Mira Sorvino confirms that she and Lisa Kudrow are finalising contracts for Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion 2. More here.
It was all the way back in 1997 that out of the blue, Hollywood gave us a pair of impressive high school reunion movies. First up, in the UK at least, was Grosse Pointe Blank, starring John Cusack. That had the better reviews and initial response at the time. Yet since then, it’s Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion that’s come far more to the fore.
Starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, and directed by David Mirkin, the original film – as discussed in an old Film Stories podcast episode here – was penned by Robin Schiff. She based it on a 1988 stage production called Ladies Room, and it was revealed a little while back that she was cooking up a Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion 2.

Mira Sorvino is giving an update on the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion sequel that is in the works.
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner revealed that Robin Schiff is returning to write the follow-up movie, but her work on a Netflix series is keeping her from finishing the script.
“She’s currently working on Emily in Paris, so she’s finishing up her draft to present to the studio,” Sorvino told Us magazine in an interview. “Lisa [Kudrow] and I are wrapping up our deals as executive producers on it with the studio. We’re full force ahead.”
Sorvino and Kudrow starred in the 1997 comedy directed by David Mirkin from a screenplay by Schiff based on the 1988 stage play Ladies Room. The film revolves around the titular characters returning to high school to impress their former classmates, making up fake careers by saying they invented Post-its.

Jennifer Love Hewitt appeared on the “Inside of You” podcast and revealed she once had to pull a filmmaker aside on set because he was telling her she had to be sexier. As an actor in her early twenties, Hewitt had no idea what such a request even meant. She said that she never felt like she was “in her body” as a young actor as she was constantly sexualized from a young age.
“I didn’t feel self-confident. I felt watched. I felt like I had to be everything for everybody all the time,” Hewitt said. “I was called sexy before I ever knew what being sexy was. I was 17 years old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why I was on the cover of Maxim. I was honored. I loved it. But why?”

The ‘90s were the decade of The Simpsons, sorry Seinfeld. The family was introduced in 1987 through a series of short clips in between skits on Fox’s The Tracey Ullman Show, overstayed their welcome and were spun off. The series debuted on Dec. 17, 1989 with a holiday special, “Simpsons Roasting on An Open Fire,” before hopping on the rotisserie of regular rotation on Jan. 14, 1990 with “Bart the Genius,” directed by David Silverman, and written by Jon Vitti.
The half-hour animated series was created by Matt Groening, who came up with it as a last-second pitch to foil his own plan to animate his comic strip Life in Hell. The Simpsons was produced by TV legend James L. Brooks, who drove The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Taxi, and Sam Simon, who wrote for Taxi and Cheers.

The Simpsons has been commenting on pop culture for over 30 years. In that time, they have done several episodes revolving around movies. From the early ‘90s to today, the landscape of Hollywood has changed dramatically. This has allowed The Simpsons to comment on movies at different eras, many before they even released their own Simpsons Movie in 2007.

Alan Cumming is blasting Hollywood for Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion not having a sequel. The comedy that starred Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino was released in 1997 and despite talks about filming a follow-up, nothing ever materialized.
“I would love to do a sequel. I have to say, I think the fact that there hasn’t been is a really big example of the misogyny of Hollywood,” Cumming told The A.V. Club in an interview.
The Traitors U.S. host has a theory as to why the comedy directed by David Mirkin never got a sequel.
“You know, I think that the things I’ve heard about why, sort of like, ‘Oh, you know, they’re getting on a bit, older women, blah blah blah.’ Terrible. It’s such a popular film. If it was two men in that, you know, two men successful film, we would’ve had six by now,...

Former writer Josh Weinstein has been addressing fans questions on Twitter regarding early episodes of The Simpsons.
As well as being a writer on the long-running animation, Weinstein also served as co-showrunner alongside Bill Oakley throughout The Simpsons’ seventh and eighth seasons.
On Monday (2 January), he was asked about bizarre inconsistencies in early episodes of the show.
“Fun Simpsons discussion,” he replied. “People think we intentionally miscolored these shots as meta-joke about cruddy animation. We didn’t. They’re real mistakes and a great example of seeing extra jokes/references we didn’t intend.”
Weinstein was initially referring to the faded yellow colours of the characters in some scenes. In the same tweet, he invited fans of the show to ask about anything else they had spotted.
“Got any more examples/questions if something Is a reference?”

Although most agree that "The Simpsons" has been steadily fading out of cultural relevancy since season 9 or so, it did have a resurgence in 2007 with "The Simpsons Movie." Say what you will about the film, but it undeniably made "The Simpsons" cool again for at least a little bit. The Simpson family was suddenly popping back into the commercials, and being sold as Burger King kids' meal toys. And as anyone who was in middle school at the time can tell you, that Spider Pig song was caught in every kid's head for months.
But as the showrunners of "The Simpsons" have long since made clear, nothing about making this movie was easy. "Even though the movie is three times the length of the TV show, it was hundreds of times harder to write," said David Mirkin in a 2007 interview, who was the showrunner from seasons 4-6 of the show...

Here's a TV curio that deserves a second look. Back before Bob Odenkirk became Saul Goodman, before Charlie Kaufman became an Oscar-winning writer/director, and before David Mirkin became showrunner over at "The Simpsons," they all worked together on a little-known show that, honestly, shouldn't have ever made it to air.
"Get A Life" was a short-lived satirical take on the sitcom format starring Chris Elliott as Chris Peterson — a 30-year-old paper boy who still lived with his parents, Gladys and Fred Peterson. The show appeared on Fox and ran from 1990 to 1992 before it was unceremoniously axed by the network. And even though there's a chance you've probably never heard of it, "Get A Life" had a small but significant cult following that persists to this day — mostly due to its often surreal and absurdist humor that made it unlike any other network show at the time. As the Washington Post put it,...

YouTube Premium has nabbed yet another big-ticket name as it continues to build out its original content slate.
David Mirkin, the producer of the iconic animated series The Simpsons, is currently readying a live action sci-fi dramedy series for the video giant dubbed Jeff Of The Universe, Variety reports. Mirkin will write, direct, and executive produce the series, while Daniel March and Holly Hines will executive produce for Dynamic Television alongside former Fox and Endemol Shine executive Emiliano Calemzuk.
The concept of the series is still under wraps, though Mirkin told Variety, “I am so thrilled to be working with the brave folks at YouTube Premium and Dynamic Television. In addition, they are giving us a totally unlimited budget. At least that is what I am assuming.”

Mira Sorvino wants to put this out into the universe — she is totally down for making a sequel to the 1997 cult comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
“I would be so into it,” she told IndieWire at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Let the powers that be that would control the possibility of it happening decide to do it. Let’s make a sequel.”
“Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” directed by David Mirkin, featured Sorvino alongside Lisa Kudrow as two lifelong best friends who travel back to their hometown for the titular high school reunion despite the fact that they may not have fully shed their oddball natures. Thanks to Robin Schiff’s sharp script, the film dodged romantic comedy tropes to emerge as a fun, original take on female friendship — as fun and original as the clothes that Romy and Michele designed themselves.

The 2000s were a decade when medium and small-budgeted movies could do big business before being forgotten. We look back as to why.
By the end of the 2000s, getting number one at the American box office was a valuable marketing commodity. As such, studios pumped more and more money into making sure they at least had a great opening weekend for their product.
The consequence of this was that it was harder and harder for smaller, quirkier films to take a brief spot in the sun. Certainly toward the second half of the decade, it seems that the number one movie each week was pre-ordained in a marketing meeting somewhere.
Still, there were some films that have since fallen out of public view that clawed their way to number one. How many of these do you remember?

The plot for an abandoned sequel to The Simpsons Movie has been revealed.
Recent episode 'The Man Who Came to Be Dinner' was originally intended to serve as the follow-up to the comedy's 2007 big screen outing.
The episode saw Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie visit Diz-Nee Land, before being snatched by drooling aliens Kang and Kodos and taken to their home planet of Rigel 7.
Kang and Kodos gave the family a tour of their home planet, before revealing that the family were prisoners. Homer is then chosen to be eaten as part of a ritual.
However, they all narrowly avoid being served up to the Rigellians and are sent home on a spaceship similar to Star Trek's USS Enterprise.
The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean co-wrote the episode with David Mirkin, and revealed that the episode was originally planned to air as the season 24 finale in 2013.

For Halloween, we celebrate The Simpsons' best Treehouse Of Horror stories, feat. zombies, Hitchcock and Kubrick spoofs and more...
“Nothing seems to bother my kids but tonight's show, which I totally wash my hands of, is really scary.”
For anyone who grew up watching The Simpsons, the Treehouse Of Horror Halloween specials are an annual horror staple, from spooky couch gag to horror-themed credits. You can learn an awful lot of things just from watching the show, but for younger audiences, these episodes gave us our introduction to certain iconic horror stories.
Having ditched the early framing device of the family telling scary stories to one another, with Springfielders cast in key roles, the format is now closer to a mini-anthology of terror with three stories that take place outside of canon. This has usually given the writers licence to be more gruesome and outlandish than in the regular series,...

Simpsons episodes are written. Yes, every episode of every show that has ever aired has been written. But with scripts nearly double the length of those of sitcom standards, The Simpsons is different and the show's writing staff aspires to squeeze as many jokes, character moments, and story into 22 minutes as possible. (Just look at the signs, store names, and billboards in any episode to get a sense.) Al Jean was one of the show's original writers. He went on to co-showrun the show during seasons three and four. After taking a diminished role to work on other projects, Jean took over as showrunner again in season 13 and has stayed in that job ever since. David Mirkin came to The Simpsons as an outsider with a great reputation. Yet his two seasons in charge — seasons five and six — still go down as the show's apex. Matt...

Chasing Ice directed by Jeff Orlowski
Chasing Ice is the story of James Balog’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Within months of that first trip to Iceland, the photographer conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.
In a year where the Short Listed Academy documentary features deal with issues ranging from sexual harassment in the military to the Catholic Church’s cover-up of sexually molesting children, Chasing Ice deals with arguably the most important issue proving that the ice caps are melting and that the warming of the planet will have a catastrophic effect. But this is a year where the MPAA rating of a film about bullying school students has seemed to get the most press. That’s a shame. Chasing Ice needs to be seen. It is the most important short listed documentary film of the year. Like Davis Guggenheim’s Al Gore PowerPoint presentation, this film is scary. With never-before-seen time lapse photography we can dramatically see the ice caps and giant glaciers shrinking. A chunk of ice the size of lower Manhattan crashes into the sea. The ice flows like a river into the sea. We all know that when the ice melts, it releases its fresh water into the sea and that the water will rise. In time a few feet. Say good bye to land that several hundred million people live on.
So what’s the problem? They don’t have the press machine of Bob and Harvey Weinstein that makes a mountain out of an MPAA rating. Can the Oscar nomination go to the most important film? (could this paragraph go after next paragraph?)
But wait, there is more. This is a strikingly well made film. It has a compelling character, James Balog, who is giving his body to science and this cause. The cracks we hear are not chunks of ice but his knees disintegrating as he scales cliffs of rock and ice. The filmmakers really are risking their lives making the film, the ice takes no prisoners, the small planes and helicopters regularly crash. The film unfolds with precision; we are moved and awed by the characters and the stunning photography. The score is first rate as is the editing. This is a work that should be short listed but might be overlooked because it lacks the political coolness of some of the other films. This would be a shame.
The Filmmakers
Chasing Ice is directed by Jeff Orlowski, cinematographer for the Extreme Ice Survey, and an award-winning filmmaker. A Stanford University graduate, he has been working with Balog since 2007 and has shot over 300 hours of footage of Eis in the field. His work for Eis has screened on NBC, CNN, PBS, National Geographic, and hundreds of other venues around the world.
The film is produced by Paula DuPre’ Pesmen, the winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary and 2010 Producers Guild of America ‘Producer of the Year’ for her role on The Cove. She has also served as producer on three Harry Potter films, Rent, and Mrs. Doubtfire. The film is also produced by Jerry Aronson, nominated for an Academy Award for the documentary The Divided Trail, and the director of The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg.

Maggie Simpson a short animated film by David Silverman
The Longest Daycare is a four-and-a-half-minute-long animated 3D short animated film based on the animated television series The Simpsons.
Directed by David Silverman The Longest Daycare is one of my favorite short animated films short listed for the Oscar this year. Silverman, credited with creating the look of the Simpsons, has directed numerous episodes of this hit series. Daycare has no dialogue. It is hilarious in part because of its silent film style. It is smart and fun. Maggie is a delight. This short film is really special. Between the 3D, the super clever writing and the stunning animation style, it is one of the very rare animations that can be enjoyed by any audience. Silverman’s work deserves an Oscar.
Scored by Hans Zimmer, best known for his work on Hollywood blockbusters, the score references numerous films scores and adds another layer of meaning to this magnificent (really?) work. Silverman attended the University of Maryland College Park and studied animation at UCLA.

Academy announces 15 feature documentary films shortlisted for the Documentary Film Nomination
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the short listed documentary features on December 3, 2012. Under the new documentary branch rules all of the branch members as well as documentary nominees and award winners from other Academy branches could vote for the short listed films. About 180 Academy members participated. Dropping the committee process where four committees would screen one quarter of the submitted films, Documentary Branch Governor Michael Moore pushed the branch to use a preferential voting system with all branch members and other qualified Academy members participating. As this writer expected, works with a lot of hype, such as Bully, were short listed. One can wonder how many members who voted for this film actually saw it. In addition to changing the short listing process, the branch demanded that films had to have been reviewed in either the New York Times or the Los Angeles Times. Voters received 126 DVDs in the mail.
A number of worthy films were omitted, as is always the case, including: The Central Park Five (directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, and David McMahon), West of Memphis (directed by Amy Berg), The Queen of Versailles, directed by Lauren Greenfield. I also really liked Bad 25 (directed by Spike Lee) and Love Marilyn (directed by Liz Garbus). Samsara (directed by Ron Fricke) is the year’s best documentary for its sheer poetry
The Academy can choose to nominate up to three people. However, only the director has a lock on the nomination. Individuals credited as “Producer” are vetted by the Producer’s Guild. Each must prove that they did a majority of the producer roles. This is the third year that this rule has been in force. Many of the films have multiple “producers” so it remains to be seen who will receive nominations. The decision of the Academy will be announced once the films are nominated. This has been somewhat contentious in the past.
AMPAS rules follow:
The nominee(s) should be the individual(s) most involved in the key creative aspects of the filmmaking process. A maximum of two persons may be designated as nominees, one of whom must be the credited director who exercised directorial control, and the other of whom must have a producer or director credit. If a producer is named, that individual must have performed a major portion of the producing functions, in accordance with Academy producer criteria. No more than two statuettes will normally be given in the Documentary Feature category. All individuals with a “Producer” or “Produced by” credit on films that reach the semifinal round will automatically be vetted. The Documentary Branch Executive Committee will determine which producers, if any, are eligible to receive an Oscar. In the unlikely event of a dispute, filmmakers may appeal the committee’s decision. In extremely rare circumstances, a third statuette may be awarded. Production companies or persons with the screen credit of executive producer, co-producer or any credit other than director or producer shall not be eligible as nominees for the motion picture.
The Short List:
Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, directed by Alison Klayman
Bully, directed by Lee Hirsch
Chasing Ice, directed by Jeff Orlowski
Detropia, directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady
Ethel, directed by Rory Kennedy
5 Broken Cameras, directed by Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi
The Gatekeepers, directed by Dror Moreh
The House I Live In, directed by Eugene Jarecki
How to Survive a Plague, directed by David France
The Imposter, directed by Bart Layton
The Invisible War, directed by Kirby Dick
Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God, directed by Alex Gibney
Searching for Sugar Man, directed by Malik Bendjelloul
This Is Not a Film, directed by Mojtaba Mirtahmasb and Jafar Panahi
The Waiting Room, directed by Peter Nicks
The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards will be announced at 5:30 am (Pst) on Thursday, January 10, 2013. The awards will be handed out on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Jennifer Love Hewitt was as 'sexy as a peanut' when she was younger. The 33-year-old actress may play a saucy masseuse who offers extra services in Us drama 'The Client List', but she admits she wasn't confident about her body and looks when she was 18 She said: 'Sex? I was about as sexy as a peanut. I had the sultriness of a clam.' However, it was her role in 2001 movie 'Heartbreakers' - in which she starred with Sigourney Weaver as they played a mother and daughter con team who seduced rich men - which unlocked her libido. After the director David Mirkin told her the sort of sultry behaviour he expected on screen,...

Few know him by name, but David Mirkin has worked on many of televison’s most transgressive shows—frequently at the helm. Of course, until recently television was a relatively anonymous medium, so it makes sense that only comedy nerds and industry insiders realized that the man who created Get a Life and The Edge also ran two of seasons of The Simpsons back when the show was still worth watching and helped out with It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and The Larry Sanders Show. What anyone watching these shows couldn’t miss, though, was the dark, self-referential and frequently surrealistic tone of so...

Chicago – Charlie Kaufman (“Adaptation,” “Being John Malkovich”) once wrote for a TV sitcom so odd that its network and most of the U.S. had no idea what to make of it. Without question, “Get a Life” was ahead of its time. So much of the twisted comedy of 2012 owes a debt to this true oddity from two decades ago, a unique gem that is finally getting a complete series release years after fans started clamoring for it.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Was it worth the wait? First and foremost, the show is much funnier than I remembered. As the audio commentary points out (and there’s one on every episode), the series premiere of “Get a Life” was a relatively straightforward comedy about a man-child. It wasn’t nearly as dark and twisted as it would later become. Quickly, “Get a Life” turned more into a show about a demented loner and...

Twenty years since going off the air, Chris Elliott's cult classic anti-sitcom Get a Life, about a failure-to-launch 30-year-old paperboy who is quite possibly psychotic, has finally been compiled as a complete DVD set. But even diehard fans who marathon the whole series and all of the extras in one sitting won't learn everything humanly (or inhumanly) possible about the show, which was cancelled in its second season despite being the highest-rated new comedy on Fox its first season. For trivia the ultimate fan might crave, we turned to Get a Life's executive producer David Mirkin, who was happy to share with Vulture a few choice tidbits not commonly known about the series, its writers, and its viewers. 1. Fox execs thought the episode "Spewey and Me” was too disturbing to air.Get a Life repeatedly ran into trouble during the script phrase, such as when an episode called “Bored...

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Just one more day until we've got the full schedule for Comic-Con 2012 in our sweaty, nerdy little hands. The Saturday schedule was just released, and we're already mentally preparing ourselves for those long lines.
When it comes to the movie side of things, Warner Bros. is taking over Hall H with some of the most highly anticipated films. First, we'll get a sneak peek at Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim," starring Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Hunnam. Next up is the bread and butter of Comic-Con: Warner Bros. Pictures' "Man of Steel." And, last but obviously not least, fans will get a taste of Peter Jackson's upcoming epic "The Hobbit." Maybe you've heard of it.

With "Ted," Seth MacFarlane's tale of a grown man and his anthropomorphic, foul-mouthed teddy bear, opening this weekend (and for the most part proving to be foul-mouthed fun; look for our review very soon), we got to thinking about the childhood playthings of our (cinematic) past. Considering what a truly influential and fundamental part of childhood having a teddy bear is, it's kind of astounding that there aren't more memorable teddy bears on the big or small screen out there.
Still there's more than one who've found their way into key roles in major motion pictures, and as a result, we've put together a little bluffer's guide into the history of the cinematic history of our ursine pals, with the major proviso that, like Ted in "Ted," they had to be animated -- fans of "Grizzly Man" should look elsewhere. Check out our selection below, and you can see "Ted" in theaters from Friday,...

20th Century Fox Television has announced its 2012 Comic-Con schedule, which we therefore present to you here. Not that they’re offering much that we cover here at SciFi Mafia, except for one of my top two shows. Hey Wait A Minute – Argh! No American Horror Story! Well, given that they’ll probably be shooting, and that Ryan Murphy has indicated that he’d like to keep as much of it under wraps as possible, that’s probably not a huge surprise, though it is a disappointment.
We already learned about the Fringe panel from Warner Bros last Thursday, and… that’s it for us with Fox, except for Futurama which is also produced by 20th Century Fox Television. But for those of you who watch shows that we don’t usually cover here, well, here you go:

"The Simpsons Movie" co-writer David Mirkin is going to know a lot more about Richard Benson as he puts together the adapted script for his memoir "Richard Branson: Loosing my Virginity". Don't ask me what's up with the title of that book, I'm not the one who named it. The writer is also latched on to produce along with Steven Paul who's on the project under the Junction Films label. The autobiography he's adapting focuses on Branson's rags-to-riches tale as an entrepreneur with roots in the music business, as well as his love for death-defying stunts, including riding across the Atlantic Ocean in hot-air balloons. Mirkin will also be directing the biopic, but there's no word on who could be playing the billionaire. His new company Virgin Produced will be attached to the production. The new company is tied together with Relativity Media.Source: Variety...

Richard Branson's story is coming to the big screen, and David Mirkin is all set to write and direct the feature version of Branson's memoir "Losing My Virginity," which happens to be one of my favorite books.
I read the thing a couple of years ago and felt very inspired. Entertaining and insightful, it follows Branson's path from childhood all the way to the success of his Virgin empire. Pretty interesting stuff...
Variety says Branson is cooperating with the filmmakers bringing the project to the screen. Mirkin directed "Heartbreakers" and wrote "The Simpsons Movie." He also produced "The Simpsons" series.

Yes, he looks like the inspiration for Sabretooth, but Sir Richard Branson is worth more than the planet is. Seriously. If we tried to sell earth to another race of beings, they might be outbid by Branson. The owner of all things Virgin (including that cell phone in your hand) has a knack for jumping out of airplanes (that he owns), and now David Mirkin’s deep comedy roots are going to dig their way into Branson’s virgin soil. According to Variety, Mirkin is set to make an adaptation of Branson’s memoirs “Losing My Virginity” his second feature film. Mirkin wrote the screenplay for The Simpsons Movie (and has worked on the show for years), and he’ll be writing and directing the feature for Branson. Oddly enough, Branson himself was Simpsonized in the episode “Monty Can’t Buy Me Love.” It’s good to know the guy can take a joke.

David Mirkin ( The Simpsons Movie ) will write and direct an adaptation of Richard Branson's "Losing My Virginity: How I've Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way," reports Variety . Steven Paul ( Ghost Rider ) is producing through Junction Films along with Mirkin. The book is described as follows: "Oh, screw it, let's do it." That's the philosophy that has allowed Richard Branson, in slightly more than twenty-five years, to spawn so many successful ventures. From the airline business (Virgin Atlantic Airways), to music (Virgin Records and V2), to cola (Virgin Cola), to retail (Virgin Megastores), and nearly a hundred others, ranging from financial services to bridal wear, Branson has a track record second to none. The Simpsons has been in production for the entirety of my life. Making its debut around the same time I was born, I feel a certain kinship with the series and always will, no matter how the quality of the show has been perceived to decline. I own every DVD set of the series. I’m addicted.
The Simpson family is comforting to me; something about the way they’ve (mostly) refused to change with the times. This is probably their ultimate downfall, the reason South Park beats them in ratings, but it’s the reason I’ll always tune in when I can.
My love for The Simpsons, along with my knowledge of how great the DVD sets are (particularly for the commentary tracks, which are among the best in the niche business) is why I can’t help but somewhat dissuade people from buying the 20th season of The Simpsons on Blu-ray.

Executive producer of The Simpsons David Mirkin has claimed that all other animated television shows "are crap". Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Mirkin said that he is confident in The Simpsons keeping its title as longest-running series. "I say this with the greatest respect, but all other animated shows ever are crap! I have to say, some shows we don't appreciate too much, but there are some that are brilliant. "South Park has a very long run and it's still brilliantly funny and inventive. I see that running (more)...

The Simpsons producer David Mirkin has confessed that the animated show's production team is still "in therapy" after making the 2007 movie. Speaking to Digital Spy, Mirkin reiterated plans to make a follow-up to the first big screen Simpsons outing, but admitted that it is several years away. "We're in therapy to get over the last one and once that therapy is completed, we will sit down and do it again," Mirkin said. "But don't expect it to arrive as quickly as the last one!" (more)...
