This film feels more like an Avengers film than just a Cap one. The fight scene between the superheroes is the best of its kind in film.

Votes: 709,277 | Gross: $373.59M

This is the best Spider-Man film ever. It does the best job of being true to the spirit of the comic. It develops Peter Parker as much as it does Spidey.

Votes: 724,087 | Gross: $146.41M

This film uses an odd idea of taking the X-Men back to the 1960s, but it works thanks to strong performances and characters.

This was a strong sequel to the original X-Men film. The characters become fuller and more complex. The film ends with a stunning cliffhanger.

Votes: 646,959 | Gross: $157.30M

The original X-Men films is a great introduction to the characters. Strong performances allow for two decades of films for this franchise.

88 Metascore

Votes: 838,027 | Gross: $700.06M

This is an excellent film that broke box office records for Marvel. It’s the first film of its kind, with a heavy emphasis on Africa as the setting of a superhero movie.

19. Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

PG-13 | 129 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

69 Metascore

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Director: Jon Watts | Stars: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei

Votes: 557,350 | Gross: $390.53M

This improves on the previous film in this serious. It’s funny and creates an interesting spin on the Mysterio villain.

20. Ant-Man (2015)

64 Metascore

Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world.

Director: Peyton Reed | Stars: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly

Votes: 722,460 | Gross: $180.20M

This is an underrated Marvel film that tells the origin story of the main characters. It blatantly copied the formula from the first Iron Man film, but that’s not a bad film from which to borrow.

21. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)

PG-13 | 150 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

Director: Peyton Reed | Stars: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Walton Goggins

Votes: 450,145 | Gross: $216.65M

This is a worthy sequel to the original. The cast of characters is very likable. The quality of the humor is also high.

24. Iron Man Three (2013)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

62 Metascore

When Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.

Director: Shane Black | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle

Votes: 899,705 | Gross: $409.01M

This is a mediocre Iron Man film, but I found it very entertaining due to another fantastic lead performance by Downey. The Mandarin reveal was controversial, but I liked it.

25. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

PG-13 | 141 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.

Director: Joss Whedon | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth

Votes: 922,334 | Gross: $459.01M

This is a good film overall, but it’s also a big disappointment because it fall far short of the lofty standard set by the first Avengers film. Ultron was not a very interesting villain.

26. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

67 Metascore

The Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego.

Director: James Gunn | Stars: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel

Votes: 760,129 | Gross: $389.81M

This was a good, fun sequel, but it’s a bit overrated. It doesn’t hold up to the original and the final battle against Ego is overdone.

27. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

PG-13 | 133 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.

Director: Jon Watts | Stars: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei

Votes: 719,983 | Gross: $334.20M

This film was a lot of fun, but fell short of the standard set by the first two Spidey films. I hope wasn’t a big fan of the intelligent, talking Spidey suit.

28. Deadpool 2 (2018)

R | 119 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

66 Metascore

Foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) assembles a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg Cable.

Director: David Leitch | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison

Votes: 646,359 | Gross: $324.59M

While this is not really my cup of tea, Deadpool 2 is entertaining and an improvement on the original. The introduction of Cable is good and some of the inside jokes are hilarious.

29. Iron Man 2 (2010)

PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Sci-Fi

57 Metascore

With the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.

Director: Jon Favreau | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle

Votes: 869,011 | Gross: $312.43M

This was a big drop in quality from the first film, but it was still a fun ride thanks to Downey’s performance as Tony Stark. The supporting performances by Rourke and Rockwell are quite good here.

30. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

PG-13 | 132 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

71 Metascore

Shang-Chi, the master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organization.

Director: Destin Daniel Cretton | Stars: Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Ben Kingsley

Votes: 435,982 | Gross: $224.54M

The film has good character and action sequences. The plot is just average and gets tedious at times. The movie goes a bit long, but sets things up for sequels.

31. Thor (2011)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Fantasy

57 Metascore

The powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Director: Kenneth Branagh | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston

Votes: 900,690 | Gross: $181.03M

This is a decent, but disappointing debut for Thor. The characters of Thor and Loki are outstanding, but the plot is nothing to write home about.

32. Captain Marvel (2019)

PG-13 | 123 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

64 Metascore

Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Directors: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck | Stars: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law

Votes: 611,126 | Gross: $426.83M

This is a decent MCU film. The biggest problem is that it takes place over 20 years before the other movies. It takes a while to get into the film, but it is well acted and does well to introduce the Kree and Skrulls.

33. The Wolverine (2013)

PG-13 | 126 min | Action, Sci-Fi

61 Metascore

Wolverine comes to Japan to meet an old friend whose life he saved years ago, and gets embroiled in a conspiracy involving yakuza and mutants.

Director: James Mangold | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima

Votes: 492,361 | Gross: $132.56M

You can see the talent of director James Mangold here. He would make a much better film with Logan. The film starts out well and is thrilling, but the script falls apart at the end.

34. Blade II (2002)

R | 117 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

52 Metascore

Blade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela

Votes: 234,532 | Gross: $82.35M

This sequel is very different from the original, but very close in overall quality. Snipes is once again very strong in the lead.

35. Blade (1998)

R | 120 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

47 Metascore

A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.

Director: Stephen Norrington | Stars: Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright

Votes: 299,176 | Gross: $70.09M

A mediocre comic book film by today’s standards, the original Blade was pretty good for its time. It’s the first Marvel film of the modern era.

36. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

61 Metascore

Bruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.

Director: Louis Leterrier | Stars: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt

Votes: 523,758 | Gross: $134.52M

The second MCU film is a bit underrated. Ed Norton is good as Bruce Banner, and the film is a significant improvement on the Ang Lee Hulk film.

37. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

Steve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.

Director: Joe Johnston | Stars: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell

Votes: 897,270 | Gross: $176.65M

This is an interesting debut for Cap that is set during World War II to tell the origin tale. Wonder Woman does it better, and the Cap sequels are much better than this.

38. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

PG-13 | 118 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

57 Metascore

Thor enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct.

Director: Taika Waititi | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson

Votes: 401,554 | Gross: $343.26M

Director: Alan Taylor | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård

Votes: 725,436 | Gross: $206.36M

This is an average Marvel film that does not improve on the original. The dark elves are not great villains. Fortunately better then things would be ahead for Thor.

40. Deadpool (2016)

R | 108 min | Action, Comedy

65 Metascore

A wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.

Director: Tim Miller | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein

Votes: 1,126,550 | Gross: $363.07M

This is the most overrated of all this he Marvel films. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but the sequel improved on the original.

41. Black Widow (2021)

PG-13 | 134 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

68 Metascore

Natasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.

Director: Cate Shortland | Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz

Votes: 426,526 | Gross: $183.65M

This might be the weakest of the Avengers solo films. It’s really a mixed bag, as some things worked but others did not. The whole movie was a flashback, and this lessened the urgency.

42. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

PG-13 | 161 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

67 Metascore

The people of Wakanda fight to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T'Challa.

52 Metascore

The saga of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations.

Director: Chloé Zhao | Stars: Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek

Votes: 386,444 | Gross: $164.87M

45. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

PG-13 | 144 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

52 Metascore

In the 1980s the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive through bringing destruction to the world.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult

Votes: 461,363 | Gross: $155.44M

This is the worst of the Singer X-Men films. It’s too long and bloated and Apocalypse and his horsemen were a huge disappointment.

46. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

PG-13 | 104 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

58 Metascore

The human government develops a cure for mutations, and Jean Grey becomes a darker uncontrollable persona called the Phoenix who allies with Magneto, causing escalation into an all-out battle for the X-Men.

Director: Brett Ratner | Stars: Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen

Votes: 541,032 | Gross: $234.36M

A very disappointing follow up to the excellent X-Men 2. They completely blew the greatest storyline in superhero history, The Dark Phoenix Saga.

47. Daredevil (2003)

PG-13 | 103 min | Action, Crime

42 Metascore

A man blinded by toxic waste which also enhanced his remaining senses fights crime as an acrobatic martial arts superhero.

Director: Mark Steven Johnson | Stars: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Michael Clarke Duncan

Votes: 229,163 | Gross: $102.54M

This is a below average super hero film, but perhaps a bit underrated. The extended cut version is better, but this movie does not hold up to the far-superior Netflix show.

48. Spider-Man 3 (2007)

PG-13 | 139 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

59 Metascore

A strange black entity from another world bonds with Peter Parker and causes inner turmoil as he contends with new villains, temptations, and revenge.

Director: Sam Raimi | Stars: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church

Votes: 638,077 | Gross: $336.53M

It fails because it tries to cram in too many storylines into one movie. The alien suit, Sandman, Green Goblin II, Venom—it’s just too much. It would have been better to focus on just one or two of them.

49. Fantastic Four (I) (2005)

PG-13 | 106 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

40 Metascore

A group of astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and must use them to oppose the plans of their enemy, Doctor Victor Von Doom.

Director: Tim Story | Stars: Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba

Votes: 343,987 | Gross: $154.70M

This film is not good, but it’s pretty underrated a bit. The main cast was actually good, but the plot was disappointing. Worst of all, Dr. Doom is portrayed very poorly.

50. The Punisher (2004)

R | 124 min | Action, Crime, Drama

33 Metascore

An undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.

Director: Jonathan Hensleigh | Stars: Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Samantha Mathis, Laura Harring

Votes: 170,630 | Gross: $33.81M

This really isn’t the Punisher comic book fans know and love. The Netflix show is so much better.

51. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

After Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.

Director: Marc Webb | Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Irrfan Khan

Votes: 702,758 | Gross: $262.03M

This was a completely unnecessary reboot. It repeats itself he first half of the first Raimy film, but Peter Parker and Spider-Man come off as inauthentic.
