Affleck got himself an Oscar for this movie, I however was less enthusiastic about it. The movie did not manage to grasp me. The cast was not the problem, it was the somewhat thin story and the way the movie lacks to make and keep the tension which endoubtedly in reality must have been almost physically tangible. Too much focus on the non-Beirut side of the story, there where I expected the movie to be more about the six and the hostages.
Nice detail was that some shots in the movie are almost identical to the real story, as seen during the credits. With their humor, Goodman and Arkin saved the movie from five stars. Sorry, an Oscar for "Best Motion Picture"? It should not even have been nominated! Affleck is one of my favorite actors, but dissappointa as director. Ben, please, give Clint a call and learn from the master!
