30,000 views?! Jeez - # 1 short on MySpace
FilmInAmerica27 October 2006
I saw this short film on MySpace which is linked to here. I'm in entertainment so I'm always looking around. You run across all sorts of stuff - a lot of junk too - but not this one. The trivia story here is funny. That really happen??

Great little film. Excellent and tight script. Compelling story; heart-felt, funny, dark, sad and real. Very well acted and directed all around. I see why it's getting hit and such rave reviews on MySpace. The lead actors did a very good job. I believed them and they touched me. The bridge scene is very cool and funny and somehow different. It's a winner.

guide to staying alive

Warning: Spoilers
As I commented before, nothing keeps you from that brink of ending everything like going out of your way to help someone else. Who needs your life anyway? Someone out there does. With a hint of comedy, this film carried more than a message. It painted life and the gruesome reality of how some of us live on a daily basis...surviving.

This movie short flows well. From a depressing beginning, it moves to a diner, and the guy asks for white wine. In walks two thugs, and the script unfolds flagrant disregard for life. Why would a suicidal character care if a thug blows his brains out anyway?

But it gets better. When the 'not so hot' waitress makes a desperate attempt to lose her virginity, he actually goes for it. Why not?

And in closing, he actually basks in this girl's affections...realizing he's more to someone else than he's ever been.

Maybe it's the blatant self-hate pattern I was drawn to, or maybe it was just an act of kindness. Whatever it was, it was brilliant.

More bad than good

Warning: Spoilers
"The Suicide" is a 15-minute short film from 10 years ago and the writer, director and lead actor here is Jeff Markey. "Writer" is relative though as it is based on Charles Bukowski's short story. In this film here, I did not like the first and final part of the film. The action at the diner is fairly interesting to watch though. Sucks to see Markey is not really having a career anymore according to his body of work on IMDb as there are some decent moments in this little movie. Still all in all, it was not a convincing watch and the bad slightly outweighed the good, especially because of the sub-par ending. I am not sure who is to blame, Markey or Bukowski, as I have not read the original short story. Thumbs down from me for this little movie. Not recommended.
