There is no denying the impact that The Shining made when it was released. It's on almost every list of all-time greatest horror films and has been endlessly parodied and referenced in other works. However, I've never been a huge fan of it. I think this movie is well-made, and it definitely has iconic moments of terror & suspense, but some of the surrealist scares just don't work for me. And there were scenes that pulled me out of the story because of the way they were shot. It almost felt as if Stanley Kubrick were demanding people pay attention to him. I just think The Shining is a little... overrated.
