Votes: 22,118 | Gross: $12.40M

For some reason, I've always been interested in coming-of-age fall-from-grace films, and this film is no exception. Robert Downey Jr excels in this role, unfortunately a little too much as this becomes an example of life imitating art. We are all very fortunate that the real life outcome is very different than that of the movie and RDJ eventually becomes a shining example of how to come out of the lowest of lows by making the right choices and becoming disciplined. He is a role model to many.

Votes: 1,003,626 | Gross: $408.01M

I'm a huge fan of the books and I enjoyed the movie. However, it is my opinion that it could be improved by giving it an R rating so the darkness and morbidity could be played out in the same manner as the books instead of being watered down. I am curious about how they are going to deal with this in the next two movies as the darkness plays even bigger roles.

18. X: First Class (2011)

PG-13 | 131 min | Action, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

In the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.

Director: Matthew Vaughn | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon

Votes: 723,630 | Gross: $146.41M

In my opinion, this is the best XMen film to date. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the origins and motives of our characters. I am a big fan of cinema that successfully focuses on the phases and development of character relationships, and First Class did that well.

19. Thor (2011)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Fantasy

57 Metascore

The powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Director: Kenneth Branagh | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston

Votes: 900,133 | Gross: $181.03M

Another film I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. Thor had brilliant casting and storylines. This is the first I've seen of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston and I thought they were amazing. Hemsworth, with one of the most beautiful male bodies in Hollywood (and an equally beautiful face), is quite a treat for the eyes as well. I always love seeing the cameos from the other characters in the marvel universe, especially Tony Stark, who is even better eye candy in my book.

20. Tron: Legacy (2010)

PG | 125 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

49 Metascore

The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father's corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.

Director: Joseph Kosinski | Stars: Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner

Votes: 355,842 | Gross: $172.06M

I did not think I would enjoy this, though I admit I didn't know much about it and hadn't yet seen the original. I threw it on the screen while I was reading and from the moment of the first scene I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It was a very artistic and visual pleasing film. Being an artist with an obsession with symmetry, those attributes were not lost on me. I'm also a big Jeff Bridges (who isn't?) and Olivia Wilde fan. Micheal Sheen was a scene-stealer as well.

21. Wild at Heart (1990)

Director: J.J. Abrams | Stars: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Leonard Nimoy

Votes: 620,246 | Gross: $257.73M

I did not think I would enjoy this because I'm not a Star Trek fan. However, I am a huge Fringe fan and with JJ Abrams, Nimoy, and all of the shared crew, there were an incredible amount of similarities. The movie also did what JJ does so well - phenomenal character development a strong focus on character relationships.
