A young man discovers he has an exquisite sense of smell. But he also discovers one cannot preserve scents for eternity. He meets a young woman who'se scent bewitches him. He accidently kills her and loses her scent forever.
So he starts working for a perfume maker, who teaches him to preserve all kinds of essences based on flowers, spices, etc. He however is looking for a way to preserve the scent of young women, to make the beste perfume ever.
He get's caught but when about to be executed, he reveals the perfume he created to the crowd. Everyone loves it and they adore him. The execution becomes an orgy and he can simply walk away. But he misses the scent of the first woman so much that he commits suicide by pouring the perfume on himself, making him so irresistable, the townspeople literally love him to death.
Brilliant movie based on a brilliant book of Patrick Süskind. Acting is great, atmosphere is catching.
