After reading Orwell's 1984, buying one of the first cellphones with a camera and seeing CCTV pop out virtually everywhere since the late 90's, I for myself reformulated "Big Brother is watching you" to ".....and everyone knows".
Nowadays, almost everything we do can and probably will end up on the Internet. This makes our dictator -as in Orwell's 1984- an even more powerful single entity: you trying to be "normal" within the context of your peers.
Being a huge fan of my philosophy based on my own Turn-It-Around-Principle this means: Choose your peers with care!!
People seem to have a need to watch other people's lifes, I guess because their own life isn't interesting enough? Should you realy create your own identity based on well marketed brand policies and money based display of prosperity like everyone else does?
My credo: "Be yourself, there are already a lot of others."
So assuming that normal people achieve normal things, what does one need to be to achieve the extraordinary?
I sincerely hope writer Andrew Niccol doesn't turn out to be a visionairy. It seems to me it's not quite ethical to play with ones emotions as depicted in this movie. However, money evens out ethics and that is a fact the writer is absolutely spot on.
Must have been at least four times I enjoyed this movie. There is a lot of humor in the details and Carrey is very well casted for this role. The plot is more than ok, but as always the devil is in the details. P.e. An approximately 4 miles wide and half a mile high dome would collapse under it's own weight and/or would be blown away on a windy day. Ad why the enormous sea?
But the movie makes you think everytime....
