This is the nineteenth episode of the third season of the Simpsons and I think it's a very good episode with a central theme of showing affection towards the pet and vice-versa. It goes on to say how you should appreciate animals in your life, no matter the cost. But this can be emotional episode, but of course being a Simpsons episode, it is not devoid of jokes. I'm just happy they were able to make another episode based around Santa's Little Helper.
In this episode, "Dog of Death," the Simpsons were unable to win the lottery despite being lottery season. That comes to hurt when they found out that their dog must need surgery to save it's life. Because of the surgery, the Simpsons are forced to forgo luxuries and that makes them bitter. Feeling hurt, Santa's Little Helper runs away and he is found by Mr. Burns where he's forced to become a guard dog.
Overall, this is a great episode but it's pretty darn sad. But there is a happy ending, so that makes me happy. I loved the cultural references, mainly the Clockwork Orange reference where Burns is forcing the dog to watch movies during his training. I rate this episode 9/10.
