These reviewers take TV too seriously
MovieFanTHX113828 May 2023
Personally, I watch mostly because I like the witty banter, vis a vis the cultural (music and movies) references. "Sharp dressed men?" Funny. "Assquatch?" Hilarious! Why all the complaints about political stuff? It's a sign of the times. Racism is real and it SUCKS. Lesbian relationships? Poignant. Father/son relationships? Reality. Less of the "fish out of water" plot line? Refreshing. Series that feature characters that don't grow and evolve? Boring. Keep changing it up! As long as there are a few laugh out loud moments in each episode, I'm good. And, so far, I have laughed out loud at least a few times in every one.

Funny and uplifting
ossie8527 April 2023
This episode is a testament to the show's strong and confident move forward. The episode is another wonderfully written piece that masterfully tackles social issues without losing its sense of humor and heart. Honestly, I thought Season 3 was in a bit of trouble, but the last 2 episodes have been great.

Lots of humour in this episode, with Roy's red string being an absolute blast. Not just the physical comedy, but Roy's reaction to it. Whistle!

As always, the show drops its fair share of witty one-liners and laugh-out-loud moments while never losing sight of its underlying theme of unity and kindness. The episode's comedic moments are effortlessly woven into its serious message, sparking a balance that the show always manages to achieve.

Finally the Ted Lasso that captivated us in Season 1 and the best parts of Season 2. Episode of the season thus far. Like a great novelist, the writing team for Ted Lasso has created moments of hope, wit, love and despair; moments that create emotions which change from scene to scene without (and sometimes with) warning. This episode has the depth that's been prevalent and responsible for one of the largest hit series of the the 21st Century. I gush because I love this show and the characters but I think there is something very profound in what's been created by the Lasso team. Certainly these concepts aren't new but what creates great art in writing is delivering universal sentiments in fresh ways. If you find yourself poo-poo-ing the content because it's tired or uninspired, consider how we got here.

The Lasso Way
tul-carv26 April 2023
Another Ted Lasso classic right here.

Some clunky moments where pace felt a little bit off, which I guess is because the writers are still adjusting to longer episodes (this one was close to an hour long).

Whilst the last episode was one of the best ever for this show, this one was very close to it, being enjoyable, having football moments and some interesting stories and developments. I dare say this season had some slides and went a little off the original magic and awe of season 1, but the last two episodes (6 and this, 7) put the show right back on track.

I'm curious to what will happen to the team as they adjust to new tactics, but withbout spoiling anything, the team chemistry might be off the charts.

Don't fight back, fight forward.

Banger after banger ...
benb-4039428 April 2023
With a relatively slow and at times boring start to season 3, "The Strings That Bind Us" certainly follows on from the success of "Sunflowers" and gets the show back in its usual form. Seasons 1 and 2 of Ted Lasso gave us heart warming and gut wrenching scenes which captivated viewers and developed the characters within the show to allow it to thrive. However, season 3 has lacked in this and hasn't felt any sense of direction thus far. The previous 2 episodes stand as evidence as to what this show can be at its very best. With uncertainty over the future of the show as there has been no renewal for season 4, this could be a promising start to wrapping up a beautiful feel good tv series.

It's a good episode but come on do we really have to...
bosimmons-4478229 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Okay I liked the episode and I like Ted lasso a lot but really making the politician be trump? It's been 3 years and people are still like nah remember trump? Yeah we hate him. We get it. It's just been so overplayed sooo much. I don't want to hear it in every show or movie I watch now. Everything has some political meaning or politics somehow some way worked into it's story even if it's the furthest thing from the story. I get it you needed to have the guys restaurant destroyed and have the final scene take place making the team come together and the father see the name of the restaurant being his name but making the politician tweet what trump tweeted what 5-6 years ago plugged into the story is like we get it everyone hates the guy still even thou he's been gone since 2020. I just don't want this good show ruined with every political slogan letting people know hey we're on the side we've been on for years here and we're just ganna keep letting you know that. Look I like the show because Jason plays the role so well but honestly if he grew up in middle America his entire life he'd probably would've voted for the guy everyone hates. He's like vuldermort to them. Maybe they should just have politicians pay for movies because they're basically endorsing them.

A complete episode
shaahin_ghaderi26 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had everything... Amazing writing that covered politics, tactics and relationships in the best way.

Mass character development has been made First. Lasso changing tactics & listening to Jamie's thought for the first time (about time! He's a prick, but an experienced player).

Second. Relations such as Nathan finally asking his crush out, Keeley & Jack and bond between teammates and sam's lovely father.

Third. Who's going to ignore Roy Kent's laughing? That d**k practice was hilarious. He has changed a lot! Even he realized it.

Definitely one of the top episodes this season. Enjoyed it.

In or out?
palealien15 March 2024
It surprised me- or maybe not that the reviews for the previous episode- "Sunflowers" got almost unanimous 10/10 reviews, but this one was slagged by nearly everyone who took the time to share. I just enjoy the show for what it was, I didn't see this as a particularly weak episode, maybe just a lull in the story. There's always something to catch in the rewatch as I may have been laughing too much the first time.. the show does spitball most of the jokes and humor, lost in hushed toned and occasionally Ian over the top accent. So I did not have a hard time with it, I don't really rate all good or all bad, it's just Ted. I think it was all laid out as a three season show, so even if viewers didn't get it, it's still there.

I do not see why they keep focusing on political issues.
tylerchrestman17 July 2023
This show is great, but this season has been so annoyingly political. The subplots of Colin and the entire Jack debacle are completely unnecessary. Roy and Keely are just not going to be addressed in any of the mid episodes this season? It's crazy to take one of the best dynamics on the show and make it completely irrelevant.

This episode just does the pandering again with the Sam subplot. They want to paint any position that says illegal in migration is bad by making some caricature of a person be the bad guy. It is insulting and dumb. It is ridiculous and makes this entire thing not enjoyable anymore.

Well I Sort of Enjoyed it

Warning: Spoilers
10 mins on the Arsenal game, beautiful shots outside the Emirates and before the match and we won I mean how cool, then Richmond beat the Spuds. A bit of footy in a Football Program.

A Football program that tries to be very WOKE, very "on the ball" Put the worlds wrong's to right.

This is a football program based in England made by American's, now I love Americans. This started off as "promotional media for NBC Sports' coverage of England's Premier League" You see it's actually a Program based around a football team, but it's got above itself and decided to teach us Brits how to run our poor little country.

Problem is getting 60% right is really not good enough, So we have the boat people which the American's know so much about NOT Problem is in Real Life the Home Sec is not White, OOPS. The one who sits now and the one who sat from 2019 to 2022, but making her white for the Football Program makes the Brits look even worse. The Home Sec is Indian but of course for the program makers that would not have looked so good on TV

I understand the boat people problem, if you are going to bring Real Life into it, make it Real I mean West Ham Top of the League as you on F Drugs !!

Did the Hammers pay a % of the costs of this program to get this much attention? As for Nate YUCK YUCK YUCK Vile character and he is just allowed to walk into the Richmond dressing room, and do damage. And PS there is NO WAY the players would allow any sort of camera to be installed into the changing rooms.

I get his story, that's why you don't see him coach or anything he stands in a suit on the touchline and in his tracksuit the rest of the time.

Sometimes they get things right, but it's a Football Program, trying to pack to much into it. Stick to what the show does best.

Cut out the Politics.

Episode 307
bobcobb30126 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another episode of Ted Lasso that I think the internet will love, but that is frankly quite a bit overrated.

The show does give us some quality soccer scenes, so there's that, but everything off the field, or pitch, is underwhelming.

After kind of getting a break last week we were back to plenty of Keeley scenes and none of them were any entertaining.

If there was a team that could blow a 3-0 lead it is Arsenal this year, but thankfully they kept it somewhat realistic and just had AFC Richmond get one goal in a feel good moment. I am curious to see how they wrap up Season 3 and see how far the new Richmond gets. Champions League perhaps?

The most Contrived episode yet, all realism has gone
joewilson7028 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The previous episode was amazing, and by far the best of this season...... Then this episode dropped, and it's easily the most contrived episide yet.

  • The strings on penis thing would never happen, no human would put up with that in any sport or job.

  • The way they spoke about Total Football was completely wrong, none of them could be a goalie, except the goalie, real football fans must have been shaking their heads in horror.

  • are we meant to believe professional football players didn't know about Total Football and Cruyff? What next? Who's Maradona?

  • Nate's hostess who didnt like him till he became famous is been displayed as a love story. Really?

  • the whole Keeley/Jack relationship is turning creepy, I'm going to say it, the show was better when Keeley wasnt in it last week, her character is now pointless.

-The social media thing strayed a bit too close to their political opinion and no-one wants politics in a sitcom..... especially when it only gives half the facts.

This is the episode where Ted Lasso completely gave up with any form of realism and decided it's all a fantasy world, there's no realism anymore, it's all gone. I now think Richmond will win the league for it's the fantasy ending.

This season needs to get back to 40 minute episodes (the 60 minute episodes are full of flabby relationships with Keeley and Sam that we dont need, we want more Ted, Beard,Rebecca,Roy and Jaimie....

Sam's episode!
Shot00710 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There are two of field issues this episode aims to deal with. Keeley's gay relationship and Sam's political stance. One is a mistep and poor writing and the other is well done. Although the Keeley stuff is overplayed and comes from no where (there was no signs of her being this way in the first two seasons). When it comes to Sam, we had clear signs when it comes to Sam that he was a man of character that cared about his issues. Overall a great episode with some truly funny (the practice) and inspirational moments (Sam). If it were not for Keeley parts this would be a perfect 10 episode. Still glad to see the magic is still there.

Harbouring thoughts.
xmasdaybaby196622 June 2023
I am pleased to see many of the reviews here match my thoughts.

The second half of the show was good with some great humour but there is a lot forced here too.

When you have to resort to dick jokes then you know thd writers are struggling.

The quality has gone and yes the utter positivity and bonhomie is really too much.

Even Nathan whom had been turned into a bad guy at Rupert's side is returning to nice Nate who a girl wants to date.

I am impressed with the football sequences though. Football has always been hard to portray on screen but the show does do it well.

Having said that, the episodes are too long and the filler has been showing for some time.

Setting It Up
Hitchcoc13 March 2024
As we coast toward the end, we have some things to deal with here. Some have criticized the focus on racism and politics. This has been part of soccer for a long time. Especially the teams made up of international starts. Here, the treatment of minorities and immigrants can't help but affect the world we are seeing. When the restaurant gets vandalized it is typical of treatment that goes on frequently. What was hard to swallow wasn't the new coaching philosophy and tactic, but the way it was implemented. The business with the red strings was downright embarrassing and could not have even been done. What about personal dignity.?

Heavy handed
vickytaum29 April 2023
For a show so overwhelmingly light, it is a suprise that it's becoming heavy handed on its use of positivism. The show has no real gravitas or conflicts anymore, it's becoming more and more a Xmas special (and not its great Xmas episode from before). With life being so bleak by itself it is refreshing to have a more uplifting show, but it has become a bit monotone and forced, thus moments that should be powerful don't seem earned anymore. The show itself was brilliant in showing how Ted's 24/7 optimism and unbridled enthusiasm was troublesome, so it is ironic that the show is falling on the same trap. Its brilliance comes when it takes the harsh reality of things and add a bit of magic, the "lasso way". But when everything is magical and fluffy, suddenly it's not so special anymore.

Ps: I love Trent, but I can't be the only one troubled by the fact that he went from the most intelligent man in the room to "the dummy that we love" and basically the one that's telling us, stupid viewers, how it is aaaall coming together.

Miss this show
jimmietee13 August 2023
This show used to be so enjoyable and I sure miss it. Last episode touched on what used to make it great. Now we have Lasso being there 3 years now and hasn't bothered himself to even learn the game he is paid millions a year to coach. Jack has turned creepy as hell apparently only bankrolling Keeley because she wanted to get in Keeley's pants (and has) seriously that is 1950s type of stuff. And. Nathan has gone on to pursue his dream so his story arc is done. But we still waste time on him. I get that they are bringing him full circle to be bestirs again, but he never was and never will be. He is interested in his career. Unlike Lasso. And his gold digger of a girlfriend that treated him so badly until he became rich and famous? How is that a good story?

Awful! They've totally jumped the shark.
FreddyShoop2 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, this show just keeps getting worse and worse. What are they doing?! Politics and weird relationships, yeah, that's what I tune into Ted Lasso for. I don't know, they could just be running out of stories...because the new ones are awful. It was a kindly fish out of water story, now it's this controversial agenda and that controversial agenda....and throw in some weird sex jokes.

They've gone into farce. Maybe they've been there all along and I didn't notice. But when they tie strings to their penises in practice to learn a new strategy...well, I don't know what the heck I'm watching.

I guess I'll long for the days when the story was about Ted. A kind hearted soul in a fish out of water story, surrounded by cynics that he wins over.

Unwatchable
pollotec3 May 2023
I hate to write this, but this is the episode where Ted Lasso has ended for me: RIP, Season 3 episode 7. I watched half of it and could not stand for any more of it. I realized I was telling myself that I didn't really care about any of the characters, the plot is boring and lifeless, and the scenes are forced and not funny.

Additionally, the themes are so obviously heavy-handed now, that the entertainment has completely slipped away. I wish it were not the case, but for a show I used to recommend to everyone, I can no longer. It has become a total waste of time for me, and there's plenty of original content out there to be entertained by.

Farewell Ted.

Turning into a cheesy sitcom
mikeinabox28 April 2023
After last week's return to form, this episode solidified my opinion that this season has been a slow transformation into a cheesy sitcom. Finding it less believable and very forced as this season moves along. The romantic relationships in particular are very contrived. What was a quirky little story in season 1 has become quite bland and eye rolling - how can we resolve each storyline in a nice tidy bow in one hour. Roy is the only highlight but even that I feel is just a heightened character that has lost any real development or awareness from the audience.

I think it is time for Ted to hang up his lasso.

Falling apart
jakewilkinson1224 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what is happening to this show but it isn't good atm.

Nathan's redemption story seems wrong. He was nice guy who turned villain and now they want us to care about him again as some vulnerable nice guy. Secondly, the girl he likes that supposedly the writers want us to root for was horrible to him before she knew he was rich and famous. So it's not a good storyline at all.

The Sam/Immigration storyline is also another political lecturing story that feels very forced and is annoying. Firstly, painting the picture that been opposed in any way to any immigration (in this case illegal immigration almost certainly facilitated by people trafficking gangs) is polarising and counter productive.

Final 2 quick points that I don't like. Ted is still an extremely bad coach and doesn't understand football after 3 seasons of being paid millions which is unrealistic but also at this point it's quite boring and I'd much prefer if he gradually became an actual good football manager.

Finally, what is the point in the Jack buying Kewley gifts/love etc. Seems pointless filler to me.

Puts You to Sleep Faster Than NyQuil
blackstars-731829 May 2023
This show used to be funny, charming, and entertaining. Now it's just boring and puts you to sleep.

They sucked all the fun right out of this show. I used to laugh during every episode and walked away feeling happy and uplifted. It's not funny anymore and I can count on one hand how many times I've laughed this season.

I've basically given up on this series and only continue to watch it as background noise. The story has gotten so slow and lifeless that even when you're only half paying attention, you don't miss anything.

Everything about it has gotten pathetic and the characters have become very disconnected. Everyone is doing their own thing, it's all disjointed and at this point, I'm not even sure what this show is about anymore.

It's such a shame to see what was once such an amazing show get flushed straight down the toilet.

Final season, getting licks in.
MeatWagon91119 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show seems to be going downhill. There have been a few comments here and there this season with more left leaning ideologies - which is fine if it fits a character. Unfortunately, a lot of it has felt forced (Keely suddenly attracted to females despite showing absolutely zero interests in the prior two seasons).

This episode dives straight into it. The "shut up and dribble" comment relates to LeBron and the white female writer a few years back. And tbh, when you don't know what you're talking about, you should. Better to remain quite and not appear stupid than to speak and remove all doubt.

Ted lasso is now playing Ted Lasso
kristinbauer123 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Lord it's time to call it a day. Ted's cheerey Ted-isms (like the speech about the mustaches when they are losing AGAIN...is not charming anymore. It makes Ted just a moron at this point. Jamie even has to start coaching.

The premise of the show made it work that Ted was an idiot about football but now...after three years of coaching, it makes him stupid.

What was the point of the whole Zaba story line anyway? My god this season is lost.

I also saw this coming that the team would fix up the restaurant- nice moment but this show has become a bit confused and a Bit contrived. A lot of moments that don't connect.

There are A,B. C,D,E....story lines. So many scenes are not either entertaining or moving the story forward.

Ted's wife brought her new boyfriend to the UK?!?! That's a lame storyline all around, I wonder why this story line is still around? Ted's gonna head home to be with them or move them over(?)...bottom line is I really do not care. No one really does, I suspect. And Instead of being a coach, during work hours, he bugs his boss, in that office scene, about his X!? (That kid a good actor tho)

Ted is becoming a whiny adult baby man who's also a horrendous coach. And somehow Rebecca is like, ok, after really wanting to win. #makesnosense

And the Keely porn movie, where'd that come from? They're being obtuse which makes me think it's some ploy to malign jack and get Keeley and roy Back together because why else did they break up (that was weird!). Certainly was obvious that the one dude sees the other dude is gay on his phone.

I guess I'll hang in there and see if that gun planted in act one will go off - ie who will get Rebecca pregnant?

That's all I've got left. Such a shame.

PS-Keeley's hair dresser and costumer have jumped the shark. The polo outfit was awfully silly, even for Keeley.

Why do you bring in all these political topics?
TheSKYY22 May 2024
I really liked this show a lot the first seasons, but season 3 really destroyed this by making political topics the center of the season and nearly completely going away from the original topic "football" and "Ted the positive person". It already started with bringing in gay and lesbian topics which in general is absolutely fine, but making it main elements just feels so unfitting to the main story. It feels artificial and then now the political topic about migration which is a huge issue in Europe is only shown onesided.

Why is this show ruined which political things instead of focusing on the topics which made the show great.
