totally justified in determining whether or not Alex would act in the best interests of the DEO. He needn't have apologized to Alex in the end. While Alex's heart may have been in the right place, she should have put the interests of the DEO above her own views about her father's innocence. And all J'onn did was put her off this one case so she doesn't sabotage the operation. But the writers made a big deal out of it, like J'onn was in the wrong and I think in doing so, they ended up conveying the message that every person should just make decisions based purely on emotion, rather than reason. I strongly feel that this is a really, really wrong idea. Hitler thought he was right in doing what he did. And so do terrorist organizations across the world today.

Secondly, I disagree with Kara's decision to, put it mildly, very irresponsibly blog the article online just because Snapper wouldn't publish the article because he needed verifiable sources. This again, is a decision based purely on emotion, though I think, in this case and this case only, she was justified in doing what she did because she ended up saving lives and warning the other aliens. But in general, reporters, especially, should be very careful about what they post online. As Snapper put it, "You weren't right, you were lucky. And next time you might not be. One wrong statistic about the stock market and suddenly we're in the Great Depression. One misattributed quote from a candidate and you put a fascist in the White House. The rules are there for a reason. To make sure you get the story right. That's not luck. That's being a good reporter."

Thirdly, I don't get why DEO, with Winn's technical genius, was unable to predict the next alien victim and thus nab the culprits, but Alex and Maggie were somehow able to instantly and accurately get the location of the next attack! And once Alex found out about the warehouse, she should have just informed the DEO, and then maybe Supergirl, J'onn, Guardian and Mon-el would have been able to rescue Jeremiah in addition to saving the aliens, instead of Alex making a botch of the whole affair and Supergirl just managing to stop the space shuttle last minute.

Lastly, though, I would like to add that Winn and Lyra make a really cute couple and their chemistry really is a joy to watch! :)

+ Good Action throughout

+ Winn and Lyra's relationship

  • Blaming J'onn for his "deceit"

  • Kara's irresponsible blogging

  • No explanation as to how DEO was unable to track the next alien victim but Alex and Maggie were.

  • Alex going to save the aliens on her own
