Elaine is all excited because she has chosen to do volunteer work, visiting an old person. Whatever their motivation, Jerry and George decide to get into the act. They have two old men, both of whom a in their faces. One is openly hostile to Jerry, furious that he is there. George is so offensive to his guy because he refuses to say the possibility of death depresses him. The guy has finally had enough. Elaine's elderly woman has a goiter the size of a football (which we never see, thank God). She is fascinating, but Elaine can't look at her. The other subplot involves Kramer and Newman deciding to make a fortune selling old records. The guy at the record store is great.

The Old Man starts off good, then hits rock bottom by the second act but redeems itself in the third.
The second act consists of Jerry, George and Elaine getting to know their respective old people and none of these stories rings funny, at least the first time they meet. Jerry's story with his old man gets better as it gets mixed with Kramer and Newman's story line and Elaine's story gets actually really funny.
On a side note I love that they made a real picture for the Gandhi detail, it just shows the effort they put on the show. Also, this must be one of the few episodes that shows not a single hint of continuity. I could be anywhere on the list.

A very different feel of an episode. A lot of shaningans going on here.
March 21st of year 2023rd...
What was going on in this episode?: the gang volunteer to talk to senior citizens
George is rude and uses oil
Jerry's old man is rude
Elaine's story was boring. All she does is sit.
Kramer and Newman aka the mailman sell records to Saw.
Story and The production overview: A clumsy good episode
Highlight: When I saw Saw.
Villian: Saw for ripping off Cosmo Kramer and Newman... Jerry's old man.
Laugh meter: 6
Girlfriend attractiveness level: George's oil friend was a 10.
What can be learned?: not all old people are wise.
Verdict: Saw killed this episode.

Guest starring Tobin Bell

Warning: Spoilers
I remember first seeing Tobin Bell as an FBI agent in the movie Mississippi Burning (with Gene Hackman, Willem Dafoe, Frances McDormand), and even though his role was a supporting one, I could sense back then (not that I'm an experienced movie critic) that he could be moving on to bigger and better things. Following Bell's role in Mississippi Burning, he scored a memorable supporting role of Ron in The Old Man, from the fourth season of Seinfeld, which some consider to be the peak of Seinfeld, and of course over a decade later his career exploded as Jigsaw in Saw. I'm enjoying reflecting on Seinfeld after having first watched it back in the early 1990s.
