They're going a bit overboard with Beth's acerbic/psycho personality
cordenw18 December 2021
While the series maintains its absolute top quality entertainment value there's signs that the writers are getting tired.

This is especially so with their portrayal of Beth, John Dutton's psycho daughter.

Up to now she's been just a straight up nasty piece of work. A character that no one could have any affection for, not even the father, but we all set aside our dislike in the name of cinematic license.

I think the writers have tried to make her more of a dual personality but they have failed in trying to convince us that this type of character has some inner soft heart. The reality is that she is a wrecking ball with no redeeming qualities.

The exaggeration of her wrecking ball tendencies in the corporate world takes the scenes to the wrong side of believability and the show suffers from it a bit. I mean, nobody could get away with behaviour like that in today's world.

Of course this may be seen by others as an asset in her make up.... WTF do I know?

Apart from that minor niggle I am completely engrossed in the unfolding story. The acting, the displays of horse handling and cowboy expertise makes you want to sell your house and move there.

Maybe I could exchange my 33ft lot for a couple of thousand acres there and set up shop. (Yeah right!😏)...

UPDATE 11th Jan 2022 .. you could actually sell your tiny, cramped home in Vancouver B. C. and buy a big chunk of land with a ranchhouse on it close to Bozeman, and have money left over.. I just looked it up on the internet. What a crazy world.🙄

Costner and the main crew are just the best ensemble cast I've seen since the Fargo TV series , can't wait 'til the next episode.

Enjoy.

Polititians, gotta love um
dolphiea13 December 2021
Yellowstone highlights the hypocrisy of politics. Politicians advocating for their constituents, lol... it is always and only about their insatiable egos and ambition. John and Rip did right by Teeter. I hope writers will be able to find permissibility in giving the audience a reason to continue to root for um, some what (?) reprehensible characters. Loved Lloyd's interaction with Walker. Don't know who is more impossibly cute- Carter or Jimmy?

This is such an excellent series..

Every episode gets better. It's beautiful to watch and there's nothing I dislike about it. Can't wait to see the next one. The cast, the acting, the writing, and cinematography is exquisite. I can't speak to about how realistic. But it's impressive. So glad it's not on Paramount+.

Sunka , that dog knows how to find clues.
mrmarckline13 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
John Dutton when he becomes governor should make Sunka the dog is Lt Gov, yes he knows how to sniff out the bad guys and possibly the devil , oh wait that's Jamie .

Another spin off show happening called The 6666 stars Jimmy and the Dr whose job is to jack off horses , quite interesting , but only seen on a ranch .

Floyd trades his Calgary winning Rodeo Buckle for an old guitar for Walker how considerate and maybe a gun too , lets see how many ranch hands could he get rid of.( in the mind of an old cowboy).

Beth is doing her thing and when she puts her mind into something , it sizzles.

The episode was fast paced it's going to be a shoot out in the next 3 remaining episodes ,

Finally!! A good episode
terrylarosa13 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Again no twirling horses but that whole opening scene should have been deleted. Jimmy herding or getting horses off does not good tv make. But some nice scenes with Kayce and his family ( fun to see Monica jealous ). Season finally showing some direction with John running for Governor. Great scene with the horses being herded at the end. The one scene that brought the episode down as usual was the despicable Beth firing that poor guy for no reason other than to show what a disgusting human being she is. This is the kind of character that would be hated practically anywhere else but for some unfathomable reason there are weird reviewers that champion whatever she says or does. Teeter showed more class in that emotional scene that Cruella de Beth could never achieve. The next 3 eps look compelling. Now if only the season would end with Beth being mauled by a grizzly........one can hope.

Teeter
scottie-512398 January 2023
I absolutely love this programme.. But I've got 3 words.. I LOVE TEETER!.. All the main characters are fantastic..but when Teeter is on..she's just beyond fantastic.. !! She brings a comedic and also a sensitive side to her character. Yes, this episode touched my heart like a big softy, but it also showed a side to Rip Wheeler, we very rarely see. Chole Houser plays the role with passion and authenticity. I have to admit, I was reluctant to watch this programme, but, after seeing some clips I thought I'd give it a go..and OMG! I'm glad I did. I've been absolutely hooked on it since to the point that I can't stop..! Well Done Taylor Sheridan.. exceptional work. 👏🏻👏🏻

Episode 407
bobcobb30128 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well, we did get a good song playing in the beginning in "The Cowboy in Me" I guess to hype the spin-off series, but it didn't really accomplish anything on screen. The rest of the episode was just kind of there.

Liking this show less and less
grayner-214 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have really liked the show in previous seasons but it seems to be running out of steam or something.

  • It seems Jimmy may be out of the show to go to 6666. But until this happens, we have boring stories of him learning to be a cowboy. As others have said, they couldn't teach him basic roping and other things at the Yellowstone

  • The constant story of the land developers never ends. We've seen very little happening all season.

  • Same story points that don't really do anywhere. Yes, some fun at the bunkhouse is good but this has been long and boring.

  • Beth is now a certifiable lunatic. She used to fight just the bad people but now she is rude to almost everyone. I think they think the scenes with Rip and the kid show her softer side but it does not make her less appealing. She really could use therapy

  • HATE the story arc with Jamie. Yes, some will say he is a dweeb. But the fact is, he went to Harvard and did everything else to be the legislative/political power arm of the family. He really only told John "no" when he wanted to run for AG, something John ultimately wanted anyway. Kasey has said "No" even more to John but somehow that is not a big betrayal. And, yes, he made a horrible mistake with Beth when he was young - but Beth feels she can threaten to murder him all of the time. John allows the constant abuse. The family is being so cartoonishly ugly to Jamie now that he likely will go to be with his father, better than being the constant whipping boy for John/Beth. So chances are good the character will be killed off - sad because Kelly Reilly enjoys working with Wes very much.

  • The whole season has not added up to much. I guess Kasey is now suddenly gonna have an affair or this woman has a secret kid?

  • The John as governor plot is also stupid, He will have to be in Helena at least part of the time if he wins and his conflicts of interest are so huge that it is criminal.

I honestly think - unless the finale is amazing and they can really get their groove back, season 5 should be the final season. I'm starting to think the show has run its course.

Please get rid of Beth
Hazu2913 December 2021
The show would be much better without Beth. It would look less cheap. Beth scenes are always the same, there's nothing there, just a feminist trying to look cool, bossy and crazy. It's boring now. I fast forward every scene with her, but it's inconvenient. Lol Cheers.

Disappointing episode
tb4now16 January 2022
First of all let me start by saying "Please, please, please" get rid of the girls in the bunkhouse especially the blond. They are so annoying and its ridiculous to have them in the show.

As for Beth, I was starting to like her in season 3, and the first part of season 4, but now her personally is now becoming "over the top crazy and mean. The writers need to tone her down.

Anyway, Yellowstone is still (so far) one of my favorite series, however I hope the writers find a way of bringing back the magic they had in season 3.

This season is just pure soap drama crap
Grace88818 December 2021
Season 4 has zero quality storylines - like a lot of others have said, it is all over the place! A season like this could ruin this show! I hope the Duttons loose the farm just to see Beth get what is coming to her! Beth has zero redeemable qualities, and someone please explain why on earth the kid had to apologise to her - Beth is just a psychotic selfish b***ch! As for the 'arse cancer' line, the writers should be sacked & the actress should be gone for showing zero integrity agreeing to say it! It's clear the writers have no idea how to write for a strong woman! Enough with people treating Jimmy like crap, and give Jamie some frikken back bone against his family without being manipulated by his murderous father! Let's move on with the same story line - someone wants to take their land!

What did I just watch?
TruthbeTold262613 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I knew this episode was going to suck just by the opening scene and song. I can't for the life of me figure why this episode has a high rating. Masterbating horses and some grasp to gain attention running for governor? Dumb and stupid. I'm wondering if this is the episode that sends the show downhill for me.

Sadly disappointed
DrMarazanvose13 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Too many plates are being juggled now with various plotlines that don't get the attention they deserve.

Maybe they will tie together at some point in the future but I doubt it.

Beth is just becoming a parody of herself. Her vehement abuse of everyone bar dad is getting tedious. I hope someone delivers her to John Dutton in her vehicle after it's been through the crusher.

No matter what Jamie Dutton does to prove his loyalty to John he simply defaults to can't be trusted. After the speech about him always calling him son you would expect a little faith - but no - can't have him being governor and the acceptance scene was about as unsurprising as Lloyd buying the guitar as the camera focused on the guns. Just keep kicking Jamie like a dog - getting REALLY boring. They have brought back the mother of his child and they haven't even had a conversation together - she talked at him and that was it.

What is going off with the bunkhouse? All women out was the order - so why is Laramie still there? Teeter had to beg for her job and Mia went of her own accord. Simpy don't understand. Laramie was the catalyst for the friction in the first place.

Then we just spring 2 love interests out of thin air - one for Kayce and one for Jimmy. Both feel forced - and what the whole Jimmy thing is about at the 4 6's is beyond me. Yellowstone not capable of teaching him to ride a horse properly and learn to rope? Doesn't say much for for Rip's crew and the mighty Yellowstone does it?

Too much going off and Gil Birmingham had been reduced to a bit part because of it.

P.s. Get rid of Rip MK II - is Finn really needed? Perhaps the world needs to know how to tie knots.

This season is just all over the place!!!
mzzdiana-6543513 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season is just all over the place from Jimmy's story, the bunkhouse squabble, the adopted kid, the protestors, Jamie & his father, Casey's new lil admirer, Beth stuck on the letter "F" for 3 seasons now bc she's either f*n or fighting some big conglomerate (same ol same ol), and now John running for governor. I swear can they just choose ONE to spend more than 5 min in depth on??? This season is the worst! Praying the last 3 episodes tow the first 7 with some kind of suspense, bang, or something! I mean, at this point I'd settle for the finale being a small firecracker! So much potential after Season 2, but 3 is such a huge let down.

... trying so hard to get to a season 5
bjarias14 December 2021
... at one time there was a good deal going on in almost every episode making them interesting ... now there's just maybe one event that's attempting to carry the entire episode ... some don't even have anything ... it's so obviously being stretched out ... & it's still all way too much horses-cattle & cowboy songs ... KR can do alot ... here just being required to do too much.
