Surprisingly good
12 May 2024
There were literally so many things were up against the sequel of the angry birds movie. The first already established the characters as it is, it was being made from Sony Pictures Animation when they were known for being the literal worst, a video game adaptation sequel that has never been done before. Despite it's difficulties, the sequel surprisingly came out significantly better than the original and went beyond my expectations quite a bit. I actually like the

Despite it's title, this is hardly a video game adaptation since it introduces completely new characters, settings, but I'm actually fine with that. Making another adaptation to a very simple game would have legit made this film very bad and the first didn't even execute it that well anyway so I'm glad they decided to go with a more original, creative route. I actually like the heist plot and I found Silver to be interesting. As someone who is interested in physics, her character surprisingly had some charm and fun although I felt it was a bit weird because they are Romanizing Red with his friend's sister

The humor was genuinely peak comedy. I laughed out loud quite a ton during it even if some of it was very non-sensical typical kid humor. But I also hardly laughed in the first film so it is definitely an improvement

If I'm being honest, the animation in the first looks sort of outdated but the visuals were genuinely great in this film. It's very colorful, vibrant and the new characters have good designs.

However, I do have one major complaint. The plot is still super simple and straightforward. I definitely prefer the more fun, original plot than the first's boring faithful plot but both of them lack depth

Despite that, Angry Birds movie 2 was a vast improvement over 1 and kind of left me wanting more of this franchise(It probably won't return because of this film bombed and that SEGA owns the franchise now)

Not bad, but certainly does not fly
11 May 2024
Angry birds was pretty much the only game I played for a few years as a kid growing up in the early 2010's . When I watched this in 2016, I remember not being impressed and thought I will give it a try when I'm older. Well I did and it has become worse

Before that, lets first talk about the strengths of the film. The animation is great, the characters are all fun and the humor is pretty good. Had me laughing here and there but sometimes the humor is just not it, well this a kids film so I should have expected that which is sort of confusing since by the time this film had came out, most of the audience who grew up with the games had outgrew the fart, potty humor thing and was leaning into the more mature themed films but no.

This adaptation was successful at being faithful to the original property but I felt like the film could have actually worked a lot better if it shied away from the games a little bit and made new ideas because the plot was super thin. Luckily the 2nd film did but it would have been better if it started from here. Another thing is, it lacks the most important elements that determine a movie's quality. That is enjoyability, and entertainment. There was no interesting action scenes, no characters that specifically stood out, no deep or compelling themes nor characters. Because of that, I just don't know what to say or anything

The game itself was super simple with no storyline so maybe I am being a bit too harsh here but that's where you add innovative, crazy ideas to the table like some video game adaptations have done that before which vastly improved the quality of their perspective films

The best possible conclusion they could have ever had
5 May 2024
Nothing can truly describe how much I liked Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I loved the first, have a love-hate view on the 2nd but 3 is just something else man. From it's tightly written plot to an emotional roller-coaster whilst fixing the problems the first 2 had

Gamora's character felt really awkward before in our central team so I'm really glad that her character got to shine. Speaking of which, our central gang all went through deep characterization and a perfect cap-off to their characters. I despised Drax in the 2nd film but he finally gets his rich character development we have been waiting for, Quill also improves from the pissed-off character from the last movie back to his understanding person in the 1st film. I really wanted Rocket to shine more and thankfully, he did

His seemingly upcoming death is nerve-racking aided to the wonderful flashback scenes. His backstory was only briefly mentioned in the previous film but this where Rocket was given a proper backstory. We feel bad for the poor guy, and the death of his friends are sad. This makes us have some emotional connection to Rocket. His frequent flashbacks are devastating and when he was miraculously revived, it lead to a very powerful scene that legit got me crying. When he wandered off to retreat the animals, it got me worrying for him and I didn't want to see him die. Also that one scene with Rocket's dead friends got me in tears as well

Besides from the super deep characterization of Rocket, Quill and Drax were also given great conclusions. Both of them were given some poor lines in the previous but the comedic lines in this film have such good comedic timing making nearly all of them land. Seriously, I was chuckling constantly. Drax had some charm in this and gets a satisfying conclusion with the children. Quill surprisingly wasn't chasing after Gamora and finally went back home as Mantis once said. And of course, Groot is still the best thing in the universe. I'm glad that this film focused more on old characters and didn't introduce too many characters and stories. But the ones they did definitely were up to the same level

The new characters were all just as special as our central cast like the dog. Even if she did not have much screen time, the time she was were all just heartwarming and charming.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was surprisingly a bit poetic with the writing at some parts. Like with the "You have to learn how to swim and and not jump on pads" thing. Of course, this was only possible due to the amazing writing it had

One thing to note is that this franchise finally has a decent villain. 1's villain was just dull and 2's was just stupid but finally we have a threatening villain. He deserves the title of a good villain because his actions are pure evil. The direct trauma he brought to Rocket, and the deaths he has caused makes for an actual decent villain this franchise badly needed.

As always amazing action to expect from a MCU film but one shocking thing was, there was a lot of murder. The first 2 did have a bunch of killing as well but it is just blatantly showed numerous times here.

Overall we have an emotionally powerful, wonderful, creative, action packed film that is the perfect conclusion to a great trilogy. Actually my favorite of the 3 because 3 just did everything perfectly and did nothing wrong

Another fine piece of entertainment
4 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is another one of Marvel's examples that they can pull off a genuinely well done film if they hire the right people for the work. In my opinion, it does not quite reach the quality of the first but still a highly worthy sequel.

One thing I have to say first is, wow this film made a lot of memes. I'm surprised more memes came from this film than any other MCU film.

As always, there's amazing to see action scenes of a MCU film. However, instead of just people shooting at each other, the action scenes rather take a more creative approach with a bit of humor mashed into it which works for me. They decided to make Yondu's arrow really overpowered which makes for some hilarious moments.

All of the characters actually changed a lot personality wise from it's predecessor. Rocket's character is far more comedic this time. Although I liked his angry approach more in the first, I still have no problems with the new Rocket as some comedic scenes with him are really funny. Groot is still a legend but I did not like Drax. I liked his redemption in the previous but he is just so unfunny. That one PP joke with him literally got me yelling at him. Speaking of which, the film is mostly funny but some of the jokes really miss

This film continues the tradition by having a mysterious opening and revealing it later. Which made for an amazing 1st and 3rd acts. But you still have to fill the gap that is the 2nd act, and this is where the film falters on.

In the 2nd act, I just mainly have problems with certain characters. The yellow people were ok... Gamora's character is still mediocre but the 2 people I strongly disliked were the father and the son. Quill is literally just yelling half the time. I don't know what happened to the sweet, understanding Quill from the first but I wish he wasn't so pissed the entire film. His father does not fair well either. He had no charm, characterization which makes for a really lame twist villain. Nebula and Yondu's twists were far more interesting than the main twist simply because both of them had characterization and deep moments.

Overall Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still a satisfying film due to it's own distinct charm and humor. But certainly has problems the first didn't really have

A well put together, satisfying film
27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I actually saw this on release a decade ago. I loved it back then and watching it after 10 years, I still love it. It's just that Guardians of the Galaxy works on so many levels and really does not miss on anything. From a fast-paced thriller action to an at times a genuinely touching and emotional film

First off, wow what a dark way to start a film. I first thought that this would be better off being near or in the climax since the audience hasn't engaged at all but later, I learned that it was actually a pretty smart decision. Speaking of which this film was full of brilliancy, Guardians of the galaxy does NOT want you to predict the twists so the characterization happens later on and stays rather mysterious until the climax allowing the audience to be completely unaware of it's plot/twists whilst keeping the audience engaged with funny lines and with it's bucket full fun characters

I loved everyone in the film because they had so much to them and had all their distinct different personalities that makes them so likeable. Rocket had the exact same reactions to situations as I did which really kept my interest. Groot, of course how can you hate him? Drax was awful at first but he did get a satisfying redemption and Quill was interesting to say the least. The only of the main characters I didn't like were Gamora, Yondu and the villain because in my opinion, they're characters didn't have much depth and rushed but for the blast of a fun cast this film has, it's forgivable

We cannot talk about a MCU film without at least mentioning the stellar fight choreography. The prison escape scene, escaping Ronan, the final battle were all very entertaining as the twists were revealed one by one here and lead to an absolutely fun time.

However the thing I loved the most about Guardians of the Galaxy was suprisingly heart-felt scenes. It's tragic opening, the best tree in the world's death, and especially when Quill read his mom's goodbye message. This was a well-built up moment and timed everything perfectly. Quill's mom dying at a random time easily would have ruined the film so they put it in the opening and throughout the film we see how lonely Quill is, we feel for him, we know he's having a tough time because he instantly became close with Gamora. We had the entire film to feel for him giving us some time to understand and when he read that message, that was some pretty powerful stuff.

This ultimately leaves for a very satisfying ending. All our main cast full of loners finally finding a proper place to call home. Though, this film does have just 1 big drawback preventing it from becoming a 10/10 for me

This film absolutely lacked an interesting, or threatening antagonist. In the first act, the film makes you think Thanos is the big threat but no, it was Ronan. Perhaps the film wanted to surprise you but it was just too late for that. Despite the amount of power he holds, he did nothing to showcase his power or evilness leading to a very bland antagonist that did not make me the slightest feel of intimidation so his defeat wasn't the most amazing thing in the world.

But for the amazing qualities it offers, it is absolutely worth your time and you'll definitely enjoy it to the same extend as I did

Godzilla 2000 (1999)
6/10
Has a ton of problems but still a fun time
26 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After a disastrous American Godzilla the previous year, Toho decided that they will continue the previously finished Godzilla franchise to make Tristar see how to make a Godzilla film. Although this is FARRR better than 1998 Godzilla is, this film actually wasn't good itself

I cannot talk about Godzilla 2000 without talking about our kaiju's sick design. No matter what angle, or position you look at Godzilla, he will always look amazing and he was a bit more different than previous Godzillas. Because he had purple torso plates and a flaming hot orange atomic breath. This works well and makes for the most stunning looking Godzilla we have ever gotten to this day!

Right from the start I could tell they were actually trying. Instead of the serious, mature, fast-paced tone of the Heisei era, Toho instead switched things up by making it slower and intended to appeal to a wider audience via jokes. Of course because I do not speak Japanese I didn't laugh at them but there are also more ways Godzilla 2000 tried to be good. The last few Godzilla films all had relatively little Godzilla screen time so this time around, he actually has quite a lot of appearances so the first 2 acts actually were entertaining and worked for me as pretty much anywhere Godzilla was, some action followed and the humans were not bad. Yet

Then we have a highly unsatisfying third act climax. The commander was straight up an idiot. So he is gonna blow a building up that has the UFO on it which will most likely stay there the whole night and someone vital happened to be in the building, so what does he do? Of course! Even if he had the whole night to do it, he for some reason just decided to murder his most important member right there. I liked the first 2 acts but they certainly lacked human characterization so any emotional moment in the 3rd act does not hit and becomes tedious.

The final battle was interesting at first, the UFO using it's unique abilities and Godzilla retaliating. But then as soon as Orga fights instead of the UFO, the fight instantly becomes boring. Both Godzilla and Orga are as stiff as a tree and without any score. Godzilla did ultimately defeat Orga in a creative way but at that point I have had lost all interest.

Overall Godzilla 2000 certainly lacks important elements that makes a kaiju film good. However this is still a fun time overall thanks to the tighter focus on kaiju's and the best looking Godzilla we've ever seen.

Rango (2011)
7/10
Great take on the wild west
20 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It is crazy that all the major animated films of 2011 all are set in foreign countries and cultures. Even though Rango most likely takes place in the US, it has a 19th century Mexico feel. Also I did not know Rango was voiced by Johnny Deep.

The animation is certainly VERY different from other animated films. Sometimes it feels like one of those CGI shots from live-action films but no, the entire thing is animated. This is a difficult feat to pull of considering that its not from a mainstream studio. However this does not mean Rango suffers from bad character designs and bad ageing. Some characters look awkward and dated looking

The plot/story overall wasn't anything special but it was executed well. Albeit, the first act beginning felt rather generic but the quality did significantly pick up once Rango becomes the sheriff as there's a ton of fun and creative action sequences. Also this film has it's own charm thanks to its huge supporting cast and the unique animation style.

The big snake was actually scary. Because of his overwhelming size, menacing nature he was threatening enough to scare Rango away. That eventually leads us to the best part of the whole experience. That one scene where the man tells Rango some lines were pretty though-provoking and we reunite with the armadillo from earlier which leads us to our main message of the film. Save up water and there are animals out there that need it as well.

However Rango does have some major setbacks. First of all, the climax was rushed. There was no final showdown, rather just some baffling. Not to mention the big snake from earlier lost his charm here and felt like an idiot. The whole thing was also very predictable since I was able to predict that the mayor would turn bad as soon as he was introduced. Speaking of which, Rango definitely lacked a proper, menacing villain that could have made it considerably better

Despite its flaws however, Rango is still a good time anyone can truly enjoy. But not deserving of the Oscar

predictable but a good time nonetheless
13 April 2024
This is my first time watching Ready Player one. I actually had a chance to see this back in 2018 but I was like meh. 6 years later IMDb kept on recommending me this film so I finally gave it a try and I ended up liking it!

This film would have been way better if the plot wasn't so predictable. I literally predicted how the film would play out in the first 20 minutes. However because it was so good, I still enjoyed the film nonetheless even if I knew everything. Because a film where it happens in the virtual world is a creative idea and a clear indicator of technology advancing.

The plot was actually pretty good and well-written. Our central 6 heroes had a ton of heart and characterization to them with a great message with a fitting tone. This makes for an enjoyable film and an epic final showdown at the climax. This film also includes a LOT of icons from other IP's. Like Sonic, Mechagodzilla, The twins from the halls, Iron Doom, and Master Chief are all in the same movie. It really did felt like futuristic virtual world. Another thing is that this film plays out riddles to the audience which is a nice touch and of course, the final message was a touching moment to both the characters and the audience

As much as I loved this film, some stuffs definitely could have been better. The villain was very lacking. The most evil thing he did was kidnap Samantha and expected the audience to be scared of him. And the future looks dystopic, like how awfully dirty everything was and how cramped everything was. One of the film's message is exactly about this but I wanted a more promising place. Not to mention how dull the people at the beginning were.

But other than, Ready Player One is a well-written, fun film anyone can enjoy despite the few noticeable issues

Shin Godzilla (2016)

Toho, after a decade has finally delivered a masterpiece fans have been waiting for
11 April 2024
After Legendary's 2014 reboot became a big success, Toho finally decided on giving us a Godzilla film after 12 years of complete absence. However they made sure it won't be like their disastrous Millennium era so the team came up with a genuinely well done film and the best Godzilla film since GMK

As with every other big G film, it has an environmental message to it. That being to not just dump nuclear waste onto the ocean. However the team made sure to make a terrifying, destructive monster which humanity will learn from that won't be brushed off. So instead of the regular black skinned lizard-like Godzilla, we rather got a zombie-like beast that is horrifying

The premise and execution are just as well done. To make up for a lack of monsters, the writers decided to add in little details and crazy ideas to keep the audience hooked and interested. Like when how the problem becomes international or when Godzilla is in the background of some scenes. But my only problem stems from exactly here. Those inclusions did make some of the scenes interesting, but it failed to make the entire human plot interesting as there's really no particularly special character nor any human dramas or dynamics which ultimately leaves a lot of scenes boring

Despite little screen time of Godzilla got, the moments when he was on screen did not disappoint. All scenes with him were very entertaining and quite the blast as Godzilla is such a high threat so the humans literally do anything to stop him like a whole nuke or new inventions and even use rockets in cities. The sheer willingness of the human characters did help to make the Godzilla scenes more fun

Overall easily a contender for top 5 Godzilla films but lacks any interesting characters that brings it down. But this is still my favorite 2016 film

Probably the best video-game adaptation OAT
31 March 2024
Let me tell you when I say Sonic the Hedgehog 2020 is an outlier. Normally it's kind is always mediocre or just straight up bad but hey this film was actually pretty alright.

Sonic the Hedgehog is definitely the best film I've watched that's from 2020. It's hilarious and did make me laugh out loud a bunch of times including that scene at the tavern. However this film went serious when it needed to having some genuinely touching moments at times. The pacing was just right allowing me too fully be interested in the film

It had absolutely perfect casting choices. Jimmy Carrey was one of the best people they could have chosen for Eggman and Ben Schwartz does well with his role as Sonic. The end results are, all the characters have suiting actors playing them adding more enjoyability of the overall experience. The human characters all had their own charm as well and in fact they made the overall experience more fun. All these factors make a highly entertaining, funny film anyone in the family can enjoy

I have very few complaints about this film. Some of the lines were a bit stupid and could have been replaced and a few logical complaints but all of these are very petty and forgivable problems for what the film will offer. So why am I only giving it a 7/10?. Because the plot and premise wasn't really anything special and it didn't have rich writing just a basic film

Morbius (2022)
4/10
Horror to my sanity
30 March 2024
I'm actually reviewing this long after I watched it but I don't want to sit through this excruciating experience again but I still remember a good chunk of it so I am reviewing this

It was a complete mess, they set up the twists so badly and you are just going through a no reaction challenge while sitting through this because all of that horror feels and jump scares is literally foreshadowed very, VERY clearly just right before it making it extremely predictable so you won't even get scared at all. The feeling you would get instead is deep disappointment, boredom, and all that.

The premise was just nonsense, unusual premises can be turned into great entertainment with the help of clever writing and good execution but Morbius lacks all of those elements so it just screams "Yeah we sucked at the writing part" to you while watching. The action sequences are ridiculous, not thrilling. Tell me who would want to see crazy humans that bites each other fight?

Now who on earth decides to test all those chemicals and stuff. Instead of living with that, can't you just figure out a cure since you're literally a respected scientist? The film tries to have an emotional connection with the brothers but that was so bland that the final death scene was just hilarious bad rather than sad.

MCU, gosh you guys made incredibly thrilling action packed films just 3 years before this film, what happened to you guys?

The monsterverse at its highest
30 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a King Kong fan, I'm definitely much more of a Godzilla fan but after seeing the 2 films they just had together, I thought I would give Kong: Skull Island a chance and to my surprise, it's better than your ordinary Monsterverse film.

This film takes place during the 70's so it has a lot of 70's influence in it. 70's pop music, 70's style camera work, 70's style monster action etc. The premise wasn't anything too deep or stellar but hey it has a good story and decent enough execution to satisfy me and not get me hating on this film like I did to the others.

Despite the title, Kong: Skull Island, there is far more humans in here than monsters themselves. You'd be surprised when I say Kong definitely isn't the main character, rather its Marlow, who is a WW2 who got stranded on the unknown skull island after getting shot down. Even if the captain had more screen time overall, he doesn't have the same heart as Marlow who gives an amazing performance aided by his knowledge, vivid nature, and enthusiasm.

So because of the reasons I just mentioned, there is a lot more human action scenes than monster action scenes. Although not as thrilling as the ladder, it's still something entertaining which won't make you get bored at all. But then from the 2nd half, we start to get the monster fights the audience came to see. The team often includes the surroundings during a particular monster confrontation which makes it all the more entertaining

However one major sting was some of the human cast, specifically Packard and Randa. Packard was just straight out an idiot and Randa was basically on auto-pilot after the adventure began. Both of these 2 characters had a big role so more characterization or better writing for those 2 would have easily made this film more exciting and propel it up towards the 8/10's

Overall a much better film than your average monsterverse film but it could've been better

Exactly what I expected from a monsterverse film
29 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I like Godzilla in general but I vastly prefer Toho's output over Legendary's franchise. I thought the first 4 was mediocre and this was no different quality wise from it's predecessors.

This film followed the footsteps of GvK and KOTM by trying to fix the problem of the previous installment but mess up on something else. The fight scenes in GvK were very dragged out so they tried to make it shorter, however any action sequence with Godzilla was just bland. Speaking of which, Godzilla legitimately felt like a regular old side character rather than a main character. Not to mention how he moves. I'm not kidding when I say Godzilla moves like he was crack. His movements were just so weird and unnatural. This was disappointing to me because I came here just because of Godzilla and seeing him get sidelined was just crushing.

I can tell they tried to make this a great film. Because in the first act, they put in a bunch of separate action sequences in between scenes trying to entertain the audience but as I said, they were completely 1-sided extremely short fights that really doesn't entertain us. However the writers did come up with smart choices throughout the film and set up some of the twists well but the plot was so underwhelming. 2014 was the only MV film with a decent plot and it just went downhill from there. Don't even get me started with how they ended the film. "You are my home" like what does that mean? I know what the girl is trying to say but couldn't they figure out a better line?

Speaking of which, this film has a lot of points that makes no sense from a logical perspective. Where does the hollow earth get light? How did the tribe end up down there without any advanced technology? How do they survive the high temperatures of inner parts of Earth? And the list goes on.

However they did nail at one thing. Kong's plot and his action scenes were legit very fun and entertaining albeit I felt like they didn't know how to start the opening so it was just Kong chilling. Obviously I came to theaters to see Godzilla not Kong but I don't have much to complain about Kong. The team did think of creative ideas to get the fights going and so on. Even if it wasn't the best, The human plot was far better than it was in KOTM, and GvK. So I will rate this film above GvK but lower than the rest

Rating: 6.3/10.

Inception (2010)
10/10
This is how you make a weird premise into a masterpiece
23 March 2024
I'm gonna be honest with you. If this film didn't have genius writing, directing and perfect execution then this would probably have been a mediocre film due to its unusual premise. But it didn't, instead with the help of talented people pouring their soul's into a project has made an insanely fun, brilliant, complex perfectly toned action film that is enjoyable to a very wide audience thus receiving a very positive rating here on IMDb

The directors and writers succeeded on a very difficult task because they foreshadowed so much stuff all as while the tone stays mysterious and no one would predict what would happen next. Any other film would have revealed a lot if this amount of foreshadowing thus making it boring but Inception became an exception. The best part is, the premise wasn't even that complicated but they still managed to pull of a very complex film and succeeded in making the entire runtime entertaining with that.

Then during the 2nd half, they changed the tone from a mysterious film into an full of action-packed, exciting sequences that will keep you glued to your seat. Just them succeeding would have made the film boring but thanks to the 200iq writers, they decided to put in some failures but not too much of it allowing maximum enjoyability. Adding to the amazing action scenes, the writers decided to put in the foreshadowing of the earlier scenes here and it adds an emotional heart to the film as well. These combinations make a one heck of a time any other film rarely delivers. In the end, everyone had a satisfying conclusion to them which was pretty sweet

The film chooses a fitting cast to the characters. The entire line of cast delivers great acting perfectly suited for their perspective characters which adds even more enjoyability to the already highly entertaining film. Leonardo DiCaprio gives an outstanding performance as usual, speaking of which

The only 1 pity ounce of problem I had was that towards the end Cobb is just too distracted with Mal. Although that does help give him some character development and a wholesome ending so it's probably just a me problem which actually helped with the film

As much as I love you, How to Train Your Dragon. But Inception has dethrone you as my favorite 2010 film. Legendary and Warner Bros, good job!

Foodfight! (2012)

I want my sanity back
20 March 2024
I am legit convinced that whoever made this atrocity was dared to make the worse film in history. Usually I rate a film based on (emotions, action, character development, voice acting, animation/effects, and enjoyability). But this film made new standards I didn't know existed and failed miserably at all of them

I'm legit just flabbergasted how mind-bogglingly awful the animation is. It looks significantly worse than any CGI films 20 YEARS before this film. It has godly amount of animation errors visible that it just hurts your eyes. The worst part is, the budget was 65 million dollars. You can actually do a ton with that amount of money. For example Shrek had 60 million and became iconic, Over the hedge had around the same and some of the shots still look great. But how in earth did this cost 65 million dollars and there isn't even any expensive people in it at all. Did it cost like 30 mil to render it or something?

If I was ever put into a position of main-director for any animated film, I would try to make the settings unique and have great shots but never in the universe I would never think of making it happen inside A BOX IN A STORE. I'm confident any sane human will never think of that idea at all so that's why I think this was meant to be the worst film of all time

Why are there anthropomorphic animals, humans, humanized maple syrup, toys, monsters existing in the SAME VERSE. Like you could have at least make all of them animals or make only humans but it has characters from 200 types of stuff. All they do is move like people on steroids and have like 1 line. Also why were all the soldiers WW1 German soldiers, just why?

Not to mention this film logically, physically, mathematically makes 0 sense. They have cartoon physics in an film with an animation that looks like it was animated by 5 year old's and rendered for 2 seconds. This effective combo makes for god awful sequences that makes you want to rip your eyes out

Why in god's name is a dog in love with a human with cat ears? He seems to be obsessed with the cat human so he will stay loyal right? Nope, he tries to kiss the main antagonist and dares to say "I missed you" when she sees the cat human. They're are all like "Brand x is taking over" but absolutely 0 scene of any of that is even mentioned here. Also can you guys put the weasel into eternity of rotting?

And finally, the horrendous voice acting. I might say something very shocking but Dex and Dan's voice acting was actually not awful. Although Dex's voice actor sounded like he recorded all of it in 1 recording. He and Dan's character interactions was the ONLY part of the entire film that was just meh rather than pure torture. Anyway any of the voice actors besides them sound very high ngl. Probably because no one wanted to even make an appearance in the film that they had no other choice but to hired genuinely dumb people

Overall this is leagues worse than any of my previous worst films. Like now I appreciate Illumination's catalogue or the Boss Baby because even if they were awful, was still miles ahead of whatever this was

Rating: 1.0/10, easily the worst film I've seen and I need to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 again to refresh my brain.

Just, meh?
17 March 2024
I personally think this is just below average, I just have nothing to say about. The fact that I watched an English dubbing rather than the Japanese version may have severely affected my experience as I'm not a fan of terrible acting.

Godzilla himself really didn't have anything special, his re-design is cool I must admit, but he was just so stiff and the same goes for Kiryu. It only had like 20 seconds of flued movement and that was it. The time he flies back is also just stiffness. There's just none of those cool monster action most of audience came here to see

The human drama doesn't fair much better either. It's just some dude being an annoying a-hole because our main character, Akane simply made a mistake 4 years prior. The little girl however kind of carries the whole human interactions. Speaking of which, she actually carries the entire film for matter in fact because scenes with her are genuinely heartwarming and charming opposed to the boring main plot

The pacing is way to fast. One blink and we're already at the climax, and another blink the film's over. More depth and flued long monster action easily would have fixed it's pacing issues, but nope

And don't even get me started with the atrocious dubbing. The Japanese version is probably fine because there's some decent actors here but just man the dubbing is just pure torture. The characters sounds like how a 10 year would sound after getting scolded because they just have no emotions. Plus the dub really doesn't fit the their perspective characters

The plot is so boring, we don't get half decent scenes until the 2nd half the film when the little girl talks to Akane at the rooftop. Speaking of which that scene was glaring hope as it was the only truly good scene in the entire film. The few wise words the little girl says is genuinely really touching. But then we get to the boring, dragged out, anti-climactic Godzilla vs Kiryu scene. Despite how hard the film tries, Akane to me just has no charm or characterization whatsoever so her supposed sacrifice didn't really affect me

Overall just a mediocre entry in Godzilla's most mid era. Perhaps I would have liked it if I decided to go for the Japanese version but it's still the same plot, action etc so nothing would really change

The Martian (2015)

Basically a 2 hour long documentary about how to survive mars
16 March 2024
As someone who's really interested in space and astronomy, I find this film quite fun and anyone interested in astronomy should definitely give it a try!

Every thing Mike does to make himself survive longer are all actually a real accurate, proven way to survive Mars by scientists. Also the whole space travel, disagreements are all pretty accurate as well. What I'm trying to is, a real life situation where an astronaut is stuck on Mars would definitely play out like the Martian if it were to ever happen

One nice little touch is that the few really interesting interesting lines Matt Damon delivers is really thought-provoking. Like the "in 4.5 billion years I'm the first to climb the mountain" and the quote he says at the end was pretty great.

The tone/themes were basically trying to tell the audience on how to survive Mars and it can go wrong when unexpected which I really like. But remember this film was basically a documentary so no real plot or tone was really there.

There isn't really anything bad to call out for. The few comedic moments it had wasn't really funny and the director was kind of stupid and annoying but this film is hard to call out and is enjoyable to pretty much everyone

Great conclusion that should have been the end
14 March 2024
After watching the 4th films and that got me thinking "Was Kung Fu Panda 3 really that bad?" I had previously trashed on this film for being inferior to the first 2 but maybe I have been a little too harsh

The animation looks gorgeous! They tried putting a lot of styles into this and it in a visually appealing film that looks even ahead of it's time today

General Kai, although not as insanely well-written as the previous villains is still quite the bull. He is for sure a bit intimidating, any fight scene with him just is just great accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack. Speaking of which Hans Zimmer nails it again with a sick soundtrack which makes the action a lot more tense

The fight scenes are just as good. Kai with his sheer strength and with the guild of his blades make for awesome battle scenes and be may be the funniest overall

The tone was just right. It was overall a pretty goofy film but turned dark and became serious when it needs to and the few dark moments it have are pretty sad

However one major drawback was the panda village. Every panda there was just meh and not really memorable. All the new characters except Li and Kai really felt generic. I also feel like they spend too much precious time on the panda village that instead could have been spent on giving Kai more depth that easily would have made it as good as the first 2

Overall a fun 3rd installment of a wise franchise. No matter how many more Kung Fu Panda's they put out after this film. Kung Fu Panda 3 will always be a natural conclusion to this series

Not the best but still Kung Fu Panda at heart
9 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After 8 years of absence, my favorite franchise has finally returned to theaters. What I was shocked about was that there are is a large amount of great things and flaws

The animation looks wonderful and there was some stunning shots here and there but the character designs for the new characters don't look stunning at all. Zhen looks like she belongs to a whole different franchise and rest of the new cast looks like they came straight out of an animated series

The story/plot although had the potential to be as great as the first 2, was still quite decent. I was eerie of Zhen at first but you know I liked her but Tai Lung probably would have been a better candidate for dragon warrior, speaking of which

It was a nice touch to see how much he has changed. From the anger driven vengeful psycho in the first to a much more relaxed character here. However once again him taking a bigger role would've also been a big potential. Also a changed Shen would've been a bonus and fulfill the fans of Kung Fu Panda 2

Have you noticed every good thing I said all had a better alternative? That's because this film sort of wasted its potential. In fact it had more potential than the 3rd but they literally rushed the film so much to the point Chameleon has no backstory. An extra 20 minutes of depth probably would've shot it up to a 9/10. Like DreamWorks chill out

However one thing they did managed to get right was the beautifully animated action scenes. 2 and 3 definitely were more focused on character dramas and conflicts rather than fights. So this film plays tribute to the original by having a lot of action sequences that are all eye-watering to see

If you came just to see some kung fu action, then go watch and you'll most likely enjoy it. However for average film enjoyers this film surprisingly has onslaughts of flaws

The new characters especially the thieves were completely pointless yet they still take up screen time. Most importantly of all where is the furious 5? Another Po+ Furious 5 journey would've made it too similar to 2 but at least give them like 5 minutes of screen time. Also why did they completely scrap Mr. Ping's character development in the 2&3films because he is even more overprotective. At least he didn't go after Po in Kung Fu Panda 2 unlike what he did here

I kind of found the humor in the first act very infuriating but Li steals the show from the 2nd act because any comedic scene with him is just hilarious. Great job Bryan

Despite it's huge list of problems, Kung Fu Panda 4 is still a great film although also a missed potential

One final message, please don't make Kung Fu Panda 5

Very cool sci-fi film but very mixed
7 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Godzilla fans generally tends to be divided on how Godzilla Final Wars was. Some people say it was great and fun whilst others may dislike it for it's mistakes but I'm more leaning to the positive side but man if this film was a mixed bag.

The biggest problem this film has is it's pacing. In the first hour the pacing was really slow and took a while for the thing to do start but in the ladder hour, it was a bit too fast paced but me personally the film actually benefited from this because taking your time fighting 14 monsters would take hours which would eventually get boring. Also to really showcase how powerful Godzilla is

The greatest strength Godzilla Final Wars has is the action. Although very short, the monster fight scenes are still entertaining and I specifically liked the final battle. Despite being a Godzilla film, it actually has more human fight scenes and from someone who likes martial arts, they were fantastic and great.

The overall tone of this film mimics the showa era by having fighting humans, aliens, monster martial art but one key difference is that this is a lot more serious-toned so the goofy wack of the Showa era I hated isn't present. One more thing to add is that this has a ton of western-hollywood influence being still tonally distinct enough to be unique

The human stuff were ok, definitely one of the weaker human plots of the series but the human action sequences were entertaining so I still found it entertaining. Some of the cast gave amazing performances whilst others like Gordon have incredibly dry ones. BTW why was he speaking English while everyone else was speaking Japanese?

One critical issue I was surprised about is how terrible some of the CGI has aged. Some scenes and shots that are made up of CGI hasn't aged the best but this film has the ambitions of a Hollywood movie while being limited to a budget of 15M so the quality difference between CGI and Suit animation is big. However the shots which only have suit animated monsters look absolutely stunning

But I still ended up loving it for it's uniqueness, great action, perfect toning, banger of a soundtrack, despite it's large number of flaws

The best Mechagodzilla film
4 March 2024
After sitting through godzilla vs mothra, I was left unsatisfied and disappointed and a much better Godzilla film was such a fresh air. Let's explain why.

In the previous film, Godzilla felt like an afterthought and he seemed like a side character. I'm so glad the team realized that and Godzilla became the main character and focus once again. The suit actor does a really great job and you really feel for him during tense moments of the film.

Miki Saegasuma is finally given something to do after little to no role during the last 2 films. Making her character even more special than ever was. Although I found the human drama more interesting in the earlier Heisei films, this wasn't half bad. Gojo and her relation with baby Godzilla is the main emotional-force behind the film and the big supporting cast helps it to make it more impactful to the audience. The dinosaur enthusiast has a lot of personality and it has hard not to feel for him

Perhaps the greatest strength of this film would be the monsters. All the old returning Kaijus have a great re-design and much better than their Showa era counterparts. Despite looking similar to Godzilla, Baby godzilla is still adorable and cute. Mechagodzilla's multiple fights are highly entertaining. Rodan makes it even more interesting as his little skirmishes are great as his ability to fly is giving more diversity to the action

The entire tone of this film is "man vs nature". This film shows its ideas not by messages but by premises and action. It gives you multiple perspectives giving you even more diversity which will never make anyone feel bored and keep the audience engaged

On top of all the qualities, the soundtrack is also fantastic. Each kaiju's theme perfectly suits their respective kaijus.

Overall this film surpasses every Heisei film besides Godzilla vs Biollante because I just love that film's tone but Toho, you guys did a fine job!

Kung Fu Panda (2008)
9/10
Be careful from overexposure to pure awesomeness!
3 March 2024
I don't know where to even begin with this as Kung Fu Panda is probably one of my top 20 animated films as this film nearly checks everything that should be in a masterpiece. Speaking of which

The plot and story overall isn't something new but what really makes it stick out is how it was executed. The incredibly thought-provoking and motivational quotes, the Shifu-Tai Lung drama, and the messages are all something very powerful despite the film's rather goofy name.

The main attraction of this film is just how beautifully the animators choreographed the action scenes. These people poured their soul into creating incredibly entertaining, interesting fight scenes that will never age no matter how many times you watch it. Even the dumping battle scene was choreographed with passion.

Adding to it's gorgeous action and hart-hitting plot is also some minor additions such as humor, small details that make it that much more worthwhile. The humor isn't super hilarious but what makes me laugh all the time is that they have perfect timing that makes a lot of the humor land. This film also has contains creative transitions to the next scene. Like how one time Tai Lung's shadow casted over the valley of peace

The villain of course, is fantastic and powerful both emotionally and physically. The character development is also strong which makes the entire film really inspirational for people like Po

Rather disappointing
2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Coming off to watch Godzilla vs Mothra after watching the previous 3 films of the Heisei era, I expected a lot. This had a ton of great things going but its a blow to the face considering the quality of it's predecessors.

The story and plot overall was actually decent. We have a divorced man who wants to avoid prison sentence by helping the Japanese government find the reason why a meteor stroke. This film actually has a lot of Hollywood influence as some scenes remind me of Indiana Jones. In fact the human interactions were the best part of the film

The monster mash took a massive step down from .vs King Ghidorah because they're all very anti-climactic, boring and despite it's title Godzilla and Mothra directly fought each other for only like 2 minutes.

A bit more exciting action could have easily propel this film well into the 8/10's but they are just so boring

Mixed thoughts but I still really enjoyed it
25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Just yesterday I watched Godzilla vs Biollante for the first time and I absolutely loved that film. So coming into the next installment of the Heisei franchise, I had high expectations and I would say I like it

Story/Plot- 6/10

It had plenty of potential, it fact this film was going in the right direction and before the last 20 minutes I was planning on giving this a 9/10 but it really messed up in the last chunk because all the sudden Godzilla is a bad guy? King Ghidorah is somehow alive after getting one of his heads destroyed and damaged wings which he stayed like that for 200 years in a cold ocean? The time travel thing got a bit confusing at the end because why is Emmy being flirty with her ancestor? Why do they change languages multiple times? Eh?

Characters-9/10

I cannot express how much I enjoyed M-11 android because this robot is just full of unexpected surprises and action scene with him was just hysterically hilarious. Kind of reminds me of the spy guy from the previous film. The rest of the cast were great and I did enjoy them

CGI/Shots- 7/10

Expecting from a film that came in 1991, it was no shock that a lot of the CGI here is just horribly dated looking but the new design for King Ghidorah is pretty awesome and even though it's more of a Godzilla vs Biollante thing. I just freaking love heisei Godzilla's design. With the right lighting he just looks so scary and beast-like and he has some amazing shots

Monsters/action-8/10

The main attraction of Godzilla films are of course, the monster mayhem. I really enjoyed Godzilla's confrontation with the original King Ghidorah in Hokkaido and of course M-11, Emmy, and Tasaki's battle of the ship was just hilarious. But once again, they messed up in the last chunk because Mecha King Ghidorah's fight with Godzilla wasn't really that interesting because Mecha King Ghidorah still was losing badly even with 23rd century technology but Super X back in 1985 managed to knock down Godzilla with 20th century technology so that's that

Overall this film was going in the right direction until the last 20 minutes but you know what? Because of M-11 Android is in this film, I will rate this a 8/10

Final rating: 8.2/10.

Extremely well put together, fun cast and entertaining
24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Man if Godzilla vs Biollante is such a fine work of art. I have so much to say about and they're all positive. Probably my favorite Godzilla film I have ever watched

The cast is so much fun. They all did absolutely amazing at their works. Godzilla's new design is so much more expressive, good looking and intimidating than his old design in 1985. Biollante's design is super neat and she's a kaiju we've never seen in the franchise. The spy guy that keeps randomly shooting people at the most unexpected times is just hilarious and he's such a fun character to stick with. Despite him being one of the antagonist's, I was actually sad when he died because he was that fun

The plot was actually decent and they did a great job at balancing the well-put together action sequences and the human interactions. Shiragami mixing Godzilla's cell with a rose's cell which his daughter like and making a giant plant is really thought-provoking. Instead of just firing only missiles, and rockets at Godzilla, the team came up with a much more entertaining way to stop Godzilla by bioweapon via bacteria cells. The ending was just surprises that I was laughing.

The action sequences are actually well done and I specifically liked Godzilla's confrontations with Biollante. The beginning and any action with the spy guy was incredibly entertaining to watch. Never have I checked my phone once because this entire film is just so much fun. This is one of many films I will definitely revisit multiple times

Just one problem Godzilla vs Biollante had is that there was maybe a lack of Biollante screen time but considering the plot, it made sense

Rating; 9.2/10.
