The Forest (2017)
6/10
Engaging at first , turns silly , ends badly
6 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(The review contains mild spoilers , general mentions)

The story is about the disappearances of some girls in a small French town.

The camera work, scenery, music and cast is all good. What is lacking here is the writing of some characters and the plot, which starts quite nicely, builds up a nice mystery but as time goes by, it becomes more and more silly. The female protagonist is the worst police officer ever , always sentimental, irrational and making idiotic decisions one after the other. In real life she would be off the case (if not fired entirely) by the end of second episode and I'm being lenient. That seriously affects the plot and takes away seriousness and drama, at times it becomes laughable and annoying.

Then we have the French teacher. She is all over the place, seeing specific things here and there in the forest , that are not actually there but are also never explained. It is also strange that every single piece of evidence the police has, she is the one who delivers it. In many scenes we waych the same thing again and again, we have her showing up in her motorcycle out of nowhere, takes off the helmet , says she must help, some police officer casually allows her to do so, because "reasons" , and then she runs off somewhere on the woods and comes back with a new finding. It is like the writers had no other idea of how to make the story move forward.....and there were ways.

There were many irrational and repetitive things like these.

One more thing that made the series seem of lesser quality was almost the entirety of last episode, which pretty much is the tombstone of the series. We are approaching the end of the mystery and the revelation of the "bad guy-s . Irrationally has completely taken over, with people of the law acting like they have not the slightest idea of what they are doing, to the point it is almost painful to watch. Then , we have the introduction of our villain. In most cases it is either someone we suspected or someone who seemed completely innocent to us, the audience, as well as to other characters within the story. In this case it is someone barely seen in previous episodes and that reduces the dramatic effect greatly.

All in all , it is somewhat nice to watch as something to pass the time , but have no greater expectations than that.

Sadly, Netflix did it again. Western -Tarantino wannabe
31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What started as a very promising western ended up being a mix of clichés, wokeness and cringe.

We have a revenge story unfolding, between the leader of an evil gang and an ex member. Somewhere there, here comes a town full of women. The first few episodes start building up a story, a mystery around the main characters, and those around them, to only end up leaving half of them hanging and the main ones , mundane and trivial instead of dark and full of meaning. Many scenes of secondary characters just to lengthen a story that could easily be half of what is.

Many inconsistencies and historical inaccuracies. In one scene "Mary Sue " women going about everyday life, next scene same women top notch shooters of various weapons. Many unfolding arcs about lost brothers, love stories and so on, leading nowhere after spending huge amounts of time to build them up. The story in the end does not make much sense .

Last episode was pretty bad. The fight was ridiculous.

All in all, it is watchable due to scenery, cinematography, costumes. Acting is ok and is some cases pretty great even. But the story as a whole is lacking , nonsensical and the pace really tiring, especially when you have reached the end and you realize for what you have been hanging on for.

Examples of the above (not in a particular order) : -Almost blind Sheriff starts off to hunt down the entire gang ALL BY HIMSELF. In the meantime spends time aimlessly wondering around and finds some glasses by chance.

-Marshall, pretty much the same thing but without the blindness thing.

-John doe coming up time and time again.

-Ladies sell off entire fortune for pennies, the dirty buyers pushed for this only to not be seen ever again.

-Sheriff's deputy showing off weapon skills only to be killed off right before the great battle.

-The gang was comprised of around 30 men but in the last scene we entire regiments getting blown to bits in a crazy shoot-out.

-The main villain was cruel and full of spark exceptionally in every scene BUT the last few who actually mattered most. His "family" getting killed off and he was spacing out looking bored.

-Women who were husband dependent up to a few months ago now are excelling in every aspect of life effortlessly (hunting, shooting, teaching , organizing, building etc) -In one small town in the old west we had a prostitute who was the wealthiest person there and who became a teacher, lesbians, interracial relationships, foreign citizens who marched naked in the streets for no apparent reason and other improbable if not impossible things for that era and place.

It is such a shame that Netflix keeps wasting good actors and stories in a miserable effort to combine all things for all audiences in the most politically correct way possible.

Resident why?
2 October 2023
Nothing about this movie except the name resembles Resident Evil.

You get a little of a mediocre acting, a bad casting , a little below average of a story, a few good creepy moments, a little mix from games 1 and 2 , a little bit out of the first and second installment (especially the mansion and police station scenes) of the original RE franchise with Milla and a little of woke culture and there you have it. A bad movie not worth to watch. That was not RE, these were not Clair and Chris Redfield, that was not Lion , nor that was Valentine nor that was Wesker. What an absolute mess.

I can only ask "Why?" when I consider the huge potential of the source material. This could have actually been a really nice first film of what appears to be an effort to reboot the franchise. Instead you get this thing that everyone hates.

When are they gonna finally learn ? You need to respect the source material, respect the characters' legacy and keep it simple. No need for small time creativity when that creativity tramples everything big about the story the audience loves.

If you want to be creative write a decent story with the classic characters or create something new entirely. Don't try to appropriate an already successful story's legacy with cheap efforts to provoke , appear original and sell your woke propaganda. Or do so, but don't expect a great result.

Silly, cliché and full time cringe
20 September 2023
The expectations were pretty low to begin with but boy was I in for a surprise. The show is trying to make itself to be another intriguing cop show but fails miserably. It is a sad mix copy of many shows we have already watched and loved or hated (mostly loved, which makes it worse). Two female protagonists trying to be the main partner couple we all must like but they are detestable and cringe. The jokes are lame, the macho attitude is super weird and ultra cringe and everything we see is like everything we have already seen in other shows with male protagonists but much worse. Unrealistic female to male scenes , too many slow motions at the wrong time and many typical clichés with cocking guns and faces turning on each other full of "meaning" in a bad effort to make the audience laugh or feel something. And we do feel something....but not what was intended. Each episode is worse than the previous one. Don't waste your time. "Spin off" they say. More like a ripoff.

Smile (V) (2022)
7/10
Creepy , scary , mind itching
19 October 2022
I had very low expectations about this movie but it was a delight. A strong horror movie with "It follows" vibes... but better.

Even though it got a bit predictable towards the end I cannot deny that it had quite a few nice scares in it. I enjoyed it more than any other horror movie I have seen for years. I wish we had more like this one. It made me look around in the dark in the following nights. It hits you right in the instincts this one.

The creepy smile leaves an image , a very distinct feeling in your mind. You become one with the protagonist and her emotions. You empathise and you start looking everywhere for a smile you do not want to see.

Watch it!

Mixed feelings , mostly cringe
23 August 2022
Watching Sabrina I'd say we are toe-stepping somewhere between great dark scenes and ideas, cringe , plot armour and woke culture.

The show has some undeniably strong scenes with really dark vibes. While I totally enjoy this aspect of the series I believe this is where the good things end.

The acting is mostly terrible. Unconvincing. Even the protagonist seems to not believe herself the role she is portraying. The dialogue and plot revolving around her , her friends , her bf and everyone really, is painfully cringe and unreasonable. And the worst part is it happens regularly.

Plot armour, every time something happens, even if it is a cosmic scale event that even the greatest of figures would tremble upon , Sabrina will find the most simplistic way to overcome or cheat her way through or someone will show up just in time to rescue her . Meanwhile she is claiming to be driven in the name of justice , truth and honest effort and talent, against all wrong doings which makes her whole character hypocritical and boringly unbeatable. There is just no way Sabrina loses.

Besides the acting and plot being silly , we have constant comments regarding the sexes, woman superiority and male unworthiness. It is to be expected since this is a Netflix show but still pretty annoying to try and push this woke agenda so hard on us.

If you take a step back from great visual effects and some good and dark ideas we are given a story which most of the time makes no sense or evolves in the most childish manner. It is a shame. We could have a story really worth watching.

Maybe I am getting too old for YAS?

Scream: The TV Series (2015–2019)
1/10
An anticlimactic cringe festival
4 March 2022
Two seasons of unfathomable cringe and lack of talent. Totally not worth a watch. I watched both seasons as it was the voted series to watch this time among my group of friends and I could not wait for it to end since episode 2. All of the characters are so horrible that it makes you rooting for the killer almost right off the bat. The story unfolds in a small country town in the USA with a "dark" history. It is basically a bad copy of the Scream movies with many unnecessary horror movie references. The main cast consists of a bunch of teen friends too old to be playing highschool students. The display of brainless activity , lies and general immorality among them makes you wonder how much effort did the writers actually put into the story so the audience can see the necessity for a killer. It is painfully laughable. It is repetitive , tiring with forced drama and complete absence of any real emotion. The killer is made to be a super know it all in order for the plot to happen otherwise everything would seem like a rollercoaster of crazy coincidences occuring one after the other.

Spare yourself the pain and watch something else.

Did I miss something?
6 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
-I was hearing all this noise around this movie and having not seen the older version of "IT" I came to believe that it would be something pretty scary. -But what was that? A small group of kids, running around, in splatter scenes, throwing adult humour all over the place and bad language....It was so confusing. I was feeling like I was watching a children's movie from a messed up producer. There was nothing scary, no tension, no anything... In many parts it felt like a bunch of random scenes thrown in together to hastily make a film. -And it felt kinda wrong the thought that the target group of this film was young...much younger than it should be.... -I am giving it a 5 out of 10 because it made laugh so hard!!I wasn't expecting this from a horror film(?).....

How could Clare allow this abomination? Insulting and painfully ugly!REMAKE!
25 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
-So this is the story of the Mortal Instruments, City of Bones, supposedly based on the novel. The story is about some fierce hybrid warriors, humans that share the blood of angels(Nephilims-Shadowhunters), the only way the Angel left allowed humanity to protect it's existence from dark powers. -The book focuses on certain characters during an era of what seems to be peace. But someone is pulling the strings from the shadows since long ago and action is set into motion by the villains and some random events. -A certain teenage girl gets dragged into the World of Shadow and crazy things start happening, revealing things about her and her life that she completely ignored up to that point. Jace,Alek,Izabell and Simon accompany her into this messed up turn of events and the adventure begins. While the book drags you wholeheartedly into a world of magic, young love and suspence the movie fails beyond any imagination/expectation. -Of course, noone would expect that it would be easy to pass a 500page book into the big screen and not leave certain things outside-and that would be understandable,I mean we have all watched Harry Potter,LotR etc and did not go crazy about it. But this movie....Oh this movie....has disgraced every bit of the book. -The story is different, things that have never happened in the book are there while other much more important things are either completely absent or totally twisted. The personalities of almost every character is changed and watered down so they lose almost everything special about them. Even friends who have not read a single line of the book could not feel any connection to the characters, sympathise or even understand certain parts of the story because things are constantly thrown in without any explanation. The plot was perforated and rushed, the romance between the 2 protagonists felt forced and was full of cheesiness, while in the books I could describe it as the definition of true and unfathomable young love. -Jace is supposed to have long hair and golden eyes, beautiful and fierce like a vengeful angel, with a tough personality, full of internal conflict and true kindness burried deep within and that was his charm. Clary was supposed to be fiery and stubborn but also sweet and fragile and we see none of that. Jace in the movie appears like a drug addict. The scene of the kiss was just making everyone feel uncomfortable. As for Valentine, he is supposed to be an older tall man, with great power and long blone hair, almost white,he is complex with a twisted sense of morality...And here is presented like an one sided thug who looks like Jace's elder brother with ridiculous outfit and short brown hair like he came out of some club in a backstreet in Brooklyn . Totally ruined!! -The crazy thing is they actually spent 120 million dollars for this production. Where was all that money spent on? This story held great potential. It could have been even greater than the Harry Potter universe. Now it's not even worth mentioning. -In the theater only 14year old girls seemed to enjoy it. The rest laughed and cringed the whole time with this pathetic outcome of a movie. -Why did they not stick to the original story? How could Clare allow this to happen? It is reasonable to care about money, she must have made a ton out of selling the rights for this movie to happen. But didn't she care at all about her fans, let alone her legacy as an artist? Despite how it pains me to say it, and it trully does since I fell in love with this story as soon as I laid my eyes on this book's first line, this movie was an utter failure and an insult even, towards all fans that supported the author. She should have known better. MAKE A REMAKE!!!

More of the same
21 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A typical "police" series...Repetitive,boring and with not the greatest acting one can find. It is good for killing some time, especially when you have nothing better to do. I mean most of these series are the same, criminal minds, csi etc....If you watch one of them is like you have seen all of them. But if you have time to waste or if you are under some control freak syndrom and "must watch them all" you'll probably enjoy it. One such series that did realy stood out for me was "The Mentalist"...It had something charming, something different that was not present in any of the others. As for this one now,you may hear some interesting psychological or medical theory from time to time but that's where the good part ends for me. The characters are not really likeable and most of them either don't really play a part or they alll contribute somewhat equally, which is kinda boring. Also that makes it kinda hard to help you connect with any of them. Last but not least, certain episodes end in a way that implies there is more to come concerning this particular story. Which does not happen, at least not any time soon.

A shadow of it's former self, what went wrong?
21 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
-So after postponing it for ages, I decided to sit down and watch the new episodes.I was looking so forward to it since the original d.gray man series was maybe my favourite anime series ever! -So I must say I felt a bit too disappointed with what I got after 7 years of hiatus. For starters the design's style is different and I would not call it an improvement. Characters were also changed and in most cases that was a downgrade. And the voice actors were also different. So all that nostalgia I was expecting to feel did not really happen. Because I was looking at what I used to love but at the same time I was looking at something else entirely. And the previous voices were so perfect for each character. -Besides that, the story felt so rushed. In only a small number of episodes we got all the answers(with plot holes though) that the previous series spend more than 100 episodes to leave hints for. So in the previous series there was an amazingly crafted plan to create tension and make the proper built-up.That did not happen here. -The characters had somewhat different personalities and we got to see very little of them.Lenally,Lavy,Bookman,Crory, the generals only appeared for a short period of time in all of the series. Like they were common houseflies. The episodes were more Allen oriented. No Komurin jokes, no Bakk jokes(hives exploding on his face when he got nervous),no crazy Allen eating sessions,no Bookman developments concerning their story and mission,no real Kanda's past info(they were scattered in a somewhat confusing manner) and backstory of Allen and Mana and the 14th was rushed and with many plot holes and Mana's desing was laughable. Noahs were also confusing and at times acting completely out of character.Made no sense. But I guess sacrifices for the sake of cheap drama and emotionless action, right? -Allen and the generals were supposed to be the elit , along with Lenallee's latest innocence evolution. Now, almost everyone seemed capable of desposing a "level 4" or fight with a Noah-even non innocent users- except for Allen who was constantly struggling(I guess they did that so it would seem more emotional and with greater suspence but it was not supported properly and it got tiring). And cross marian was just killed off right in the beginning? -The battles were more explosive and the design during their time was quite good but there was no feeling in them. The thing is they tried to make it so much more explosive so it ended up boring after a while. There was no power behind the strikes, there was no tension in the fights, no sense of real danger and forced tough lines. -Many plot holes like Allen's eye who would not spot demons, kanda's childhood friend was made into a demon and the soul inside him belonged to the lover of Kanda Yu's previous life, which made no sense at all. It would go against the rules of D.gray man universe.Noahs behavious especially Road and Tikki. Then we got another character appear,Apocryphos , who is supposed to be innocence but acts like he is pure evil. -I do not want to tire you with more details like pure dialogues and lack of character development or uneven pacing and focus on things that did not really helped the plot and of course the terrible ending and many other uncontinuities , even though I could go on. The thing is, whatever made this anime once great , seemed either to be watered down or completely absent in these new episodes. Which left me quite sad after I had finished it. It was rushed work and there is no excuse after so many years it took them to show it. They didn't even bother to make a decent edit concerning the soundtracks .Whether it played in the backround or not, was one and the same. No feeling at all....I missed so much that deep emotion that was present before, in the original anime series. I was happy to see more of my favourite characters but I just wish they had made a better job so I could actually enjoy it. As it is now, it was good for killing some time in a somewhat fun way and nothing more, I am afraid. And I say this feeling heartbroken. If there is more coming up, I hope they make it more like the original, otherwise I think it should end here.

Kids will love it....You will not! This was "United colous of super goofy"
21 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
-This could very easily be the worst spider man movie I've ever watched. For starters, this was more like super goofy! Forced jokes all over the place, a continuing silliness in every scene. And many many many efforts for antiracism. Was this spider man or an activist promotion film?So peter parker's best friend is a fat asian kid now,his high schooll bully is indian(flash) and an overall decent kid and student, his crush is african american and mary jane is an ebony(?) stalker, always following parker around and her name is "MJ for her friends" while her name is not Mary Jane at all? What?!And shocker is a useless white guy killed off by another white guy only to be replaced by another useless guy, but this time black!?And Parker himself is kinda redhead with freckles? -Besides that, the plot was weak, the pace was uneven and the story telling was poor to say the least, resulting in a cringy and kinda boring film. Spider man was goofing around all the time, he seemed extremely weak and useless. And that would be fine if they had not previously presented him in "civil war" as a guy who could fight captain america on equal footing ,and that while being able to afford more goofing around at the time. No continuity whatsover. As for story telling etc...look at the beginning: And here we have SPIDER MAN!!DA TA!...Of course we all know about spider man but shouldn't they show us how he got his powers? How his parents or uncle die?Especially his uncle's death was supposed to be a critical moment in spider man's character shaping. And what about people who have not seen or read about spider-man before, how will they know how he got his powers and what his powers are exactly?I mean, these things are pretty basic. And what about the villains?Do all trash disposal companies hire MIT graduates to get rid of trash and ruins or is it that easy for anyone to hack and modify alien technology and reshape it into human-style weapons? Another thing, his friend was such a genius at computers that could easily hack the high tech suit Iron Man gave him?Like that? And without Stark getting wind of it?Then we have Iron Man coming up and sticking together a boat while it's flooding and he just flies away like that? And what about his aunt? She was more like his older and smoking hot stepsister. Ans she finds out his secret like that? And I can go on and on but I thing you get the picture here. And what about Shocker? He is black now? After Electro who was also made to be black in the previous reboot? And I do not care about the colour of his skin. He could be pakistani for all I care. But there is no point presenting us with a story only to change it later for a political(ly correct) agenda. It is a matter of continuity.Black torch, black electro, black shocker. Are we looking forward to an all black hero and villain series so that people won't call you racist? Changing a character or story in general for that reason, is racist by itself. And to be clear on that, I am not racist.I like all people if they're nice. -Both after credits scenes were pointless even though the second one was kinda funny. -All in all, we have another Hollywood eyecandy, with no plot, no feeling behind the characters, a very weak and kinda unlikable protagonist and dull fights with explosive endings. It was good for wasting a couple of hours but this was not spider man.If that is what they make spider man to be from now on, I do not like it. At least kids will probably like it. What shame.......

A joke of a horror movie....FOR REAL!!
1 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Some friends invited me for a horror mystery thriller movie, so all fine by me.

But then, the film started.... This was no horror film. Most of the movie felt like American Pie having the naked scenes replaced with some serial killer slaying again and again the same person without any obvious reason(or any reason whatsoever as I realized in the end).

Anyway, the actors were not memorable. Their acting skills were okay. I guess they would seem as something more to a teenager and this is why I am amazed by the number of good reviews this film got. The plot moves along in a totally predictable manner. We see repeatedly the same day of a rich sorority girl waking up in the room of some guy who was kind enough to pick up her pieces after she got wasted the night before. Then she goes on her day and gets killed in slightly different manner every night. Then wakes up at the guys dorm again and everything starts happening again until she finally realizes that she is trapped in a triangle-like situation. The theme is one we know all too well,so nothing much to expect there(so much for the thriller and mystery). The protagonist tries to explore some ways of solving the "mystery" but drops them all really fast so we see pretty much more of the same with tiny variations, while she tries to act all scared and panicked. Each morning finds her more screamy than the one before and the in- the-mean-time- reactions make things a bit funny or cringy. Certainly not scary or thrilling.

The main problem with this movie is that it tries to pass itself as some horror, mystery film while it's a comedy- crime/light mystery, if it has to be called something. It's a total joke of a horror movie. And it would be amusing if it was advertised as such. You cringe, you laugh but you certainly don't feel any threat at any point. And that's understandable since you have little time to learn anything about any of the characters. What do we know? She dates and sleeps around, not surprising for a sorority girl. She gets scared when they try to kill her, but that's a normal reaction for any human being. After reliving the same thing over and over she decides to stop repeating her actions and explore other possibilities, so nothing really interesting here either.

In the end we had a movie with much more laughter than the amount justified for a horror film,no plot, not a deep mystery,in contrast to what we expected and no interesting characters. But we still managed to have some fun with this thrash dialogue film. Not really worth seeing.

Great film leaving things unexplained or just a good film coming out of piecing together many different ideas?
3 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I found acting and plot to be great,if not at times marvelous.Sceneries and visual effects were top notch! The idea of humans exploring space, roaming into the unknown, running into unpredictable and mysterious planets, stories or creatures has always fascinated me. And this film has a little bit of everything. It is interesting and fresh, while it won't only lose contact with the alien universe, but it will add to it.And this is what I love more in a good story. The cosmology/mythology behind the first installments. The beginning of everything, the establishing of a universe with certain "rules" if I may that will make it something more than "an original story from the before the 90's".

So we are given that,at least some pieces of it.Though nothing is unflawed. We have a nice intro and some agony pilling up slowly at the first and then it bursts out!The sad thing that many thing don't really make sense and some characters do things-to put it blunt- completely stupid, things you won't expect not only a scientist to do,but any reasonable human being. And yet there they stand, important scientists, chosen for a classified mission of great importance to explore the possible creators of mankind...And there are some in-continuities.

And let me elaborate... 1.When they first enter the structure they see David using the foreign spacecraft technology and no one questions what had just happened. 2.When they enter the contaminated hall no one got infected. The vessels started acting up,creating something like humidity at first and then something like a gray jell that was moving, like there were worms inside. Then,in the ship Prometheus when David opened up a vessel and came in contact with the liquid inside,he was holding a drop on his finger and it did not get affected at all while he was holding it.Why? 3.In the vessel room we see worms crawling on the ground. No explanation about them and I guess later they turned into alien-like snakes? 4.When they examined the decapitated head that noticed new cells and after some time it exploded. Was he infected before he died?If so,shouldn't't't a creature come out of him?Instead he was destroyed like the engineer at the start of the film.Yet in alien covenant we are shown that contact with the virus equals some strange thing exploding out of your body. 5.While the engineer at the beginning got infected and destroyed almost immediately, when Hollowway got infected it took him many hours to show symptoms. And isn't a scientist inclined to step up when he notices something's wrong with his body?In a foreign planet? With a great possibility of infection considering what they had seen already? 6.A snake-like alien entered one of the crew members body but nothing came out of him, just the same creature that entered a few hours ago....??? 7.All of the engineers in the ship are dead. From we are shown probably they got infected in some kind of accidental lick.Their bodies though were not destroyed like portrayed at the start of the film. They were opened up like something came out of them.If that's the case why some lose their form and some become carriers of "alien" creatures? And while many saw this from the crew no one cared enough to spare a comment?Apart from "let's leave"? 8.Two of the crew members are not on board, yet no one stays in the bridge to monitor things in case of emergency? And the next morning no one watched any footage from last night?Like, did they all this technology but thought to spare some memory space and not keep all that documented data? 9.Elisabeth comes in contact with the virus through her mate but instead of getting sick, she got pregnant with a weird calamari-alien egg machine creature? 10.She then removes the alien from within her and she appears in front of her employer and many other crew members, covered in blood and with a huge scar on her belly and no one notices?Or no one cared? 11.In the vessel room there are some wall paintings. In one of them there is a creature portrayed that looks like an alien. That means that this creature is no stranger to the engineers,in fact they seem to treat it with great respect or fear considering the drawings.Yet at the end of the film the last engineer gets swallowed by a form of alien completely surprised....And what comes out is beautiful and creepy, but not like the alien we all know. 12.The engineer comes to from a 2 thousand year cryosleep and he wonders nothing,he just gets back on his plan to destroy Earth? And since these beings are so far greater than humans in technology, and since this ship seems to be on an organized base of theirs, how come no one ever sought them out from their race? And we know that there are others from the next film.. 13.The alien that came out from the engineer was kinda small, yet the aliens we see in Covenant that come from humans who are much smaller in size than the engineers,as a result of the same virus, are shown to be so much bigger. 14.The two lost scientists in the foreign structure meet up with a weird creature. They do not fear it,no second thoughts,no scientific spirit of examination. They treat it like a stray dog and end up dead from it.At least one of them. The other suffered some strange mutation who made him mad but super strong,because....reasons? 15.What actually happened at the beginning?Did that engineer sacrifice himself in order for life on Earth to blossom or was that something else entirely?

I guess,if you look hard enough you will find more stuff like that, that do not add up or make any sense in a matter of continuity or leave things without explanation.I wish they had thought these things through.I liked the movie a lot but all these would satisfy my curiosity greatly.Sadly that is not the case.I was waiting for the gaps to be filled in the next film, but not only they do not fix the errors we see here,it is actually even worse,in fact beyond compare.

Kinda liked it but needed a lot more to compete with the game's story
26 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was not expecting much from this movie because Hollywood tends to take things that are brilliant and cut them down for "everyone's size".While that was partially true in this movie as well,I was not completely disappointed.

It took the base of the game, did not add many of the things that made it the miracle it was,but instead added some things in order to become attractive for people not associated with the franchise at all. That is the main reason this film could have been a lot better.

For starters, the animus was a completely unnecessary change. The fact that they gave our protagonist his ancestor's blades for the simulation was a totally Hollywood aesthetic thing to do and it seemed silly. It would seem silly even if I had no idea about the what I was seeing.Since it is a simulation, even if he was wearing a superman costume, would make no difference.

Secondly, why did they have to speak Spanish?I do not understand why they had to deviate from the original story.I would love if we had seen some of the known characters. And to be frank, sure a lot of people would go to see this movie, but the main crew would be gamers and fans from the franchise and the games. So why not emphasize on things these people would appreciate?

Third,we did not see anything of the first civilization or the creed's origins, nothing about the brotherhood's formation, ariarchy or purpose.

Fourth, the apple of Eden was discovered so easily and while it contains so much power, during the display it seemed like a cheap gadget that produces blue light only capable of impressing children.

Five, during the fight inside the memories, when the assassin hold captive the priest and the black knight had his woman, why did he withdraw his blade from the priest's neck only to stab him in the leg a few seconds later, ensuring, that way,the death of his comrade? Made no sense.

Six,we had no explanation,of what I can recall,of what was happening in Spain during that time and they throw some Turkish prince in the way out of nowhere. How did his father come to possess the apple and after getting it,why did the assassin just gave it away like that?

Seven, why did Spain always seemed like a windy dessert from Africa?Everything gloomy and dusty.Didn't seem like Spain at all.

8,no decent soundtrack. And many scenes had totally unfitting soundtracks like the one in the beginning with the eagle.

9.We saw no one in abstergo experiencing any of the side effects of the animus, only some silent men and women with grey eyes.

10,I do not think they know when and what desynchronisation means and happens.

11,many scenes had no sense like the scene where his father died or when, towards the end,he was seen by the daughter, she did not reveal him while she knew what he(our protagonist)was obviously going for,but after he killed her father she was all surprised and sad and wanting revenge...Like,what did we just see there? Also, why during the last assassination did he not stab the abstergo master in the throat like he should, showing the signature assassination move and just slit his throat instead? It was a letdown....

12.The assassin's costumes were so inferior to the one's in the game. The colours and weapons could have been much better.

All in all it was a fun movie to watch, with nice battle choreographies and action scenes but very superficial compared to the game's story. It made me think that the director had not played or read any of the games/books.I really hope they fix things in the next movies and do some proper research because this story has the potential of becoming a magnificent one..Otherwise it will be another Hollywood fail that no one will ever talk about again, after it's done it's course in theaters.

After watching this, suicide could be the answer
26 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe the worst movie I've been hyped to watch for a very long time!Bad plot, bad story telling, pretentious acting, over the top for no reason,a lot of completely unnecessary scenes and characters.

Most of these villains were pretty much useless, like captain b...Some could have made a difference but the dialogue and scenario was pathetic.Robin made a despicable Harley queen. After watching this I really cannot understand why so much fuss for the whole movie and especially for Harley and joker.

Silly lines all over the place, introduction scenes that meant nothing,no character development and the scenario was completely childish. So we are supposed to believe that the world was to be saved by a boomerang throwing mad man,a slutty dressed female baseball player,a samurai with bad taste in costumes and a crocman?

I did not like most of the characters but especially for Jared and robin, every time they appeared on screen, I honestly begged for them to die in some way so I would not have to suffer another minute of their horrifying acting and the terrible way the director chose to portray the joker and Harley.Totally pretentious and the romantic factor was the silliest addition one could make.

This movie ended leaving me sad and confused. My girlfriend even fall asleep!!(Go figure)...Sad because I was so hyped and expected so much more from all these characters. And confused because, how could such a distasteful movie have gotten so much hype and exciting reviews?? JUST HOW???

Joker was a big letdown and Harley even more.I guess that's why every irrelevant person on this planet loved her and dressed like her during Halloween.....Makes sense....

The good side is it had some decent visual effects and some nice explosions. Also Will Smith's acting was kinda nice but weak story line and dialogue here as well.Other than that it was a waste of time and expectations.

A real disappointment for a supposed gran finale
8 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After the fourth installment of the franchise I was really expecting more from this movie. And that is because the 4th one was so ridiculously pathetic that I thought it impossible for the next one to be worse.

Well,it wasn't worse,I'll give them that, but it was still disappointing. Kate looked really old and tired(old for a never aging vampire that is). And that supposed to be hardcore look, that was similar to a common fb duck-face did not help much into taking things more seriously.

Besides that, the visual effects were not living up to the expectations for a 2016 film. The wolves were not realistic and the endless gun scenes throughout the movie made me wonder where were all those bullets hitting, that we were supposed to be seeing having an impact on either a body or a wall or whatever....Like shooting blanks.

It was plot less with a silly scenario and many many cringy and totally uncalled for scenes...For example, the scene towards the end that Marius and David were walking towards each other will shooting at each other and then standing still, grunting and pushing bullets out of flesh and then brutalizing one another made the whole theater burst into laughter...And there were many other laughable scenes around this one.

Last thing, many plot holes....Michael had to come back some way,so it happened in a 25 second scene, the sacred place was put there out of nowhere, only to be left outside any useful conversation from then on.Selene was weak like a common untrained vamp while she was supposed to be the strongest vamp alive with super power blood inside her and so on so on.....

Nothing near the atmosphere and greatness of the first installments but still better than the previous abortion and at least we had a good laugh!

Another mindless Hollywood eye candy
13 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
So,no surprises here,we are watching Snow White, right?Well, guess again!!

King Nobody falls in love with a blonde woman who kills him on their wedding bed right on the next scene. She turns out to be Snow white's bad mother in law who is also a witch!!It appears she created a black iron glass army in order to trick herself in the kingdom. After she kills the king, walks like nothing has happened through the entire castle, opens the gate and lets another army inside to kill everyone, without being noticed by absolutely no one.How convenient!

She also has a brother who looks like a product of inbreeding. She keeps consuming young girls in order to stay young and only when she starts getting affected by her overuse of magic does the mirror tell her that all that is happening because snow white turned 18.

After that we have some run and chase moments and the introduction of a now wifeless drunken huntsman. From then on things do get a little better,we have some excellent visual effects and you actually start remembering that this is a fairy tale....But it does not last long. The dark forest is scary only because of some dark gas coming from mushroom like plants,so people basically get high and hallucinate.Trolls come out of nowhere only to disappear after they get tamed by a very indifferent snow white....Then the eye candy carnival begins...Butterfly flowers, animals, plants and trees all going a bit Tolkien-like,fairies and a huge male deer that blows up into hundreds of butterflies.

Of course we also have dwarfs but who cares with all that visual overload?Prince William disappears from the beginning of the movie only to appear again later, trying to save his old love. But in the way his character is displayed it's like he never came back.

Snow white eats the poisoned apple and dies.Prince William gives her a kiss but nothing happens. After they manage to get her to duke's castle and after a cringy monologue by the again drunken huntsman,he kisses her too.She wakes up after a while, with him being absent from the scene so we really have to love story here. Then, all of a sudden,Snow white gets all fired up and after a very long, awkward and cringy uninspiring speech, becomes a sweet little warlord and gets people killed just because the film has to move on somehow.

The visual effects is all that matters here in eye-candy kingdom!Acting, even by Theron is disappointing, battle scenes straight out of Xena and character development and dialogue are both lacking and tiring. What you get here is a very generic movie with nothing more to offer to the viewer than just a way to kill a couple of hours if you have nothing else to do.

This is what happens when Hollywood, which is all out of original ideas, tries to milk some old projects, aiming on the nostalgia of adults from their childhood's favorite stories and cartoons, but fails miserably. And it fails because apparently they do not understand the rules. You don't take one of the most popular fairy tales and turn it into a mindless battle movie with ridiculous lines and shallow characters, stripping all the beauty from it....or you do,trying to make more money and everyone hates you for it.WELL DONE!

Too loud,too explosive,too wannabe brutal......too disappointing
12 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I love science fiction movies and whatever comes with them. But watching this I must say I was expecting something else entirely.

Certainly from this kind of movie you cannot expect things to be deep, focusing on matters like the purpose of life but still you can make a serious film even without that. Here we don't get that.I haven't seen the first installment so I had set any standards for it to be met but it was still a let down.

The visual effects were top notch!Besides that, plot, dialogue, acting were poor and at times, many times, silly.People destroying spaceships without second thoughts, black warlords from Africa killing aliens with swords while people with massive weapons drop like flies, old geezers running around pants-less looking like some crazy cartoon scientist, all of Earth's defense gets blown to pieces in mere seconds and their great plan is to fight the enemy off with tiny air crafts...

I can recall more than 10 scenes that were supposed to be crucial for the plot, that were full of cringe and looked completely ridiculous.Like the scene where one of the two weird scientists dies and the other gets angry and at the same time an ace in targeting multiple moving enemies.Or like the nerdy glasses guy who every time he appeared he made the movie worse. It was like this character was from another movie which was being shot in the next room studio and he decided to drop by for fun during filming every now and then, without making any impact and having major personality crisis, becoming from Dumbo Rambo in a few moments.

There was nothing smart about this film. The character development was lacking at least!Thank god it was eye candy so you forgot about all those stuff for a few seconds until something more ridiculous would appear. It gets barely a 5 out of 10 from me.

Very good!!I was just expecting something a bit more serious
12 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
We all know what Marvel does best and that is super explosive movies, with cool characters and a great sense of humor. Here though,it may have gotten a bit too much.

We have a great cast and the action hits you right off the bat.The visual effects are something else. The only thing that seemed a bit pointless and fake were those seals everyone was making, creating a magic bright yellow kind of super complex polygon that in the end was disappearing without any impact at all.It seemed like they put it there just to show something fancy.

The main actor was excellent, the drama, the suspense were very good and the ancient one was very interesting. She died though in a very simplistic way, leaving too many questions unanswered.Instead of making the best use they could of her character-and with that actor on the cast-it felt like she went to waste a bit.

The main villain was good and mickelsen is one of my now almost favorite actors but the dialogue was a bit shallow and as a villain he was a bit weak.I mean Dr.Strange was only a few weeks rookie and he could fight him almost on even footing from their first encounter, killing or pushing off his followers.OK,Strange had a talent for it but the development was too quick, which means it was also too small.

It gets a 7 out of 10.I was glad I saw Stan lee and the two after the credits scenes. They hyped me up for good!I only hoped they would use humour a bit less.It kinda spoiled many great moments in the film, making Dr.Strange looking more of a goof-like character instead of a great hero or sorcerer. And the fight against the main villain should full of awe instead of laughter,it is a marvel superhero movie after all,not looney tunes fighting off some aliens in a basketball court.

Lights Out (II) (2016)
6/10
The creepy factor was present......but nothing else
26 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I was really looking forward to watching this movie and I must say it kinda let me down. The rumors had it to be one of the scariest movies of the year.

The concept is original and quite catchy. The beginning leaves you no room to sit around and chatter. It throws at you right off the bat, what you will realize to be,the main event.

Creepy figures in the dark, hollow eyes starring at the core of your soul and great visual effects that allows you no time to think if you like what you see or not.You immediately feel the threat and the cold shivers running down your spine.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere that is so easily established- something very hard with most movies-dies out and gets replaced by many chitchat moments and what was supposed to be jump scares,I guess. The villain of the film, this evil spirit is thrown at you again and again and again and after some point you just get used to it's creepiness. And what could have been great for jump scares or spooky atmosphere of anxiety, nervousness and horror is taken apart by blatantly put hasty scenes of forced to feel fear.No time and story between the parts, just family stuff.

It really disappointed me when I found out about the villain. They had so many options....A curse,an evil spirit with a grudge,a haunting,a spell by a deranged mother but no....It turns out it was the spirit of an overly attached crazy girlfriend who died during treatment in the mental hospital that the mother was submitted when she was a kid. After that, for no apparent reason, the crazed girlfriend formed a bond with the mother and returned from the grave,to forever claim her company by killing husbands and leading away the children....Yep,that is what they came up with!

The saddest part is the end. After many efforts to survive the spirit's senseless carnage, the mother realized she had to kill herself in order for the spirit to lose all connection to our world,so she smiled and killed herself in front of her daughter in a very unconvincing act.

To be fair, the idea was very original, the acting of some of the cast was good, the visual effects were excellent and the creature was as creepy as it could be!On the downhill,it lacked emotion in some places that to me it seemed essential, the rest of the cast was mostly "ew" and the story was also lacking. There was no depth in the background story,no explanations of the paranormal,no real ending. It was a bit rushed and superficial.

All in all,we have a very nice start with a lot of creepiness and a lot of mystery, but instead of answers and suspense we got more creepiness and some more of the same, resulting in a kind of predictable, boring and simpleminded film.Gets a 6/10 cause it was a decent effort, but had a lot of room-and need-for improvement.Even though I expected more from this movie,it made me stay and watch until the end,if that matters for something.

Hertbreaking return to the dreams, loves and innocence of old
17 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I want to clarify that this rate and review are meant for the animαted series Ao Haru Ride, with the 12 episodes and 2 ovas, not the live action movie, which I have not and intend not to watch.

This is a story of two kids meeting each other in their middle school.Through simple and clear scenes we are given the very essence of teenage love,at a platonic level. You won't see anything too sexy here.Everything's in the eyes.Everything is so simple yet complicated, full of innocent and charming insecurity. The bonds are being formed through the simple act of caring.Nothing too complex, just people who listen to each other and even if their experiences differ, they try so hard to understand one another.

Personally,it took me back when I was still a lost kid, insecure, introvert and lonely. It reminded me of the sweet nervousness you feel when your crush is near. Not knowing what to say, afraid of been perceived as a potato all the time, wondering about every word or gesture,if they had a deeper meaning than what you just saw or heard.Your heart racing when your eyes meet and your voice wavers when you think about saying something to express some of your emotions...It was unbearably touching.

They were just so sweet and that feeltrip was heartbreaking. You mainly see the everyday lives of a group of teenagers, but among-st that simplicity you discover precious flowers, bloomed only for your soul's sake.It doesn't show anything about being in a real relationship. It is more like a flirtation-ship.They are at the stage that they care deeply for each other and while being too excited to be together,no one really openly admits it.You only get hints, that only get more and more obvious as the show progresses.

You sympathize, you can feel their fictional little hearts racing when their faces come too close....So close that you can smell the kiss, you can taste, just barely,it's magnificence at the end of their lips, and then they back away afraid or anxious about rejection...So painfully accurate.

I find myself many times thinking about these old happy and simple moments, when you felt most excited about someone and most wanted at the same time, while nothing really happens between the two,in the physical aspect at least. Not in a relationship nor becoming physical, but the period between the time you first felt that sting in your heart, that weird thing in your stomach,up to the point of the confession. All that excitement....It is the very definition of youth, fiery and limitless, yet tender and innocent.

You don't see a single kiss, but you get so much more and that's why you won't find yourself bored even for a second. You see the persistent Yoshioka,a young woman,so thoughtful and sincere,so sensitive and kind and outgoing and warm trying so desperately to find her way through to the heart of a distant and superficially cold but deep down kind male, named Tanaka.Watching them discover one another while,at the same time, they are discovering themselves is something you can literally fell in love with. His past is surrounded by mystery and pain, things that have changed and scared the once wide open and kind Kid.Now he is feeling empty, struggling between the lessons learned from his pain and his feelings for his friends and mostly for the girl that entered his life like a storm, trying to break down his doors of secludement, freeing him from fear, guilt and restraint.

But what of an ending was that!??I really wish we get a season 2,even though from what I've read it's highly unlikely. One thing I did not like,is the emphasis given on the orange hair young man.Yoshioka had an accident, she fell down,he was walking next to her and she dragged him down to the floor with her.During their landing she touched his private parts. At first I thought it was another typical clumsiness incident,a thing for her friends to make fun of,a thing to make her face red,in order to give a good laugh. But the way they kept showing him in the last episode again again made me realize that this was not random thing.Usually these are hints implying something for the next episodes.Something bad for the couple to be.But since we got no continuation for this,we are left with nothing....or you go and read the manga I guess.

Anyway,it's an easy 8 out of 10 for me.I enjoyed it beyond expectation, bringing tears to my eyes and a bitter sting to my heart,an echo from a past long left forgotten.I did not like the end but it was not supposed to be THE end anyway, since the manga runs longer.Watch it,clear your minds and love it!

Blade II (2002)
5/10
Okay.......I guess................
15 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am a fan of dark fantasy movies like Underworld. So,I took up on Blade as well. The first one was OK as well even though the visual effects were not so good but that is understandable considering when it was made.I was hoping for an improvement at the second film.

I didn't really see it.While the plot is very interesting especially in the beginning with the introduction of a new element, after a while the hype is gone.

There are many reasons behind that.First of all, there are a lot of unnecessary bad-ass wannabe moments when many characters try to act tough with no reason at all.Second of all, full of silly clichés.The vamp squad's members names were all typical, tough and mighty, trying so hard to create some kind of badassery but fails since they are so weak.Their cloths and weapons, ridiculous gigantic hammers etc....They are just not that great. They had a fierce appearance but had a weak result. And what about those supposedly explosive punch metal things that Blade had?No one exploded...big fuss for nothing.A vampire squad of the very elites and they had no equipment??And almost none of them could fight? They were dropping dead like flies..

Another thing that ruined it for me are the plot holes. In the first they appear with special outfits that protect them from light, but later on,when Blade suggests they fight the enemy in daylight, every seems confused, surprised and angry because they are saying they have no way to escape light.WHAT ON EARTH?Even in the previous movie, vamps could stand in daylight with mere sunscreen or wore black leather clothing and helmets.Yet in this one,sun light seems to burn even their clothes. No explanation of Damaskinus appearance. Why was he like that? Why did he look like he was sick? Why his blood was blackish?

Also,Whistler acts like he is in his home, not caring much about the movie or what happens.Blade's complete lack of any emotion, may seem cool in the beginning, after a while it gets tiring.Priest was bitten and he started transforming almost immediately and Nisa too.Lighthammer was cool for like a whole day.A plot hole to create an element of surprise or suspense?Big fail....

Nomak transformed anyone who bit him.In the end he was shown bitting numerous humans or vamps(whatever the guards were) but I suppose that doesn't help our story telling so we pretend it never happened, right?

What about Blade? He seems to be really affected by brute force, bullets and electricity but in the final battle he gets smashed upon walls and pillars and he acts like he's been touched by butterfly wings. His chest is getting cracked and he sits up a second later but then,he gets punched and seems to be suffering.WHAT???

Also,he is supposed to have all of a vampire's strengths but none of their weaknesses. So he is as strong and fast as any vampire...Then why any other vampire appears to be so weak when they come in comparison? There are may other plot holes and uncontinuities but I care not to list them all down.I believe all these are more than enough.

In the end,we have a nice villain, creepy and strong.A biological mystery and a lot of shooting and fighting in dark places. On the other hand we have plot holes, bad acting, silly clichés and childish battle choreographies. It gets a 5/10 barely...

This is what I'm talking about!!New and improved!
15 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the first 2 installments I must say I did not have any real expectations from the third one,but I was surprised!

Many of the things that made the previous movies lacking, this one had them gone or improved. For starters there we have better dialogue.Dialogue that actually makes sense, not wannabe badass pointless phrases here and there just to break the silence. Also, the addition of Ryan put some nice humor in the mix,a small cynical element that made everything more interesting and catchy!

Second, the music was far better than in the previous movies, especially in the second half.I admit that we still have some plot holes and uncontinuities but you can't have everything in this life!

We had something new in the scenario. For a change, nobody wanted Blade's blood. In the previous film we had a vampire villain that turned against his race and hierarchy,Blade was drawn into action, but that action served only as a means for the real plan to take effect, which was to capture Blade and drain him. Here,we did not have that. The villain was against Blade and humanity. While he did not turn on his own people,he was different than them, the very first of his kind.He was a character with personality, not that same old trying to be badass, tricky, ruthless, sinister piece of garbage who will do anything and sacrifice anyone in order to succeed,no...That guy had a code of honor.

The battle choreographies were much better. No silliness and no childish maneuvers that seemed totally fake and lame. This action got pumped!!We had a thrilling chase through buildings and rooftops,a nice change from always running in sewers and underground filthy clubs. The villain's group was also better. With the exception of Asher who seemed to be out of place and unnecessary most of the time, the others played a nice role into this. The visual effects were also better!

I am happy that the end of this trilogy offered me this experience.I will have a nice picture of Blade in my mind now!

As I mentioned there were some small plot holes, like in one scene a vamp suffers from a punch but in the next, the same vamp gets his arm broken and gets instantly healed no problem.Another thing I believe could have been better was the ending. Two things: a)The virus thing could have worked out a bit better.I expected something smarter. b)The way the villain died was OK I guess,it could certainly be better. And since the good guys won, they could have showed us how they moved on from there.A change for Blade maybe, not only keeping partners, but starting to show a bit of emotion, like maybe reply to one of Ryan's jokes or something. It could have finished with a better ending seen with the three of them, instead of Blade again being alone hunting. And there was an after the credits scene.Nothing much,as to add anything to the story, but it was fun.

In total,a 7 out of 10!!Way to go!!

Entertaining but historically false and a bit cringy
14 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie with high expectations.I found the original film a true masterpiece and being a fan of history and an admirer of Greece, this felt very wrong.

If you don't know your history and only looking for some good action, you won't be disappointed. There are numerous battles, tons of blood and beautiful battle chorographies.A total brute bath!

The problem is,that in comparison to the first one,it's lacking. Many historical facts were either false, changed or completely absent.Hollywoods presence was very intense.Heroes with perfect hair looking a bit....not manly at all, warriors with eyeliners, red clothes for the Atheneans. All these stuff, for someone who knows what to expect, were very disappointing. And to be honest I am tired of movies and directors disrespecting history in order to sell some tickets. How many faulty Greek movies must we suffer?I mean, the guys have history and mythology enough(and maybe the greatest on this Earth)to produce movies of top level, with many chances of high quality visual effects usage, until the end of time. Why not stick to that and make something brutal yet glorious? Something visually attractive, but mind appealing as well?Their stories need no change and additions.By doing that you only manage to spoil the goods, make unnecessary complications that end up only creating plot holes, lack of continuity and confusion.

Besides that, many elements were unfitting.A very hollywoodish sex scene, many Eva Green and queen Gorgo wanna be epic moments that resulted in a lot of cringing..It was distasteful. And the sheer fact that the whole story enveloped around Gorgo and her pain of loss was a bit idiotic to say the least. We are talking about brutal times, with highly patriarchic societies.Women were respected in ancient Sparta a lot, that is true, but no way in Hades would you ever see a woman being the main face/voice in a war,let alone lead or participate in one.I get it,you have your tickets to sale. But by ruining such a marvelous first installment, with out of time feministic crap in order to appeal more to the female population, you only manage to let down your fans. Not because we are enemies of women or feminism nor because it is our personal preference, but because those choices and ideas are completely irrelevant to the story.Personally,I won't be coming back to see the next rumored film.I hope we will not get to suffer another Greek based movie massacre like Troy(Brad Pitt),Alexander(Colin Farrel),Hercules(Dwayne Jonhson),Immortals,Rath of the Titans etc.All those Hollywood nonsense diminish the value of ideals and characters behind those stories.Hopefully they will understand it one day.

If I were able to rate it only as an action movie,I would probably give it a 6.5 out of 10.Now,with me being lenient,I am giving it a very generous 5/10.
