Matango (1963) is a Toho classic I recently watched on a random streaming site. The storyline follows a group of friends on a boat ride that crashes on an island. As they investigate the island some of the voyagers turn into mushrooms. As mushroom people start attacking the remaining voyagers they do their best to survive.

This movie is directed by Ishirô Honda (Godzilla, 1954) and stars Akira Kubo (Sanjuro), Kumi Mizuno (Ebirah), Hiroshi Koizumi (Ghidorah), Kenji Sahara (Godzilla, 1954) and Yoshio Tsuchiya (Seven Samurai).

The set in this are so awesome and creative. There is such a great sense of mystery throughout this film from beginning to end. Every scene with mushrooms are excellent and the hellucinations and transformation scenes are very well done. The mushroom people ending is excellent, my only complaint would be they could have shown the mushroom people more throughout the film.

Overall this is an entertaining Honda picture that isn't his best film but is very entertaining. I would score this movie a 7/10 and strongly recommend it.
