Zakhm (1998)
10/10
One word --- CLASSIC
1 May 2024
Zakhm is an alluring, emotional, realistic and humanistic film ever presented in Bollywood screen. How Mahesh Bhatt presents the ugly side, the ignorant side, the simplicity of human nature could only be praised by calling it a maestro's job. His direction is clean and serene, leaving aside the nonsensical and mood destroying tones, themes and statements. He beautifully crafted the progress of the film, progresses from known to unknown and then to the disclosure of the mystery of the film. His direction is equally gripping, engaging and satisfying throughout. A just simple one word for this film ---- CLASSIC

Zakhm is about a family which was founded based on humanity, based on trust and based on love. This was not detailed but only referenced throughout the film. But as always there were people who oppsed such union. The film showcases the aftermath of the family where the two sons of the parent grows to be matured adults but one of them is ignorant of his mother's secret. The secret was soon disclosed by his elder brother but the suspicion comes to play, the factor of disbelief that gets close enough to shatter their brotherhood. Through a series of dramatic chitchats and quarrels finally the elder brother saves this relationship and takes the lead in fulfilling his mother's last wish.

Zakhm, as per my personal opinion, stands as the best film on religious dogmatism and politics on religion. Such a sensitive topic needs a brilliant director who could tactfully present it for people. M. Bhatt just proved his worth through this work. It will be one of his best, apart from Arth of 80s. He very cleverly pointed not only the political agendas behind the so called religion but also the innocent and ignorant people blindly succumbing to those agendas. The technicals like performances and BGM are all brilliant. Ashutosh Rana as the politician and Ajay Devgan as the peaceful protagony are to be remembered for life. The songs are soulful and still beautiful.

Summing up this film is not just for entertainment but for experiencing the truth and reality of the social constructs. It is recommended for all by all standards, to be watched as a serious film. Being a national award winner it is rated only 7.9. A resurrection needed for this film with a rating of atleast 8.5. On a scale of 100 it would be a 97.

Drishyam 2 (2021)
10/10
What a thriller !
30 April 2024
Drishyam 2 is an excellent sequel, continuing from Georgekutty's family saving attempt, finally ending satisfyingly from all angles. Here Georgekutty's fear comes to life and he deliberately struggles to save his family once again. This time too, all the civil servants of nation loses with an 8 fail cable operator. They were all one step perhaps 5 steps behind him. He thinks, plans, rethinks and executes his plan strategically controlling all aspects of the case. Georgekutty's character is perhaps the most brilliant character ever presented on Indian screen. Mohanlal about 60s bought out that trait in screen exactly as it should be. Love this film.

Technically the film is also perfect, proper scores, proper narratives with perfect timings and covering loose ends throughout without any significant flaws. The reality of human nature, of government officials are not compromised at all, which makes it easily appealing to real lives and so is impressive. The film's storyline is brilliant too, depicting how a common man could be so great mastermind behind a plot for saving his family. He is the culprit plus he is the innocent at the same time time, has a double life and a single life too. What a thriller !

A masterpiece in brilliant film making. The film also recaps Georgekutty's case just as an oral reference but with details clarifying confusion for the new watchers. All the performances are fine. And climax is applaudable. Recommended film and a straight 98 on a scale of 100.

Stripper Nurses (1994 Video)
1/10
Wha* the Fu** ?
15 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This film has nothing special. Only sex scenes. People mostly handsome muscled men doing sex, I mean wild crazy sex with some of the most sexiest slim not skinny tall white and of course beautiful women of film industry. There are other events like nurses serving people but ultimately the answer is sex. Nothing else. They all do sex in various styles, like men putting penis in women's assholes, licking assholes, putting penis in vagina, licking it, women's licking men's penises, women dressing in sexy dresses, opening them while dancing in order to arouse all and finally shouting AH AH while doing sex. They also lip kiss one another during the dirty act. Then the people talk to one another wearing clothes like decent guys maintaining the respectfulness. WTF ?? One women perhaps doing sex with more than one person ? Is this fun %%% ?

Wh** the fu** film is this ? This is a mo*** fu***** film. The creators of the film are really ******. So people should get horny ? Even real life people don't do sex like this. They don't lick assholes of one another and then lip kiss.

It is not at all recommended for family, not even with your spouses. Your spouse will perhaps feel disgusted while viewing this. Perhaps you could see it alone with no person to see you. This is not entertainment. Doing dirty things in camera is not entertainment. This is the destruction of humanity, human dignity and civic sense. This is prostitution upgraded. A straight 0 /100.

Ishq (1997)
6/10
Loudy and Funny
13 April 2024
Ishq is a good entertainer, with almost all genres mixed into one. It has romance, comedy, actions, drama, horror and a bit tragedy throughout the entire runtime. A good fun time entertaining film without compromising the loudness at all. The loud cannot be ignored which disturbs the mood if sitting for 2.30 hours, which is the film's length. That what bothers, due to which it's a 6/10.

Aamir, Ajay, Juhi and Kajol all acted well. Kajol is a bit matured than the rest who takes the lead in serious tones throughout. Ajay Samir and Juhi absolutely bought out the teenage restless lovebirds traits to screen. They also did preety good in acting the vengefulness traits of young lovers. Kajol is good as the victimised poor girl, Aamir too as the protagony who defends the poor against injustices of the rich. The comic plots are spotlight for the film and it will be remembered for that purpose. The dramatised parts are also good has a message imbibed. The message of parent child relationships, the futility of wealth in building relationships etc. The presentation is also fast, not serene.

The story is good too. With some of the comic memorable scenes and horror themes the film presents the story of two poor people falling in love with two rich people. Then the troubles and adventures begins, which involves heartbreak, friendship being shattered and trust being broken. But like usual fun film it ends with an optimistic note where families and friends being united again. For all its flaws and entertainment it's a 59/100.

Oppenheimer (I) (2023)
6/10
One time watch.
29 March 2024
This time Nolan's narratives of non linearity, a lot of jump cuts and lots of political reality doesn't seem engaging, doesn't fit properly. Oppenheimer's narratives should have been like memento, a serene based linear presentation. Reverse narratives would also been fine but let it be reserved for Memento. This style of presentation tunes well with the non fiction. And also the movie is 3 hours long, with no such interesting themes. Just plain biography that misses the Nolan's spark, as evident from his previous works. The music is average though. The acting is nothing to be mentioned about. Murphy, Blunt, Pugh, Matt, RDJ all acted plain misses the emotions. Acting in Nolan's film is not a spotlight. Generally technical aspects weighs heavy in Nolan's films like intelligent script, lighting's, narratives etc.

There is nothing to mention about Oppenheimer's true biography. There is one thing praiseworthy though in the film, few characters are impressive. Just like pugh as the communist who is irreligious, has sex while reading the Bhagawat Gita. Scientist Oppie is worldly, devoid of social friendly religious traits, inclined towards politics, which still makes nukes a political agenda. His world is also shown as the same. Scientists like Einstein and others favored negatively to Oppie's work and so on. On the other hand a lot of political chitchat with no such emotional appeal, with no interesting subplots makes this film at best boring. Nevertheless Nolan's experimental attempts is good, but not the best example of biographic film. Just average for all the great casts working together.

Some scenes falls flat though. The explosion of A- Bomb is not shown real, even the Indiana Jones showed properly the nuclear blast. But it misses this. Another, When oppie says he feels blood on his hands the president takes out his white handkerchief and says the most boring statement. I thought the president would have told Oppie to rub his hand. So, there are such types of scenes with some dull moments. Really wanted the details of Oppenheimer's personal life, in order to understand the moral qualms but it did only half. Summing up, Nolan's full spark is missing this time. A one time watch. A 64/100.

Delhi Belly (2011)
4/10
Below the belly !
8 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Delhi belly is a modernized flick, with a cliched storyline, stylishly depicted characters. The style is heavier than the contents and actual traits of the characterization. The film is made boldly surpassing traditional norms, like indians beating up whites or sexuality. Mostly the characters speak in English as if they are in UK not in India. The romance theme is not love rather passionate one, imbibing the sexual flavors though not explicitly shown, except the kissing scenes. The songs doesn't match with the characters at all, with the language and the entire set up. The film in total doesn't appeal to Indian soil at all, especially the Delhites. It may appeal to some of the west but why would they care for such cliched collection of events ?

Is Imran Khan an actor ? He shouldn't act at all. Just staying focused on camera emotionless is not called acting. Even the camera works failed to bring out his character to screen. Performance wise Vijay Raaz is good, gives the feel of Indian hooligan. Others are average. The western score behind felt nothing more than average. It tried to be pristine and serene which was well done but it missed the originality and depth instead. The script however was well joined.

The twist of the film where faeces are exchanged instead of drugs actually felt disgusting. It was supposed to be comic ? Why did the director extended that issue throughout the film ? It actually felt disgusts in extension. Though the film had potential, with a scope of technical opportunity but it didn't happen at all. It simply paced forward with nothing interesting and engaging. Just felt like below the belt film. Delhi belly is below the belly. A 40 on scale of 100.

A Sci-Fi Classic !
2 March 2024
Dune 2 is perfect as the sequel. It is equally engaging, stylish, serene and deliverer of exqusiteness in narratives. A twisting climax and well made plot, perhaps will go for part 3, only will then make sense of the entire story from part 1. Waiting for part 3 which I feel will be optimistic in whole. But don't miss its prequel, it's a recommendation.

The acting is good, with all performers giving their best that creates unique characterization in sci-fi set up. The technicals are top notch, Hans Zimmer especially. His work in sci-fi is unquestionably perfect, just above the world. Dennis Villeneuve too is one of the best upcoming director of Science Fiction genre. His works appeals to what sci-fi really stands for, the narratives and presentations are always appealing. An expected liberator from injustices in the exoplanet having sand as the elixir of life mixing with political issues, true love and and the bit- pieces of religious propaganda forms the storyline. The climax is not expected though but will make you think about the film. The special effects, the CGI, the action scenes are all amazing to watch. The introduction of the new antagony is good though, a kinda fearsome and truly evil.

Dennis Villeneuve's Dune is a franchise from Sci-fi genre that would rank similar to The Dark knight franchise in action genre and Lord of rings franchise from Fantasy genre. Summing up it's a brilliant film with stunning visuals, good storyline and impressive actions plus narrations. The book lovers must give it a definite watch. A 10/10.

Enthiran (2010)
8/10
Shankar is a Brilliant director.
1 March 2024
Enthiran doesn't have single dull moment. Every moment is brilliantly utilized by Shankar and covering almost all aspects of daily life making it a total sci-fi entertainer. As evident from Shankar's narratives the film is thrilling and engaging. It progresses as the robot being a tool in the hand of humans where Rajni and Danny being the motivator for good and evil. Their contributions have always directed Robot's action's. Love and helpfulness from Dr Vaseekaran and Destructions from Dr Bohra. Robot is just the innocent being, the worker who does practical works in real life. It is the motivator, the programmer who is all in all behind the scenario. The film ofcourse has scientific fallacies like Chitti being a humanoid weighing a ton has no mass effects in his action's. But the purposes of the film is to deliver entertainment, nothing else than that. So it's kinda justified.

Performance wise Rajnikant is the show stealer in all his roles. As a brilliant citizen, as a good humanoid, as the bad humanoid, as thousand copies of himself. Danny too shines as the father of antagonism which is evident from his famous roles in Bollywood. Other roles are fine without much to say. The technicals are impressive, again evident from Shankar's previous works that he never minds in spending millions while developing a film. And this time it's an AI based Sci-fi film. Just think about it's technical costs, about the CGI 's, about the actions in city, about set designs in various ceremonies etc.

There are some impressive scenes like explaining the reality of a humanoid in it's evaluation, robot becoming human through a mysterious cosmic thunder, idea of Robo- sapiens, the destructive strategies of self replicating, the innocent love of the good Robot and so on. Though the film is scientific still it touched meaningfully the dramatized parts of real life human issues like romance and betrayal, betrayal to your creator to be specific. Shankar has fantastically managed all these aspects in one film, well narrated and depicted. Not to say about the lead roles but about Shankar, he is brilliant. His attempt in Sci-fi genre is praiseworthy. Though it may seem Copycat of Robo's Act from Hollywood but still it stands unique in its content not only in Bollywood but also in comparison with Hollywood productions, esp the good bad conflict using the Robot. For Shankar it's a thumbs up. A 76 on a scale of 100 due to it's fast paced narration.

Iron Man (2008)
8/10
Iron Man becomes realistic in Favreau's film.
29 February 2024
Iron Man is a stylish, intellectually sensual, restless characterized film that tells the simple event of good vs bad with an inclusion of science and politics combined. Favreau has brilliantly depicted the idea of a superhero in as much realistic as possible. Iron man is engulfed in global issues like terrorism on one side and personal jealousy on the other hand. By showing how science could lead to both humane and evil ends the film have made a special mark in Marvel based films. You will be entertained and will be engaged throughout the film. Favreau, though depicted the very American tendency, constituting glam girls, successful millionaires, USA lordships behind terror fundings and exotic techies but still he correctly have shown the transformation that Tony underwent. How tony became reunited with rural peaceful minds, thought for them, understood the futile showy attitudes, contended by sitting on the floor or perhaps surviving on a cave with the help of an unknown fan etc.

There is no other imaginative villains in the film. Both hero and villain are Iron man, one is humane and other is not. Iron man is not a fantasized character rather a man named Tony Stark (Robert D. Junior) in iron suit brilliantly developed by a himself, out of desperation under various circumstances, who saw the terrible reality in the practical ground. He becomes confused about how his previous creation have brought doom to so many lives. This turns his table upside down and he changes, enquires about the reality, takes a reverse path from previously luxury based reckless life. He becomes humanitarian, tries to make a difference using his acquired knowledge, among all the multi billion dollar corporate minds and his glamourous society. This bought him insult and mostly unsupported by many, but his constant eagerness bought him to the reality. And he wages the final war, out of which he turns victorious. But his victory in the war is not as easy as bed of roses rather portrayed very real, which is a treat to watch. Robert and Jeff fits well with the role too as the hero and villain.

The chemistry between Mr Stark and Miss Potts is lovely to see. A decent affair, a relationship of trust from both is what perhaps gave Mr Stark the strength to choose his self rather than what others think. The scene 'Proof that Tony has a heart' and it's relevance to antagony's claim about Tony's 9th symphony are gripping zones of the film. The technical depiction of building the iron suit is included in the film which weighs heavy. Nevertheless there is scientific fallacies too regarding it, which actually doesn't matter because it's an entertaining film not a documentary. So some scenes may falls flat in respect to reality.

The humane representations of the film is what impressed me so far. I am not impressed by its visuals or CGI based technology or it's action sequences or even it's glamorous sensuality. Rather I liked the tale of a modern man in his 40s who at first enslaved by technology and materialism, then transforms into a practical human being, becomes a twice born guy and tries to do something for betterment of people. Simply put, John Favreau's have made a story of Iron man with realistic appeal, having practical and believable storyline with performances not the best but still good, well knitted subplots and edges of the script and BGM as appropriate as it could get, like glam and scientific vibes throughout. For me it would be an 81/100. An 8/10.

Sivaji (2007)
8/10
Rewatchable Entertainer !
27 February 2024
Rajnikant in Shivaji, brings out the Boss attitude, which is comparatively convincing than other of its contemporaries or its predecessors. A man in his 55s wages a war against corruption with all his accumulated wealth and knowledge. It is amusing to watch, relates to social corruption and national sentiments, infuses the whole plot through much needed Bollywood flavour of spiciness. Yes, the family warmth, the romantic touch, the ever famous friendly relation of Uncle niece in Indian context. The film also showcast the action thrilling sequences which satisfies the specific fanbases and fulfills the entertaining angles completely.

The film is about an NRI (Shivaji) played by Rajni Sir, who dreams of establishing an university in India, which provides free education to all, in all streams. It's a type of strong urge for every true nation lover who dream to make India a positive oriented and prosperous country, a kinda utopian setting in India but as you could guess it's not so easy in practical ground. With greedy entrepreneurs on one side and corrupt politicians on the other side, Shivaji's dream gets shattered and he is made broke. He is supported by none other than his uncle, who stands with him until the end. This is so nice to watch. The scene where Shivaji tosses his coin to choose either the tiger's way or the straight way justifies the succeeding conflicts, feels relevant in the material world. And hence the film progresses likewise. Shivaji chooses the tiger's way and takes unwavering attempts to defeat his foe, Adi. The fight continues with interesting ups and downs with finally Shivaji emerging victorious. The journey is depicted not so raw but with entertaining flavors, catches the attention every time it tries to fade. The director brilliantly chose not to add song items outweighing the film's plot, rather added appropriate BGM to reflect situational emotions.

The presentation is good, fast paced but clear cut, with no left out flaws. The actress is not strong rather of very weak character, still correctly shown. The action sequences are unreal though but exists only to add some comic and entertaining taste. The journey of war between good and bad is strongly shown with many sub plots from both sides exposing the different characters in different contexts. Lastly, Rajnikant's performance is bright which upholds the entire weight of the film. Summing, all these aspects makes Shivaji the Boss a rewatchable entertaining film. See it for that. The rating for this will be a 77 on a scale of 100.

Pitch Black (2000)
8/10
Interesting Sci-fi film.
24 February 2024
Vin diesel, the black dressed guy with black spectacles is appropriate as the convicted guy who silently observes everything giving the final say, retaining his mysterious nature. He is neither bad nor a nice guy but a lead in escaping from dangers of the universe, a world of man hunting creatures. The sci-fi set up is praiseworthy with Vin diesel as the exact cast. Radha Mitchell is also exact to the role fitting at the right place. It's basically a survival film with scientific atmosphere where Vin takes the lead. A well watchable film with action adventure and mysteries all tied together properly.

The film is technically good, good presentation, good acting with not much developed characters though. But still it managed to retain the Suspense, avoiding the details of the creatures, showing bit by bit to preserve the thrills. Vin's strategy is cool to watch in leading the entire group towards safety implying his good heart somewhere. He is also disturbed by the black sheep of the team as usual in other stories too.

The scene where there is pitch black everywhere and an attempt to illuminate the area through a lighter is one of the best to watch. The whole set up of the film with Vin diesel reminds of the 90s famous 'Hot dog' song by 90s Rock Band Limbizkit, fitting exactly the sci-fi settings and Vin with his round black spectacles with its hardline tunes. This is seperate from its BGM, which is average I feel.

The climax is shown as 3 people out of entire crew surviving the planet. Vin shading tears for the girl seems flawed as he is a type of hard guy with sci-fi mind and an event on far away cosmos with less survival rate. The statement of the believer aiming at Vin saying 'Here is my God' is praiseworthy reply, retaining both visible and invisible aspects of the faiths, respecting the orthodox and secular minds at the same time. The surviving characters are to be understood as the unbeliever, the believer and the little kid implying the innocent. A brilliantly developed sci-fi film with thrilling and interesting plot. A 79 on a scale of 100.

Stuart Little (1999)
6/10
Funny Fantasy Family Film.
11 February 2024
Stuart little is one of those movies which will charm you with it's innocence and emotions, will entertain you with it's funny sidekick characters, will drag you to an utopia where there are only beautiful experience throughout. But it's not solely based upon that, rather it also has the grief striking events, where one is seperated from the family like stuart, the little rat whose eyes was filled with tears while leaving his family. It was so emotionally intense that it will fill your eyes with tears too.

The lead cat is funny, resembling a character who is confusingly antagonistic but with time and influence of love, he too changes the side. The human characters are neutrally shown without any of good vs bad, which is only shown regarding animals. The final war, between stuart on one side vs the cats on the other side is interesting and treat to watch. The animal are funny to watch too, personifying different characters.

The storyline is simple, a decent family who adopts stuart as a birthday present to their son. Stuart, an intelligent talking rat who quickly adopts well with the family, but clashes with the cat. Through a series of adventures Stuart seperates but finally reunites with his family and also befriends with the cat, marking a happy ending. Technically the film is well presented, properly explaining all the events, well written script and serene narrations. BGM is used appropiately depicting emotions correctly. Though a decent Fantasy film, which partly appeals to reality, and partly in metaphorical sense, but still it's a good funny film to watch with family, more specifically with little kids. A 63/100.

Welcome (I) (2007)
7/10
Really comic !
28 January 2024
Welcome 2007, welcomes you to the really funny world of underworld Mumbai, where the most feared gangster Uday is tensed reagrding his sibling's marriage. He despite being an underworld figure wants his sibling marriage to be arranged with a decent respectable and well to do family. In such a serious tone, the BGM with desi beats of 6 measure adds the hilarious sense. Uday trying his hand in acting despite being ruthless, Rajeev turning into an astrologer for a moment, Vijay Raaz as the fake director, are some of the memorable funny scenes of the film.

Sanjana, the sibling falls in love with Rajeev, and then the twist starts to unfold. Majnu, younger brother of Uday who is perhaps feared more than Uday clashes sourly with Rajeev's uncle. But within that serious tone of hooliganism, majnu aspires to be a painter who paints pictures in the middle of road, even creating traffic without any sense of civil life. That particular character through various ups and downs progresses hilariously throughout the film.

All these issues complicates further when Uday and Majnu falls for the same girl set up by Rajeev in order to deflect them away from their illegal businesses. When all these intertwines, then suddenly their boss RDX appears and this becomes further complex when RDX's son appears in the scene. I will stop here and urge you to watch it, to get a full funny scenario, with lots of masks getting unmasked, lots of fake drama getting real and vice-versa etc, which finally ends in reunion of the whole characters involved in a happy ending. My favorite funny scenes are that of Majnu vs Ghungroo. The statement 'Sirf naam Ghungroo hai mera lekin koi baja nahi sakta mujhe' still retains the fun flavor in 2024. There are many such kind of....

Welcome is really a comic film that intends to deliver a fun time with different types of funny traits all combined into one. It well succeeded in its attempt, though some songs were not needed I feel. The romantic songs weren't important, but of fun scenes. Some scenes were also not funny either rather serious but as a whole it is well made family watching funny film. A 71/100 based upon it's merits and flaws.

Babe (1995)
8/10
Liked this film !
22 January 2024
Babe is fully an entertaining film, where the lead role is played by a pig. He talks and lives with other animals, in the farm of a man, who rears animals as his livelihood. The man also manages sheepdogs, who takes active role in bringing the sheeps into their home from grazing. Babe dreams of becoming a sheepdog, as there were competition held for sheepdogs along with their masters. The only positive trait that babe possess is that of humility, respect and kindness, a loveable and emotional characteristics is bought to life in the form of a pig. Due to that he succeeds in winning the hearts of his fellow farm animals and does the unthinkable in the end. Yes, he takes the place of a sheepdog and becomes the winner in the competition. The film may not seem realistic but is entertaining with lots of fun and comic themes.

The film has two perspective going parallely, one is human-animal dealings where animals stay dumb with respect to man. Other is animal animal dealing where they speak with one another. It actually implies the personification of animals, as if they live with the same type of rational spirit, it is of course ambiguous but still may be true or may not be true. But it's made like it connect right with our emotions. It's a lovable film watchable with family.

The owner even once tries to consume babe out of desperation, but out of sensibility, decides not to. Babe seems as if, in turn brings him the prize and respect in the competition. The film shows us in an imaginative way how the animal world works, a kinda similar to man's, how animals are trustworthy when given love and care. It is one of those films which shows the positive sides of an animal farm. Personally, I too oppose animal harassment, support animal rights.

The film is funny, positive, a bit metaphorical too in the sense where animals are personified as sensible beings, marked by serene narratives and avoids all sorts of violence. Though it's a bit fantasy themed, I liked the film, really liked it and still in my memory. For its entertaining value it's an 8/10. A 79 on a scale of 100.

Dushman (1998)
6/10
Kajol act is superb !
21 January 2024
Dushman is a story of a young girl who avenges her twin sibling's murder with the help of a retired army officer. The plot though sound simple but is not so in really, because it is like memento where the protagony is weaker than antagony. Dushman is a precursor to Memento having the same interesting set up of hero-villain, mixed with usual Bollywood emotional themes and songs. I heard that it's an adaptation of foreign film 'Eye for an Eye', which may not be exactly, but is significantly different too.

The acting of Kajol is applaudable, double part of both long and pixie cut hair. Both( Kajol and the retired army officer) unites through various circumstances and he agrees to teach her to defend herself, which ultimately leads to avenging her twin sibling (Pixie haired Kajol). Though the real set up of environment is neglected because the emphasis is on the content, which is good, a lady successfully avenges her sibling murder through episodes of rigorous training, fear, violence and blood gore. But the realistic appeal is left out in some parts of the film. The BGM is also used heavily, without giving much thought on its outweighing other aspects. But the thrill is sustained in the film. The songs are also well placed.

Due to this, the film though had a potential plot to contend for being a great film, but didn't get executed likewise, stands as an average psycho thriller. Ashutosh Rana is great as a psycho, as the fearsome character who even lies convincingly to the world despite succumbing to passionate crimes. Other casts are also well done. You could watch it for an average entertaining thriller with an optimistic ending. Kajol act is superb, as the last reminder.

A 62/100 for all its merits and flaws in total.

Michael Bay is good for teenage films !
15 January 2024
I was in the 2nd year of College when this was released and so could relate very well with all its sci-fi fantastical contents. From childhood onwards I have seen a lot of Michael Bay's films and almost all of his films carry the same tone, the tone of teenage spirit, the exciting rushness of doing this or that plus the teenage aspirations. Transformers 2 is also no exception. The only difference between this film and his rest is that of the topic chosen. This time the topic chosen is technology, yes electronics to be specific. All throughout the movie it depicted more or less the obsessive traits for electronics generally seen among teenagers. The statement 'If God created us then who created them ? ' in somewhere reflects well about it. The creator is ofcourse Hollywood or Michael Bay and his crew. When all these passion for electronics combines with the extra terrestrials, imagine the heat of restlessness, not to mention about Bay's likewise much needed intellectual cinematographic appraisals, action cuts and splendid visuals.

Transformers 2 is a well thought out plan as a sequel, where exciting level is at a high zone, characters all been possessed by the younger traits, reflecting their thirst for genius attitude, lacks the serenity because of sudden appearance of wisdom oriented science in one of the most beautiful and happiest places of USA. Bay didn't stay confined in it rather included the wonders of the world like the great Pyramid, the place where spirituality is preferred higher than technology, at least in modern times. In climax all these creative aspects of High scientific truth, religio-political scenario, the wonderous landscapes with ancient myths fuses into one in the desert where Bay even remembered to point the resurrection concept. The seriousness within the film in some scenes well reflected seriousness but most are not like that, rather are funny. Only Autobots and Decepticons are serious in the film, nevertheless the film has strong logics behind all the tiny situations going around. But a few has flaws like Sam entering the security of Egyptians police etc, whichyou better ignore to enjoy the film.

Technically the film is awesome, impresssive camera works, stunning romance and action, with BGM at an average. The performance of Shia la beouf is enough to entertain you, atleast I would say he saved the spirit of the film. My most favourite funny scene is that of where one character says 'A place of peace, - Shut up Grandma', and serious stuff like transformation into futuristic gadgets. For an entertaining film like this, I have written the review a bit seriously but you don't need to be serious, neither you should expect seriousness from this movie. It's a total entertainment film with tiny bits of almost everything you could think of, family friends, science, faith, myths, action, romance, politics, cars, women, sacrifice, extra terrestials, good, bad etc. Though I liked it, I reserved it for specific moments, not for genuine experience, due to lacking the serenity of progress but rather for getting relaxed and fun. A film satisfying teenage fantasies combo into one, intended for entertainment only and I was entertained in the 1st-2nd watch.

A 7/10. A 73/100.

Strange film !
1 January 2024
The film is strange, well made but isn't free from flaws also. It's a film of a world where darkness reigns at max, like hitman killing people, police officers involving drugs, common people lives involving drugs and dysfunctional lifestyles, uneducated themes etc. It's all dark but the camera is used with illuminating light, which makes it unappealing mostly. Leon is about a hitman who comes in contact with an 12 year old girl and develops complex relationship. This relationship changes him, changes for the better actually. He gradually takes the taste of life, which is actually true between father and daughter. But leon is not her father, a kinda father figure but not father. It seem optimistic highly but will make you feel unreal also. He becomes attached with her and feels the impact of sentiments. He becomes human but this transformation has a reason behind which finally takes the ultimate toll on his life. That reason is the saga of revenge fof mathilda's family.

The technical aspects are well executed like the script which progresses logically and good work has been done to bring out the characters to screen. But the BGM seems to be of issue here, it is used heavily on the first half. The sexualized part of 12 year old girl with leon made it very strange, very confused now to recommend this film. I understood it, it means mathilda's upbringing was done in a dysfunctional family. The characters may be real individually but as as an aggregate it is unbelievable. The whole plot involves killings and training to be a killer but does it all appeal in real life ? It may have in someway but the lighting should be used in a dark fashion to intensify that reality. Tony felt like the true hero of the film, who didn't exploit or made mathilda engage in any other work, rather he used leon's money to send her back to school. That's real hero in real world. But the film is not about Tony, it's about Leon. The set of the film with BGM seems like an arab world suddenly and uniquely appearing in USA.

A film well made technically but will be called a film nevertheless, not a real experience. I abstain from rating it due to its dark content presented in a brilliant way to be accepted by society. But that doesn't appeal universally for all. Is this film made only for the French ? Are French like that ? A strange movie in all.

Apocalypto (2006)
6/10
****Average flick ****
5 December 2023
Apocalypto is a survival film directed by Mel Gibson, who have made the brilliant Braveheart. This film though is impressive in visuals but lacks a rigid characterization. It has the power to captivate the minds of viewers through its spellbound scenes ; like those of tribal lifestyles, the natural setting, the war scenes, the sacrificial scenes, the survival strategies and the thrill involving throughout the plot etc. But it is really difficult to connect with those technical aspects in a movie for long time. You need some real base upon which one could relate well to in life. In such aspects the film lacks the substance. There is a storyline involved but is shadowed by Gibson's technical expertise. The narration sometimes gets draggy without much content to sit through, one may lose interest in it. I saw it once and could see it again only a few scenes, not the whole film.

The acting is nothing much important in the film, it is heavily neglected, emphasizing upon the presentation of the film. It succeeded in it's intention too. The film is still remembered for its precise visual details regarding the forest and the survival strategy, also notable for its gory details. The gore themes are selected for depiction, perhaps to give a deeper feeling of Wild. But that's not brilliant narration. It implies expert cinematography.

Summing up , I feel it's an average historical action film with survival themes. It will definitely entertain you the first time but not sure about the 2nd watch. A 6/10. On a scale of 100 it would be 64.

Room (I) (2015)
1/10
Bad Execution !!!
3 December 2023
The rating is unbelievable. 8.2 ?? Okk.

The plot is about a mother and a son trapped in a single room without much connetion with outside world. Their kidnapper is a man who kidnapped the mother and forcefully impregnates her. The child is born and raised in that room only. After a brief period of interaction with all three characters the child escapes and so the mother. Then comes the societal attitudes towards them, esp their parents. They won't accept the child because he was born out of rape and so on so forth. Lastly they accept them and credits rolls.

Honestly speaking this movie is not a type of those flicks that should be in 8.2 category. It doesn't have the character study, lacks the indepth depiction of such a strange but true incidents. The acting is plain and raw, lacks the emotional appeal. The horrific tale of confining to one room for so many years didn't seem big in the movie itself, it felt like normal, shown normally without much intense shots or statements or subplots. In a word the disappointment is about the execution. While the plot seems good one, listening to it simply, will arouse your interest. But the experience of the film will make you dull and loosen your attention. A potential plot not done well, is all about its review. For the story its a 1/10. On a scale of 100 it would be 13.

A Separation (2011)
8/10
The ending is critical !
2 December 2023
A seperation is an Iranian film made by Sir Asghar Farhadi. Technically it is good, well presented events of an Iranian couple struggling with various family issues. This presentation makes the movie a universal themed one, worthy of watch for the international community. Though the film progresses fast and neglects the steadiness still it manages to point clearly the reality of human lives. The acting feels very unemotional, raw and plain, like simply reading text from script, lacks the brilliancy in it. The plot is good though, may be a bit complex with many characters involved but have relationship significance.

The significance is that the husband and the wife decision to seperate is perhaps not accepted by the nature. So, the husband faces troubles during such decision. The wife has to intervene in order to save him from those troubles. And she finally succeeds in saving him. Then they face the final issue, the decision of their daughter, which remains unclear until credits roll. This means human's decision to do something may or maynot be executed if not in line with nature. So the title of the film practically, A seperation never actually happenned. They remained with one another through various ups and downs. Though the ending is made critically still from the narrative mood it could be understood about its positive ending, ie finally remaining together.

The film have brilliantly depicted the divine issue amidst human lives and where humans makes mistakes and how the Lord helps. It is actually the deeper meaning of the film which may or may not be accepted by many viewers. An 8/10. An 84 on a scale of 100.

12th Fail (2023)
7/10
Good film but 9.2 ??
1 December 2023
An optimistic movie in all aspects, from educational background. From clothing to setting everything is attempted to be realistic. The acting and scripting are also well done, but with a compromised tone. The story chosen is UPSC based, but it is entirely not about civil services. It's about honesty and struggle for good being, fused with a love story. The director strongly depicted the positive attitude of Manoj in his struggle. Had Manoj failed the exam still he would have made his family proud in one way or the other. And that's due to his positive behavior.

Optimistic traits during hard times is what we all need in our lives, manoj character has showed that among his IPS prelims exam, during his father's visit and during his relationship issues. It inspires us to be positive in life more than succeeding in a civil service exam. I don't know about the preparation strategy, about the right attitude, about truth of real IPS Manoj Sharma, about his marriage and job but the film has delivered some positive vibes which is why I would say good about it. Optimism is socially acceptable.

Perhaps the film intention is not to accurately describe the real IPS guy rather to use that character as a medium to inspire students and aspirants how to stay motivated and positive in life. The phrase "Haar nahi manunga" reflects that. It's that positiveness which inspired his girlfriend to stay with him whether he succeeds or not. Technically the very final interview scene is also correctly shown. Manoj is shown to be naive in the interview. That's how 1st time interview takes place, with flaws and nervousness. Despite this he is lucky to be selected in the UPSC. Perhaps this could be explained by the presence of his fiancee, which could be interpreted as the so called luck. This is also true where govt jobs in India is based upon luck upto a certain level.12th fail relates well to those who aspires to be a non corrupt citizens of the country. It's a no nonsense film of mindless comedy and themes, rather a visual experience of motivation and positive inspiration for the aspirants of the same.

The civil service environment and its knitty gritty are not fully detailed, which may be pointed out by some. I feel it's intention is quite different. The film goes fast pacedly and very rooted to Indian soil in its story and presentation. Though I will not say it's a masterpiece but still recommend it to students. It's a good film satisfying the romantic urges of viewers alongside the studious urges of the students but stays a bit far from being a classic.

For those reviewers who rated it 10, I will urge them to write a few similar quality reviews for films like Pyassa, Naya daur, Chalti ka naam gadi etc. 12th fail rating is 9.2 due to highly paid reviewers. The quality of reviews itself speaks the money behind it and on the other hand the masterpieces of 1950s are getting lower rating gradually. So do something right for your country atleast for art sake.

For this film it's A 7/10 and a 69/100.

One of the great realistic horror films ever made.
13 November 2023
WHTBJ is a film of pessimistic theme. It ends in doubt. It doesn't clarify the ending, may be good or may be bad. But the runtime of the film is all about misunderstanding, about jealousy, about revenge for no valid reason except personal vengeance and about fear. The film is excellent in show casing the sentiments of fear, how one sibling could be so brutal with another, how one sibling lives her life in fear for an uncertain amount of time. The film just excels in all these aspects. The fear and brutality is outstandingly depicted, without compromising the characters. In summary the film is pessimistic though and the contents are mainly about negative relationship between two siblings. It ends in one sibling getting attention by the police and the other lying in sand without any references to whether dead or alive.

So I think personally that it is one those films who have succeeded in showing realistic horror theme in movies. A masterpiece, so to say in real sense. We all comes across such horrifying situation in lives and this film reminds us of those fearful moments. The film goes upto the extent of extremity in such fearful moments. Technically a well made movie, progresses in a fast pace connecting every characters and its dialogues in a proper manner with no loose ends. Both Betty and Joan are excellent in their roles. Other casts are good too. The films doesn't go directly from childhood issues to adults, it slightly refers to childhood and jumps straight to the adult lives citing reasons for jealousy. This indicates the may-be imperfect narrations, nevertheless it makes its narratives clear, doesn't lose the grip of the flow of events, captivating the viewers.

Though a 1960s B&W film still has dark but realistic appeals and shouldn't be looked down upon by today's generations. Summing the film is worth watching if you want to connect yourself with realistic horror theme. A horrific tale of sibling rivalry and the unbelievable but may be true output of such psychotic behaviors. On a scale of 100 it is a 98, putting under the pessimistic collection.

Sarcastic and Satirical !
6 November 2023
This is one of those films which is both comedy and tragedy at the same time. Its contents are funny and ending is tragedy, which of course remains non influential because of it's heavy comic theme. It's sarcastic and I would say it's the best among many such attempts from Bollywood, a satirical in the sense that reality is voiced through comic themes. The acting is natural, comic performance flowing naturally from the casts esp, Nasiruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapoor. Other casts are well done fully support the comic set up of the film. The script logically advances, without much spicy themes and BGM doesn't shadows the narratives which is impressive.

The characters are all believable. The plot is about a few good honest guys clashing with a few dishonest bad guys and in a series of funny circumstances a climax is reached, which is good guys are finally the bad ones and bad one are finally good. The corrupt guys working parallel with intelligent antagony and how they all selfishly turned things towards their benefit is strongly shown. The depiction that media is not to be trusted and lie in the line of corrupt world is impressive, considering it's 80s. The journey is hilarious but with a strong pessimistic message at the end. My favorite scene is - Aapne kabhi kisi ko mara hai ? Park me ? Jhariyo ki pise ? That's still funny.

The acting are dramatized but a few flows naturally. Why is this sarcastic ? It's because I believe it showed the victory of the liars persecuting the innocent but in a satirical way. Naseeruddin confronting Pankaj Kapoor about murdering is one of the best comedy scenes in the film, among many like the bomb scene, the Kurukshetra scene etc. Under pessimism this is a classic film with a little bit of suspense flavor spreading all upon the film. Om puri is nuetral, a drunkard role, with BGM retaining the suspense flavour throughout. A special and convincingly comic film from 80s. A must watch for Bollywood fans out there. A 9/10. A 94 on a scale of 100.

A pessimistic History.....
5 November 2023
Bhagat Singh films are popular in India. But R. Santoshi's film is a classic. It depicts the character in the light, as a hardlined patriot, as a young Indian who dreamt of freedom that has universal appeal, as the fearless revolutionary who was unafraid of injustices, as what Bhagat Singh really stood for. It also has an intensely emotional appeal, implying how Bhagat's life has impacted his friends and families, how true nationalism influences the average psyche and so on. The BGM is highly praiseworthy in this respect. The songs too are all brilliantly chosen and arranged well within the film.

Ajay Devgan is true to the role, no other could have done it better than him. He genuinely bought back the famous revolutionary to life with his emotions and expressions. Other casts too are satisfying. The film portrays the biography of Bhagat Singh in brief but the significant aspects of his life. It also honestly portrayed why we Indians fail as an united community ,our flaws, our natures in full exposure. Bhagat Singh really dreamt far too ahead of his time. The society perhaps was not ready for his ideas, the ideas of true socialist society, a place of equality amd freedom. The war was between socialist vs capitalist in true sense. But Indians voted for capitalists which failed to bring equality in Indian society. So it was Bhagat on one side as a minority vs majority on the other. His failure doesn't mark an end but set an example of the long conflict between true justice and false one.

Concluding this movie is a must watch for its patriotic tone and remembering the famous revolutionary. His last statement prior execution is still a insightful one about his own struggle and aspirations. He said ---- "Neither I fear execution, nor I believe in God". He was hanged along with his accomplices. The film is a true portrayal of a biography which lights up the significance of a patriotic character like Bhagat, fully emotional about one's own country. Though pessimistic in theme it's a must watch for all Indians, and also for knowing the freedom war of 1940s India.

A 10/10 and a 97 on a scale of 100.

DragonHeart (1996)

Worth watching, for Kids
28 October 2023
Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery both are applaudable in it. A warrior knight undergoes the adventures with a dragon, that has been for ages since the ancients. This adventure depicts the tale of friendship, belief and sacrifice. The knight's student ie the prince of his kingdom being the antagony is helped by the Dragon. In fact the dragon gives half his life to the prince. This created a problem. It implied the dragon has to sacrifice himself in order to eradicate the evil prince. And that's what took place in the end, atleast for betterment of the world. It perfectly explained how dragon's are non existent in today's world.

Technically it's impressive too. Good visuals and creature developement. Well to do storyline with good narratives. It's basically a fantasy based adventure film involving dragons that well satisfies the kid's imagination. I too watched it in my childhood and I loved it. The ending may trouble you but don't forget it's just a fantasy flick. An 8/10. On a scale of 100 it would be 75.
