5/10
An uneven addition to the comedy
22 August 2023
Johnson Family Vacation (2004) is a movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a family on a road trip to visit the father's side of the family. The father has a competitive brother and together they can't stay out of each others way. If the family can make it to their destination that may only be the beginning of their problems.

This movie is directed by Christopher Erskin (Back to School Mom) and stars Cedric the Entertainer (The Barbershop), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), Steve Harvey (Think Like a Man), Shad Moss (Like Mike), Vanessa Williams (Eraser) and Solange (Bring it On: All or Nothing).

This is an uneven addition to the comedy genre with a fantastic cast, entertaining circumstances and fun one liners and dialogue. I will say Cedric the Entertainers "dad jokes" got old quick and don't hit like he did in the Barbershop movies. Jason Mamoa's and DeRay Davis' cameos were funny. The soundtrack was good too. This is one of those films where the setup is better than the finale. The ending was straightforward, cliche and kind of cheesy...pretty much everything was starting with the jail scene till the credits.

Overall, this is a very average addition to the comedy genre that I would score a 5/10 and recommend seeing once.
