A nice journey.

I enjoyed very much this journey through the Pays basque: beautiful landscapes and nice encounters.

There are some interesting aspects of this region: the espelette pepper, the typical Basque houses and the Basque pelota ( the farmers Panpi and Leire, the harvest and the braiding of the peppers, about 200 producers in 10 communes-the Appelation d'origine protégée-, the half timbered houses with their red shutters called "Etxe", the elder son or daughter is in charge of the family house, the playing of Basque pelota in the center of each village), the Camino de Santiago (Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, 60.000 pilgrims every year, the Association des amis du chemin de Saint-Jacques, Lionel, the volunteer and also pilgrim, Sébastien the traveling grocer who sells sheeep cheeese and other food to the pilgrims, Nathalie and the camping at the farm since 1979), the Basque Force ( the practice of sports like lifting weights or tug-of-war), the Vallée des Aldudes (about 1000 inhabitants in three villages, the newcomers, Jeovanna-the Peruvian woman-, Amandine-the Belgian woman-, Marie from the French Brittany, Jean-Yves who works in the "Séchoir de la Vallée des Aldudes", Maïka who manages the bar of Aldudes), the port of Ciboure and the bluefin tuna fishing (Didier, the captain of the fishing boat, the angling is allowed from July to October, Michel the cannery of Ciboure, the chef Nicolas and the Japanese cook Tomo preparing bluefin tuna-thon rouge in French-) and the Vallée de la Soule (the return of children to their home villages, Maya an Dimitri and the butchery of Muléon, Graxiana-the dairywoman),.

I enjoyed the encounters of Sophie with Flora Le Pape, Pierre Dospital, Clément Guillemot and Stéphane Michelena at Espelette, with Liza Bergara and Xabi Retgui at Larressore, with Claire Lohiague at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, with Xabi Behoteguy at the Rhune, with Jean-Michel Cabos at Guéthary, with the speleologist Jean-François Godart at the Grotto of the Verna and Alain Saldumbide, Maritxu Housset-Chapelet and Iban Salumbide at Itxassou; nice encounters with very kind Basque men and women.
