Great, But Rather Sad Episode!

Warning: Spoilers
This is the nineteenth episode of the third season of the Simpsons and I think it's a very good episode with a central theme of showing affection towards the pet and vice-versa. It goes on to say how you should appreciate animals in your life, no matter the cost. But this can be emotional episode, but of course being a Simpsons episode, it is not devoid of jokes. I'm just happy they were able to make another episode based around Santa's Little Helper.

In this episode, "Dog of Death," the Simpsons were unable to win the lottery despite being lottery season. That comes to hurt when they found out that their dog must need surgery to save it's life. Because of the surgery, the Simpsons are forced to forgo luxuries and that makes them bitter. Feeling hurt, Santa's Little Helper runs away and he is found by Mr. Burns where he's forced to become a guard dog.

Overall, this is a great episode but it's pretty darn sad. But there is a happy ending, so that makes me happy. I loved the cultural references, mainly the Clockwork Orange reference where Burns is forcing the dog to watch movies during his training. I rate this episode 9/10.

LBJ

Warning: Spoilers
The Simpsons has it's amazingly hilarious references to pop culture and politics, and the reference to LBJ and his treatment of dogs was absolutely hilarious without a doubt. Anyway, here Santa's Little Helper is lost and ends up in the evil clutches of Mr Burns, and the moment when Santa's Little Helper reunites with Bart was so moving and brings faith into the saying that a dog is man's best friend.

For me, in my humble opinion, it's the first 10 seasons of The Simpsons that's the golden era, although some episodes beyond that are worth watching for sure. Dog of Death is part of the golden era.

Dog of Death

Warning: Spoilers
A really good episode for sure, I thought it was quite funny how everything the Simpsons had to give up in order to save the dog would have been very helpful for them had they continued with their usual spending habits. I liked the reunion with Santa's Little Helper at the end that was good and how Mr Burns used him as an attack dog, definitely a classic era episode though not the best, nor the worst, it was really good.

Lots of Hilarity

First of all, the issue of the dog's possible death are heart rending. We know things will work out. But that issue is outshone be several really funny bits. First of all, the entire lottery thing, with the masses acting like wolves, throwing their money away. A portion of the winnings go to the schools. The result of that is great. Then there's Smithers, who pretends to be a girl scout and draw the attention of the new attack dog to replace the aging one Burns has. I also can't forget the sacrifices of the Simpson family to pay for the dog's operation.

Santa's little helper has a medical condition that requires the family to make sacrifices.

This is the quintessential family dog episode.

Santa's Little Helper goes through the ringer in this episode and, as always, the Simpsons are largely responsible, with Bart once more written as his only true friend.

It has an excellent mixture of comedy and emotion, with some hysterical punchlines and truly heartwarming moments. The 'Clockwork Orange' tribute is absolutely fantastic, plus everything that happens at the vet surgery is brilliant.
