Supergirl - S02E15 Star-Crossed
j_forbesy21 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When the title of the episode is titled after a love story, it has me worried. And what do you know, Supergirl continues it's second half season roll, roll off a cliff into Arrow season 4 territory. This season is a long was from saving and if it keeps this up, this series could be a long way from saving for me.

Kara and Mon-El. Karamel. Whatever name they have. Like Arrow became the Olicity show, this has become the Karamel show, and this show stinks. Remember when Supergirl was a show about an alien girl who grew up on Earth and works in secret with her sister and a martian to take down crime? It's not hard to forget because they tell you that's what this show is about at the start of every single episode. Of all the superhero shows on the CW, this one has by far the least accurate description as it's opening sequence. It should go more like, "At the end of last season this cute guy turned up on Earth and I suddenly became an egotistical person who thinks I am better than everyone else and each week we have fights because drama is the best thing for this show, and sometimes I will stop a space ship from taking off but that was only one time, we are Karamel."

What made this episode more frustrating was Winn's storyline was the stand out of this episode, and it wasn't even that good. If Winn's storyline was the main arc for an earlier episode of the season, this episode would be looking at an extremely high score, but it wasn't.

Like the big crossover earlier this season, this episode had a tease for what was about to come. While I'm not head over heels excited to see what they can toss up in a musical crossover, I'm still interested to see what they can do with it.

At this point, Supergirl is on really thin ice. Knowing me and my need to complete things I will probably continue to watch this show while it's on air because I am such a fan of the other 3 shows, however my excitement for it each week is heading further and further down hill.

This episode did basically nothing to further the overall story. It had a back door intro into the crossover but apart from that, not one thing is going to be remembered about this episode by the end of the season. Mon-El as a Prince doesn't count because we all knew it was coming. 6/10

Funny Face
ThomasDrufke21 March 2017
As was the case with the mid-season crossover, the first part of the musical crossover with Flash wasn't really a crossover at all. In fact, it was yet another instance where they just threw the tease in at the end of the episode so that we would tune in for The Flash episode the next night. For people like myself that already watch The Flash, that made for a bit of a disappointing episode.

With that said, I never would have thought I enjoyed a Winn story more than the main arc of the episode, especially considering it centered around his underdeveloped girlfriend. Having him get conned into stealing artwork by his own girlfriend? Yeah that accentuated just how lame of a character he is. But this plot also provided some more cool team-up fights between Guardian, Alex, and Maggie's crew. Wow, I never thought I'd be saying cool in the same sentence as Guardian. But it was honestly a solidly crafted episode in terms of the action.

On the other hand, the weekly romance problems between Mon-El and Kara is getting really frustrating. I understand that she's upset with him not telling her about his Daxum history, but to once again break off the relationship was just lazy. She claims that love is hard and needs work, but refuses to ever put forth that work. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the character, Mon-El clearly approaches the relationship in a more realistic and mature way. I'm tired of complaining about the romance week to week, especially considering it started off feeling cute and refreshing.

So we got the end tag with the Music Meister, played by Benoist's Glee co-star Darren Criss, sending Kara into a dreamy version of Earth-1? It definitely didn't feel entirely cohesive with the rest of the episode, but a nice tease for the Flash episode nonetheless. In all, I was not impressed with the Daxum subplot, but somewhat entertained by the Winn storyline. Quite a shock, indeed.

+Winn's story was entertaining

+Action/team-up fights

-Kara & Mon-El's relationship stuff

It's time the writers do justice for Mon-El's real role in Supergirl team
farrah-tiffani25 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I think the prince thing was never a surprise for a lot of people, but the way they pulled it off was just... puzzling. But regardless, this was one of my faves so far.

So Mon-El is son of Lar Gand and Rhea. Which is confusingly interesting because isn't Lar Gand supposed to be Mon-El's real name?? But then I've let past one big confusion long time ago when Mon introduced himself as Mon-El and Kara didn't even question why he shares the same surname. I just simply assumed this show is aiming teens and kids and mainstream viewers who don't really care about the 'little things'.

I get that they wanted to twist Mon's history with the Els by making him the love interest for Kara, but I think it's time to tone it down. The chemistry is amazing and of course they're rumored to be dating in real life, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people who are fans of Mon-El in the comics or people like me who secretly hoping Mon-El is a nod for LoSH in Berlantiverse, are frustrated seeing his arc in the show. Yes I get it, they're together, put it as a background and start to work on what his role is in the team. That way the haters can relax a bit and get their Supes back. Yes I also get it, he's in a hero journey, and a journey isn't always cool and badass, but I feel like the writers are secretly hating him...

(1). The scene in the star ship when Mon says to his dad, "I can't stay, I'm also a hero, well trying to be.." is like the worst line ever. They could've gone with, "I can't stay. I still have to achieve being hero with Kara's help..." still cheesy but better. If the writers hate this character so much, why brought him in at the first place? They cast Chris Wood for God's sake. He killed it as Kai in Vampire Diaries, but here, I feel bad for him sometimes. But then, I guess that's why they cast him for this bland character, and the lousy writing. Cos not many people can work on that and still make it entertaining, and damn, Wood can sell anything. (2). Mon said to Kara that being a hero means he gets to spend every single day with Kara, but then later said to his parents that he wants to stay because he wants to be a better person and do good??? But you know, maybe he thought about it on the way before being beamed into the ship.

So this episode has shown how much Mon has grown from the first time we knew him, and that's good. I might be wrong, but if they really intend to replace Jimmy with Mon, they have to make Mon seems a lot more worthy for a start. Here's an idea, make him runs the alien bar. That'd be interesting to watch. A couple scenes of Kara comes to visit him at lunch time from work (because we all know she's going to get her job back) would be nice. That way this show can send another message of being good in what you do no matter what it is. Being reporter or scientist or law enforcement seem to be a thing in DC but it's kinda getting old. And starting a career as a bartender and then runs the bar while also occasionally puts on a cape and fight crime can be refreshing, right? Just saying.

And now the good things: (1). Rhea's chat with Kara. Perfect. Teri Hatcher nailed it. Gorgeous, intimidating, snarky. She gracefully silenced Kara with truth. It's like she can read Kara's mind; (2). The moment when Mon tells his parents that he doesn't want to go with them. It was strongly delivered, very convincing. Well done, Mr. Wood. (3). There were few things didn't really add up with the whole Winn & Lyra thing. But it's cool to see Winn stands up for her and goes in the field to pull off his plan. And the plan works. (4). Guardian tried to beat Mandrax, but failed. It's fun. He wasn't the one who saved the day anymore. It's good to see a hero fails once in a while. (5). The whole Winn's interrogation scenes was very entertaining. (6). The little gimmicks: Winn's line "Yes it is great that Picasso is intergalacticly adored"; Mon jumps up the railing was really cool. He's been doing it a couple times in the show and it looks effortless, I love it; Kara's "superfriends" scene with Winn & James.

So, for sure it wasn't awful. Lots of cool scenes made up for the few bad scenes. I'm looking forward to Mon's development in next episode. Hopefully they'll do him better.

Terrible Storyline!!
johnnyannabel21 March 2017
This ongoing Love Fest between Supergirl and Mon-El is grinding my gears. Of all the characters on the show that Supergirl could have fallen in love with, the writers choose this bumbling buffoon. His character in itself is absolutely redundant. What has Mon-El ever done? He's a nobody and the show wouldn't be any worse without him, I can assure you. I tune into Supergirl hoping to see new metahumans and action scenes and what do we get? This ridiculous storyline with Supergirl and Mon- El as lovers. I was really hoping that the writers would send him back to his planet so I wouldn't have to see him again, but once again they disappointed me. I would rather Kara fall in love with Winn or James, at least they're decent guys and somewhat worthy of her love. But Mon-El? Give me a freaking break! Please abandon this ridiculous storyline or I'll quit watching. I'd rather see Barry Allen and Iris, and that's a ridiculous storyline as well. You progressive writers are killing TV.

Fun romp of a B plot but as usual Mon El drags the episode down.
heclohogaj20 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Delightful B plot. While predictable, it was great to see the "superfamily" back in action together in an arc that felt a lot like season 1. It had heart, and humor and doing the Right Thing (tm) to save the day, and help someone who needed it.

Sadly, the same can't be said for the A plot. I don't even know why they call it Supergirl anymore, they might as well just call it the Mon El show. Here's the thing. If you're going to do the whole "rich boy learns a lesson and become good" you need to start earlier. Mon El's "redemption" has dragged on and on and on and he backslides so often I frankly couldn't care less what his motives are anymore (if he even has any besides getting in Kara's pants).

Besides, Arrow has the "rich party boy becomes a hero" market cornered in the Berlanti verse. Do we really have to watch a much weaker Ollie 2.0 take time away from Kara and her family? Oliver *earned* his redemption and quite literally has the scars to prove it. Seriously what has Mon El done, drink club soda? He's boring, and instead of a show about a SUPERHERO struggling with her dual identities, I feel like I'm watching a tween dating show. Enough already. I've never seen a character so obviously created to pander to people who don't know anything about the comics that inspired the show and it's time for him to go.

Give Kara back her show.
